Also download the Hex editing plugin here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/npp-plugins/files/Hex%20Editor/Hex%20Editor%20Plugin%20v0.9.5/HexEditor_0_9_5_UNI_dll.zip/download

If you hex edited the gun;
Open left 4 dead 2 authoring tools, (install in steam library, tools tab) and press model viewer. After you opened it, load model.navigate to the place where you put your hexed gun, and open it. It should be fine.
uh.. maybe I should explain it like how I did it:
• v_desert_eagle.mdl -> v_desert_eaglR.mdl (In hex editor, also changed the name, but also changed texture folder to deserteagleR since the materials and texture folder is deserteagle folder)
• place in models folder in left 4 dead 2..
• Copy the texture/materials folder from GCFscape, place it into your left 4 dead 2 folder in the same spot as it was in GCFscape, but we changed the target folder from 'deserteagle' to 'deserteaglR' so also change the name
DON'T FORGET: Go inside the copyd texture folder, open VMT's and change the TEXTURE PATH (should also be changing deserteagle into deserteaglR)
I think that should do it..
First off, you need a program to open steam game files (extension .gcf for game config file) found here: (note: if you install it make sure you check the box where it says it should associate with .vpk files since L4D2 uses vpk files)
http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=26
Then here you get VTFEdit, Valve texture file editor, basically turn an image into .vtf file which is used by source games:
http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?c=178#p178
Open left 4 dead 2's game config file, which is located in steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead 2/left4dead2/pak01_dir.vpk (open pak01_dir.vpk with gcfscape) and inside gcfscape, open materials > models > v_models > weapons > deserteagle
if you edit the image, drag it onto VTFEdit or import it in VTFEdit and save it as deserteagle which will then be saved as deserteagle.vtf
This very long part will be shown in this tutorial: (creating an addon)
https://sites.google.com/site/mrfunrealmods/left-4-dead-2/creating-an-addon
That should be it. For easy use, I also got a decompiler and I also copy and hexed the weapons so I can see them in the model viewer with custom skins (model viewer is in Left 4 dead 2 authoring tools, located in the steam library tools tab).
Nice skins by the way
Please... great appreciation if you do
It's uploaded on my profile , the skinpack is named "Bloodhound" , if you can't find it i can send you link
