No problem man, its not too big of a deal anyway, just aesthetics. It'd be cool if you get around to it at some point, but if not its alright. Good luck with your studies.
Hi, I noticed this iteration of the mod isn't compatible with the TBARW EXTRA: User Interface Mod. I remember the previous iterations were, and seeing as you've made a version of this one compatible with the Better U.I. Mod, I was wondering if you could do the same for the other Mod.
Just personally think the banners look the best in the TBARW EXTRA: User Interface Mod.

Although Portugal switched flags 11 times in the Eu4's timeframe, some variation of the white flag with the crest in the middle was used on 95% of the timeline, unlike the Vanilla flag which was only used in the first ~30 years.
A) if you opened the mod you would see that I did in fact change it to the Romanov flag because the tricolor wasn't adopted officially until the 1705.
B) i am actually thinking of changing it back because I don't necessarily view it as being particularly representative of Russia;
"Peter the Great's tricolour was the merchant flag (civil ensign) of Russia. As the oldest civil flag to represent Russia, it was later adopted as the national flag representing the country rather than the Tsar. However, the flags used by the Russian Army were regimental flags with the Double-Headed Eagle, the official Imperial symbol, in the centre. The Imperial Standard was the black Double-Headed Eagle displayed on a golden banner, represented the Tsar, the absolute ruler of the Russian Empire. It was used since 1697, but officially adopted in 1705.[5]"
It evolved over time from the crusades - I made the English flag the St. George's Cross because of its prominence as a symbol representing England both during the times and thereafter - whereas dynastic symbols changed over time https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_George%27s_Cross
And for the crescent and star:
The crescent and star had long since been a symbol associated with the areas of Anatolia, Thrace, etc. and can be found specifically on Byzantine coins [en.wikipedia.org]. Wikipedia states that "after the fall of Constantinople in 1453 Turkic people added the crescent moon and star symbol to their flag." I don't know if the Turks used the crescent and star specifically because of it's association with the Byzantine Empire and Constantinople, but we know it does eventually become a symbol of the Ottoman Empire. Given that Mehmet II considered himself the new Roman Emperor, it's not impossible that the crescent and star was gradually adopted because of its association with the region and Constantinople.
Nice to see this mod on the front page of the workshop. Seeing as there is some debate about a flag for the Ottoman Empire I figured I'd give my 2 cents.
(1/2)
While the Ottoman Empire didn't have traditional flags for a while, I think a simple green or red field with a white crescent and an 8 pointed star would suffice. Wikipedia states that the Turks supposedly used a green flag until it was officially made red by law in 1793, when this flag [en.wikipedia.org] was adopted. So green seems to have been used longer, but the red version is also within the game's timeline (and it looks cooler imo), so I suppose either is fine.
@Skarlow unfortunately I won't be doing that as it's not historically accurate
@terran president :/
I made a Swedish flag awhile back that you are more than welcome to use for your mod, if you like. If you would like to, you can message me or add me, and I can send it over to you.
Russia's flag was a naval and trade standard before it was the national flag, you're right about that. It was first known in 1668 but then in 1696, Peter the Great made it the national flag.
With the case of Spain, you could make an argument for using a combined version of the Burgundy Cross flag with the coat of arms superimposed per centre, as was often done in Spain, especially from the reign of the Bourbons onward.
Sweden's royal standard is beautiful. It is known that the Swedish flew the Nordic cross the same as Denmark, alongside their royal flag, they're both good options and it's a good look and good choice to make the royal flag available - I like it a lot too!
You have a good point with Sweden, I just love that damn flag so much - the coa that is - but it may be more accurate to switch it to the nordic cross, however, I do adore that coa.
"The Spanish monarchs continued to use it in their own arms after the Burgundian house was part of the Spanish Crown, and even after due to the extinction of the House of Burgundy. From 1506 to 1701 it was used by Spain as a naval ensign, and up to 1843 as the land battle flag, and still appears on r egimental colours, badges, shoulder patches and company guidons."
And asides from the fact that the Burgundian inheritance hardly goes to Spain in game, the coat of arms was used throughout Spanish history on flags and such as well. However, I may decide to opt back to the Burgundian cross in the future as it has, without a doubt, played a significant role in Spain - we will see.

Thank you so much for your support and recommendations, this stuff is all more stuff to look into as well as I constantly think of what to change and tinker with. Especially with Sweden, as, I am now so conflicted as to whether or not I keep the coa I love or switch it to the cross. If you find anything else, feel free to comment below and I will make note of it.
You've got some nations (e.g. Sweden) using their royal standards, when generally they would've flown a combination of their national flag as well as their king's flag - nice touch adding the Vasa coat of arms onto the Swedish crown and lion, though. Nice addition. Same goes for Spain, the coat of arms flag isn't wrong, but it was flown alongside the Burgundy Cross flag, especially in the colonies.
Russia's flag was not used until the 18th century as a national standard. Before then, it would've been the Rurikovich/Romanov standard as the flag. Turkey's flag is also difficult as there is no record of a Turkish national flag existing before the last decade of the 18th century.
Overall this is a very strong effort with a great degree of accuracy and definitely a recommended download. My advice would just be to cross-check some sources and make sure your vexillological records are sound. Great work either way!
