Yes, the way it works is that each cage contains a random Workshop skin for your character. Opening the cage, subscribes to the item in the workshop, unlocking the skin at your wardrobe. Killing the skin you just freed, unsubscribes.

You can also manually subscribe to and unsubscribe from as many skins as you like.
