If it's this ship, then it's not surprising, since there's few materials being used. It's also a pretty limited ship compared to the Yamato.
Now you might be thinking: how does this help? Well, if the ships need more crew members, there will be less ships sailing at a time. Less moving ships=less the game has to do=less lag
