Hey everyone. I just noticed this very old creation I made in may 2018 is somehow in the spotlight. This was made for a past version of the vanilla game some 6 years ago. I just wanted to let you know what you are looking at. However it may still work fine as the tech specs for bases are easier than moving creations. Thanks everyone!

Have a fuel tank or 2 to resist the drain bug with the solar power tanks that likes to insta drain if not in the playfield long periods.

Special reminder, take star distance into consideration. Deploy this in a orbit that has a multiple resource planet or 2 in the star system for basic stuffs & ores. More power will be generated the closer this is built nearer the star.

Thank you all! @JIAHCEJIOT, I don't believe there is anyway to place this on a planet in game without it collapsing if any changes are made to it. I took some screen shots showing it floating on a planet only for better lighting. But this is meant to be space only and doesn't have even close to the structural integrity to be placed on the ground unless in creative mode. @ecjay, not a bad idea at all. The L2 bays I believe could be converted with to support Helios modules but would take a bit of time and block reworking as the Helios modules are much larger. And thanks again all!

When installing a teleport, the entire structure collapses completely. I can’t put the base just in the air, it is necessary that at least one point rests on the planet.

Thanks for another gorgeous build. One minor question; did you ever come up with a place to shoehorn in a pentaxid tank? I like that you found room for the Shield Generator, but I haven't been able to find a place for the tank. I did manage to find room for a couple of Solar Capacitors in the elevator shaft just below the pool, boosting the battery storage. Maybe I'll have to sacrifice one of those for the pentaxid. Thanks again for all your hard work.

This is the perfect space station for me. I really enjoy the set up of the furnace and constructors, they're perfect for when we return with salvage and mining.

Thank you jbrown, and Xcetaura! @jbrowm, Sorry about my slow response. I am also confused on knowing what places are the best to place a space station to get max solar power. I believe it has to do with distance from the Sun, but I am not sure how you judge that distance or the math behind it. So I guess I am in the same boat. I mean of course you would want to place this to get max solar power, but I am unsure how to know where that is. @Xcetaura, lol. Yeah, the name can appear similar. The name is the greek god of forging which fit the naming scheme I been using for many human faction creations. It was fitting but can have that side effect. lol Thanks again all!

Did some tests on solar output in orbit. There IS some variable for this, but I cannot find it in any configuration file for planet orbit. It does not appear linked to how far the orbit is from the start specifically, but that could be a factor.

In orbit of one planet, I get just 130pu from the station. In orbit of another roughly the same distance from the star, I get about 2.5kpu, and orbit of another closer to the star, I get 4.5kpu. A LOT. Thing is, on the planet surface, all planets give about the same amount of solar at peak, depending on what your latitude is. That, to me, is a bug. If orbit is contingent on distance from sun, so too should the planet's surface be. And, the 130pu... there must be another variable I cannot find, since that's very low, and not consistent in similar orbits.

Forget I said it could be wider ;-). I don't know what I was thinking. Lol. Oh, confirmed solar works fine on that planet. Panels looking straight up on a clear day give me about 1.2kpu. But in space, looking right at the sun, the station only gives 130pu. I'm going to test it with another station out entirely past the rings. Maybe there is some odd feature? And also at another planet. Could be something about the scenario I am playing.

No worries about the lack of dock/noise. It lands perfect and really works well. There's room to make them a tad wider in back, too. A little longer and a little wider could work. Heck, might even be able to make one a small SV could dock with. Maybe dock on back, not on top?

I was thinking of trying to cut the front off in creative and see about expanding it as an experiment. Yeah, heat and radiation from the warp core are an issue. It's already a "hot" CV ;-). Thing is... an SV could do this, too, I think. The purpose of a CV, I should think, would be the longer warp capability, more than anything else. Or is there a cargo issue with total overall cargo? Oh... and the block size wouldn't line up, would it?

Thanks Jbrown! That is good idea with warp on the support CV for the station. As in the other question, no, CV's don't technically dock on bases so it makes no dock sound and the base will not show it as docked. Nothing I can do about that one. As in the CV, it could be bigger, at least longer than it is and some re-configuring could allow it enough space for a warp core. I will think about sometime. I do think I would mostly have to rebuilt it again thou. The problem with such a small CV and warp cores is the heat/rad issue from it. That could be problematic. Thanks again!

Oh, one more odd thing... the CV won't "dock." Is that normal? It parks fine, and the whole system/airlock works perfect. Just, it never says "docked." Maybe I'm spaced out and CVs never say that? I haven't paid attention.

As for sun... yeah, I don't know what's up. The planet has rings. I tried setting it up near the ring plane, and got that isssue. So, reloaded previous save and tried again well above ring planet, and out near the outskirts. Same solar deadness. Plenty of light falls on the station, and the panels all show full blue and yellow bars, but I get only 130pu max (second location, maybe tad better aligned?). Solar on the planet works normally. And it's the same distance as my starter planet from the sun, which got max solar on the surface (didn't try space). Will make a small test station for solar to get to the bottom of this. It's really odd, and wrecks the functionality of any station at that planet, for now. Running it on fuel is fine to augment, but the nice thing about stations is they can operate on solar forever, when you're not there. No more dead crops.

