Thanks a lot. I'm having a very long game break, but do plan to eventually return to map making once that aspect is sorted out for Skylines 2. I do have a number of part completed maps too. Hong Kong Airport was my last map attempt.

I like the fact that Airports are hubs. In many ways they are their own economy and urban ecosystems. They attract large highways, tech parks, hotels, distribution buildings, park and ride, rail and often monorail. I like the fact that they are complicated focal points, just as a downtown also is. They draw in a diverse range of buildings.
I'm not exactly sure why, but i tend to be more interested in low density green suburban areas that also have extensive highways, tech parks and industrial areas, than downtowns. I'm also really interested in Commercial corridors such as Telecom Corridor in Dallas and the Technology and Research Corridor in Chicago. In fact i might make a map of that area in Chicago along Interstate 88. I still love downtowns but the problem with Skylines is the Object limits. It means that if you build a large downtown, there's not that much space left over for sprawling suburbs, which is why often i just focus on non downtowns.

Thanks for the update! Out of curiosity, what is it about maps based around airports that catches your interest so much?

Hi Mac. I am currently working on a Chicago O'Hare Airport map, but i am also over 50% complete on Minneapolis and Washington D.C. The D.C map is especially complicated as it takes in The Pentagon, Arlington Cemetery, all the crazy interchanges and it covers the south towards Alexandria, which also has big interchanges.
I'm so addicted to O'Hare, that i think i will complete this map, before returning to the others. Even this map is pretty complicated, but at least there It's more simple than D.C

@j_nobbs any updates on your next projects?

Thanks Perry. I did use Terrain Party and it worked for me. However right now it is not working. I'm trying to get a heightmap of Chicago O'hare. Thankfully i have a lot of heightmaps saved and i can choose other projects. This issue with Terrain Party is very frustrating. There is also no way to contact the person who created it. I think Skylines should have their own heighmap generator. There are more than enough players to warrant it.

Lived on the Peninsula for a stretch, so this is really cool. One question, though, since I'm wanting to export another part of San Mateo county: How did you get the heightmap data without terrain.party?

Thanks a lot. The Bay area in general, has so many interesting features, for city projects.

Sweet. I live in South San Francisco and this is awesome

Thanks :)

The map should run without any requirements, but I'll add Network 2, just to make sure. The theme i used here is Cedar Valley. I think the trees are just standard vanilla game versions, but i will check.

Great :) I always like to build a basic road structure. Sometimes i do have to simplify it a bit. In the case of this map, i simplified the complicated array of roads which serve the airport. It was just too much of a job. I did, however, spend a lot of time smoothing the coasts, making the sea more shallow and the pacific coast beaches. Also a lot of time placing the 500K trees. I'm now continuing my previously halted road map of Minneapolis. It will be a map rather than a saved game, although i did wonder about that?

Been using your Charlotte, North Carolina buildsave lately. I seriously enjoy the scaling and realism. I figured I should say that your maps remind me of the stater towns from Sim City 3000 era- if anyone remember what I am talking about. They do Cities players like me a good service but starting us with a road layout if don't have the interest to make one for our save's design. Thank you for that.
