In general, I feel there is too much going on in these three effects: The "black hole" swirl around the head + the electricity/lightning + the rising particles. I feel the lightining is the part that doesn't really fit, just my two cents.
I agree with Barracuda, that the red version's particles feel to lack something compared to the other two. Is there perhaps a tiny stylized flame sprite in the game that could the used? As a sort of will-o-wisp? It wouldnt even have to be animated.