Plenty or places for a pex tank, so that's not really a huge issue. Just kinda funny. Easy oversight with a base/space station, since it's only the single use. Vessels use it for warp, too, of course. Speaking of that... so... the cargo CV that goes with this, that docks... dude, that's so awesome, BUT... well, the whole point of the space station was that I had a planet as a nexus (most starter planets are) where there were several other planets that had all the resources I needed 1 jump away from that. After enough POI raiding for cores, up go the auto miners, and a base or spaceport with forges at that nexus makes a lot of sense. But, the CV doesn't have warp. Wondering if a slightly larger one with the same nose would work?

Thanks jbrown. I guess it depends how far you are away from the star. Actually I am not sure exactly how it works now. If the solar panels have direct sunlight, I would think it should be able to gain max power. I would need to test this myself. As in the tank, yeah, I do need to look at that. I patched it after the fact with a shield but I have appeared to forgot to add a pentaxid tank. I will check into that. Thanks again!

Love this, as with all your creations. A couple of things I noticed. You forgot a pentaxid tank. I stuck one next to the deconstructers. Kept trying to figure out how to get into the area you put the shield, but I can't find an entrance to it. Also, you are using steep ramp blocks in the main hangar bay. Thing is, with the artificial gravity, I can't walk up them. Have to jetpack to get up the one block ramp. HOPEFULLY this silliness gets fixed, soon. Under gravity generators, often you can't get up stairs, ramps, etc. Or, if you can, it's super slow. It's an easy code override, to simply turn off incline rules when you are on a ramp/stairs. I suppose it COULD be exploited, but I've never run into a case in game where it was a design element that you couldn't climb stairs...

Oh, I aligned this perfect to the sun but am getting lousy solar... 130PU. Not the 2.57Kpu I get from your other station. Is it just the planetary system I'm in? Sun looks blue there...

I love the spaceports you make man. The only thing I wish you did was make airlocks on the ship's as well. I think it'd be cool to dock your ships to the spaceports.

I will give it a go in creative...to be fair...I do use auto-break, which means you do have to spend forever moving the Ship...plus unless/until you get smaller RCS Gear, I doubt most people will bother with the more realistic Control Set-up...but yes...anyways..I will post whatever I make it Screen-shots and Link it in comments, if that's alright....no idea on time-scale and if anyone aelse cares about this but for me, I would...at the very least, like to give it a go.

Anyways, I apologise for the long and multiple comments but I needed to cover all Bases...which i feel I have done..

I am/was spit-balling more than anything...I totally get it is unlikely...all I feel is that, most of the time people waste their CV's by having a massive Ship they can't land on Station Pads, so have to use 1/3 of their Ship for a Hangar, whilst...yes of-course you can use the Shuttle to Transport people & goods to and from Planets easier than landing the CV/SV on the Planet ...wasting tons of fuel and time. etc.
I just feel, having some kind of walkway or whatever to & from the side of a Ship...even if it is not Air-tight...would make this easier and mean you have focus the CV on Fighting or whatever you want to do....but again..I am not like most people...I want my Ship full of stuff..eg Crew Quarters, Spares, nott smaller Craft...but hey whatever works for people I guess...

Anyways...once again, again...sorry for the long reply.

Thanks Skullkrusher1990. With this station I did something similar with the Transit-L2 ship that docks to the station. There is no way really to extend anything to a door short or a ramp. But then the docking vessel would need to be near perfectly lined up as well. Pretty tricky. I have seen some use pegs for that which works but can be a little rough lining up to the pegs. I have a general question...not about this Building but about Stations in general...

Does anyone know if it is possible to build Station with Gangways, like an Airport, so you come walk from a Station to a CV or larger SV from a side hatch...that way, if you me, you build without using the big hatch as usually found on the back of above Craft...

Just curious.

I am pretty sure it would not be Air-tight but I feel like would make bigger Craft more usable and practical in the finished Game.

Hi, Jrandall, I love your work basically everything!
But this port is massive! it's very awesome, just one issue, I can’t have it on best servers online as they restrict size to class 7, so I have compacted the structure to class 7, converted crew quarters to farms, so now there are 4 farms, added more furnaces, more constructors, and some other changes to get to class 7, if you like to see it, and post it as Class 7 port in your work shop, I will be honored. Let me know :)

Master Randall, Long time no comment :D .. I been away almost a year, Glad to see your still doing it up. I believe your the most love designer for Empyrion now. I see they adopted many of your designs in the Game. Would be scary to see a P2 Carrier and Hephaestus has a enemy POI :steamfacepalm: . Hope I didnt give them any Ideas...:steammocking:

Thanks praetorian! I thought about that a bit after I had the structure built. I guess I would be cool if it did have a control room and the location that would work right for that is the top lounge area. But I guess I decided not to as I would want the controls closer to where the player is rather than traveling up the elevator to the top area. I will think about that more when I look into building a new space station someday. Thanks again!

It is indeed one of the best space stations I´ve ever seen. I love the circuits and logic with the energy saving mode, the functionallity and when the hangar doors open and close, the warning light :) etc, but it bothers me really, that such an encridble station doesn´t have had no "command/operator/communication deck" whatever...

ok jrandall we get you want the largest and prettiest station in the challenge but it wont matter when it gets blown out of the sky you need more turrets LOL now are you done with your June challenge build yet
