that being said perhaps making the rails out of iron would have worked ? (real early railways used iron for plate-ways early on and then rails made out of iron exclusively the issue IRL if memory serves is that they were only strong enough for horse and cart or Very very light locomotives and stock then you get into more modern rails)

@Morpheus, you will not see bronze rails in real life simply because the iron is much more abundant than copper and tin and the steel simply much cheaper to make (with copper requiring in particular electrolysis). You will find however for example high durability bearings made of some bronze alloys.

Though I do admit, it does look good.

Well if the metallurgist you spoke to took into consideration the surface contact area and tensile strength, then I stand corrected. But I have yet to see a rail line made of bronze. Anyways it's just a game, I never expected anything in a game to be 100% precise.

@Morpheus,
It may come at a surprise to you but there is a really wide variety of bronze alloys with varying properties. I actually checked with metallurgists before constructing this mod ...

Immersive? Bronze has a tensile strength of 79,800 psi and a typical 4 axle steam engine can weigh anywhere from 299,000 lbs to 435,000 lbs. Say there are 12 points of contact, 6 per rail, between the steam engine and the rails. Divide the weight of the engine in 2, each rail supporting half the engine's weight, anywhere from 149,500 lbs to 219,500 lbs. Each point of contact on the rail is about 2 mm square each and there's 645.16 mm square in a square inch. Even if you had 12 points of contact per rail it wouldn't be enough to prevent bending of Bronze rails. This is why rail lines were never made of bronze.
The more you know. :steamhappy:

P.S. Yeah I'm trolling. It's just a game.
