I have encountered a really unusual bug here. When starting a new game, the game crashes during the newscaster's bit just before Gatecrasher. Also, loading saved games will crash the game as well. I've worked the problem a bit and the only mod consistently present when the crash happens is this one.

I cant say yes or no. To be honest, this is a base game bug and has popped up a few times even with base game psi enemies in play with the Chosen Warlock. The main cause of the is bug is from the CHOSEN WARLOCK in play while other Psi units are in play. Something within HIS code doesnt interact well with other Psi units. It did trigger A LOT when the Adv Warlock mod was active but i can not say 100% that it was that mod and only that mod that in part may have cause the issue.

The WotC ADVENT Warlock Mod has received a major update. The empty base game perks such as 'Psi_Cloud_the_Mind' should no longer cause a crash event when the Chosen Warlock is present and active when an ADVENT Warlock uses an ability that requires a Perk. At least, I have not been able to reproduce the crash using a save file where I managed to isolate the issue. :steamhappy:

Because this isnt an ability mod. This mod is a fix mod for a WOTC BUG with the Warlock that only triggers when he is in play and other Psi based enemies or XCOM units are in play. This mod was created to fix the issue with the Warlock triggering the Park Psi Cloud The Mind (which in the game files is a empty perk/ability). This mod does stop that from triggering BUT as i pointed out below, whatever the BUG is that only the Warlock seems to trigger, if this mod is active, it fixes but then the BUG picks another random ability that may or may not be active and spawns the popup that that perk could not be found. Nothing I can do about that, sorry.

@MrShadowCX Now I'm not a modder, and what you've done is impressive. But I do have one question. When it comes to custom abilities and stuff, take the ABA mod, or any class mod. When they use an ability that is vastly different from the ones we see in vanilia, it works perfectly fine.

What I'm asking is, "what is the issue?" Why do all of these other unique abilities from these other mods work and this one doesn't? Because this is (out of the other 200 or so mods i have) the ONLY mod that i've seen that has this issue.

It does work BUT whatever bug there is with the Warlock and psi units... causes this bug to (sometimes) find another perk to not load and repeats this bug with another perk.

So, I've been reading the comments to this mod and is there confirmation that it actually works? I don't want to start a play-through and have to redo it because of the Warlock (again)

Yikes... super late to this conversation. :steamsad: I've seen this bug maybe 3 times in all my time playing XCom2. It was always when the Chosen Warlock was in play. I Googled "Perk_Psi_Cloud_the_Mind error", read through a hundred "No one knows" threads, and finally landed here!

If the Perk Caching code is the suspect, it's not the Flame Viper. She doesn't cache her one-and-only perk that way. It's fired from a hook in the 'Seething' animation sequence. The Advent Warlock, however, does use the old code in 2 of his abilities. I'll recompile and update that mod.

I took out the cellatid, flame viper, and advent warlock. I didn't get any crash. I think most likely it was the advent warlock, I have had this the least and something "psi" related crashed the game before. That was one was related to the bayonets acting like psi attacks and a bladestorm around them. I have enough various enemies already anyways.

the crash seems to happen a lot when either of those 2 mods are subbed to and happens a lot when a chosen is in play while those mods are active.

I got a crash from the psi cloud, so I got this fix. Now I am getting crashes from psi null lance. Warlock was around but it was the aliens turn, not the Chosen's turn.

There is a bug with the Advent Warlock and Flame Viper on how they call their perks. In fact this mod isn’t even really needed anymore. If you play the game without the Advent Warlock or Flame Viper you should not have this issue. Because of how the perks are called in those 2 mods, any time one of these mods is active and one of the chosen are in play, this bug can happen.

The game crashed with Perk_Psi_Null_Lance in log. @Scroller say about that, but I didn't install Perk Psi Cloud The Mind Bug Fix. On the battlefield was Assassin and Advent Warlock.

I'll try it out, see if it fixes the issue. My crash log doesn't show me exactly what caused the crash (Not even the .dmp file when i finally got it open) so it's as good a bet as any.

Not a lot of them, no. I use XCOM Psi Overhaul, but that's it. Although the issue seemed to start after i installed that mod, i might just not have encountered the Warlock until after it was installed...

Since the last update, I have had missions with both celatids and warlocks with the Chosen and had no similar crashes.

if that is the case, than there are 3 mods im aware of that used that way of calling Perks. The Celatid mod which i changed/ The Adv Warlock mod and the Flame Viper. And if the case, you may not need this mod anymore but im not sure just yet if there is anything else that might trigger that crash.

Alright, after redownloading and installing the Celatid mod, I had a mission with Celatids in it and the Chosen Warlock showed up, but there were no problems. It seems like you've solved whatever problem existed. Well done and thank you!

I was unclear. I wasn't complaining about the "IMG" thing, I knew that was my doing. I was just saying the problem with the Perk_Psi_Inspire crashing may have been caused by the Chosen showing in a mission with Celatids already on the map. Sorry for the poor communication. Will redownload the Celatid mod and see how things go.

ok so you tool out the Adv Warlock and the crashing stopped? Ok well if and when you get a chance or want to try the Celatid mod again, please let me know if the crashing continues with the change I made in that mod. The one thing Celatid and Adv Warlock had in common was how their ability perks were loaded. So that might have been the issue. If so, its been changed in Celatid but i dont think it will get changed in Adv Warlock or any other mods by that mod's Author. As he seems to have giving up on modding.

@MrShadowCX : I have an update on my previous post. I tried several more times only for the same thing to happen. Until I took out the Advent warlock. I have not had a chance to try your new update as of yet, as I have just finished my latest session - well it was actually a crash caused by a muton but that is not likely due to either of your alien mods.

the reason you had those images is because you can not disable mods like that in the middle of a game. And if you disable enemy mods while those enemies were part of a mission that you saved in the middle of that mission, those enemies are locked to that mission save. So if you get rid of the mod, youre breaking your game and that save.

I should mention that after disabling the Celatid mod and being able to continue that mission, there was a pod of "IMG"s that were probably meant to be Celatids. Considering what Scroller said, it might be possible this is an error that only occurs when the Chosen show up on a mission that Celatid are in. Don't know if that might be useful info.

you know... im going to try something in the Celatid mod. Both the Celatid mod and the Adv Warlock have their perks set up differently than other mods. Now i think of it, both mods, the same guys set the perks up. SO... maybe just maybe it is the Celatid mod and even the Adv Warlock mod because of how their perks are set up. Illl try switching the perk set up in the celatid mod and see if that helps.

Since installing this one, I have had a crash on Perk_Psi_Null_Lance. There was a dead celatid (no others seen at that point)0 and an Advent warlock was still alive. At the end of the turn, the Chosen Assassin turned up, said her piece and then vanished. She then breaks through a window then the crash happens. Hopefully this will be of some help.

After doing a dash of testing, the error doesn't occur when I disable the Celatid mod. Not saying it's to blame, but it doesn't seem to happen without it.

@MrShadowCX I would like to throw my hat in with the "Perk_Psi_Inspire" crash. The difference for me is that it occurred the very first time the Chosen Hunter showed up, so it can't be just the Warlock. I'm no modder, but maybe it has something to do with how the Chosen get extra actions each turn? Just a random guess.

@MrShadowCX Nah, no PSI soldiers yet. Haven't even built the PSI Lab. Also yes, the Chosen Warlock. Has happened more than once in multiple missions.

Just read the new update notes - I'm using Rising Tides as well as Psi Overhaul. I haven't had any Cloud the Mind related issues in a very, very long time, but I added this to my game because I do recall seeing it in the past, and I figured I'd add this in if for no other reason than for testing. If I happen to run into any issues I'll leave a comment and poke through my log files.

I have never had any of these crashes with celatids active tho. I’ve had the crash a few times but never with celatids. Also watched full play through of streamers and they have also never had this crash. So I’m positive it’s something in a psi based mod you’re using that I’m not. As these are psi perks. Next time (if you have another crash) post a picture for me please. Or send me your crash dump logs
