Colonizable Jovians

This mod is a must have if you want to play as Jovian evolved species on Stellaris and this should have been in he Vanilla version (with a modest number of species to go with it)

Just tested in 4.0 and my game crashed. Got to play a game with it last year though! Was nice, felt like colonizable jovians were a bit high as a portion of available worlds, but maybe having my habitable worlds set at 125% then warped my perception if it meant 1.25x as many jovians too. (I've since turned it down, as it feels like habitable worlds are a bit easier to get in 3.1X than they used to be.)

is that only I have Jovian Civilization origin to colonize gas giant planet?
Ciaphas Cain 15 Feb, 2024 @ 10:54am
@PLMMJ - did you try this mod with Giga Engineering?
mzilli  [author] 3 Jun, 2023 @ 9:36am
@PLMMJ Not sure, sorry.
PLMMJ 2 Jun, 2023 @ 10:19pm
Is this compatible with Gigastructural Engineering and More's habitable gas giants? That mod is a mainstay for me and I want to use it but I also want to try this mod.
mzilli  [author] 3 Apr, 2023 @ 3:41pm
@Pospesel I'm still developing and maintaining my other mods, don't worry! It's just this one I've lost interest in. :) But thanks for your kind words!
Pospesel 3 Apr, 2023 @ 9:16am
@mzilli Thanks for the reply. I think your work on Distant Origin and this mod is really incredible so I'm sad to see you go but at least you've left behind plenty of mods for me to try, I hope I can get to them before they get updated out. Take care and be well!
mzilli  [author] 2 Apr, 2023 @ 9:50am
@Pospesel I don't plan to develop this mod further, to be honest; if someone else wants to take ownership and expand it to their own whims, they are welcome to as long as they let me know first. As for Distant Origin, there is some mod compatibility built in but as I'm not super familiar with Gigastructural Engineering I'm hesitant to make promises in that regard. I'll look into it.
Pospesel 1 Apr, 2023 @ 7:59pm
Do you think you might ever create a patch for Gigastructural Engineering users so that the gas giants use the gigastructure districts and city background portraits for cohesion? Or do you think you might make a patch for your Distant Origins mod to be able to use the origins that you choose in Gigastructural Engineering? Either way thanks for the great mod!

Thanks for the very quick fix. I restart all the time anyway.
mzilli  [author] 1 Jan, 2022 @ 6:45pm
@Nathaniel Herapen the Third Fixed now, thanks for reporting! Unfortunately, you'll have to start a new save for it to work, sorry about that.
Nathaniel Herapen the Third 1 Jan, 2022 @ 3:36pm
It seems that the origin doesn't work for me properly. in 3.2 Setting the species traits as Distant Origin (Sol) doesn't work as they don't recognise Earth as their homeworld.
mzilli  [author] 12 Dec, 2021 @ 7:57am
@V3N0M Any other mods installed? That's definitely not working as intended.
V3N0M 11 Dec, 2021 @ 11:32pm
found a gas giant inhabited by primitives. no structures and 10 unemployed pops.
greensniperhat 7 Dec, 2021 @ 5:36am
hmm, I delved into the code and saw you already have such an event - but when combined with Guilli's Planetary Modifiers, they tend to get new deposits plopped on them once the Guilli event kicks after a couple of days. My suggestion is to either shift the deposit replacement event a week or so after game start, or make another 'clearing' event at about a week in.
greensniperhat 6 Dec, 2021 @ 3:37am
Any idea how to prevent non-Jovian deposits from spawning on Jovians? It's kinda jarring to see things like luminescent caves on your gas giants. Perhaps an event a day after game start?
AsterParadox 9 Aug, 2021 @ 10:53pm
What about a species that was born on the planet, that could warrant its own interesting restrictions and benefits too.
mzilli  [author] 9 Aug, 2021 @ 10:42am
@GooSquirrel Because it's a little hard to rationalize a terrestrial species being better-suited to living on a gas giant than on solid land. :P The lore at present is that the species inherited the floating cities on their "homeworld" from their more-advanced ancestors and haven't yet reverse-engineered the technology for themselves. I will likely give them a shortcut to that tech in the near future.
AsterParadox 6 Aug, 2021 @ 8:51am
Why does the origin keep your original habitability? that and a lack of technology means you can't colonize other jovians even when a civilization that has specialized for doing so logically would have little trouble repeating such things.
labgnome 30 Apr, 2021 @ 5:31am
Hooray!
mzilli  [author] 29 Apr, 2021 @ 12:34pm
@labgnome I ended up updating to 3.0, and in the process I actually managed to fix the bugs that had been plaguing it. So development will continue after all! :D
labgnome 26 Apr, 2021 @ 7:38pm
Two questions (for anyone):
1. Does this work with 3.0+ or is it broken now?
2. Is anyone interested in picking this up, since it isn't going to be updated?
danburite 20 Dec, 2020 @ 2:06am
Thanks, it's showing up now
mzilli  [author] 19 Dec, 2020 @ 3:31pm
@danburite Weird, try unsubbing and resubbing? It doesn't overwrite anything that I'm aware of.
danburite 19 Dec, 2020 @ 2:28pm
I'm not seeing the origin either. Must be incompatible with one of my mods.
mzilli  [author] 19 Dec, 2020 @ 1:05pm
@danburite It's an origin now. Will update the description, sorry about that!
danburite 19 Dec, 2020 @ 3:44am
The Jovian Civilization civic isn't showing up in empire creation for me.
Beast-Storm 27 Mar, 2020 @ 7:42pm
Nope.... this mod didn't cause crash thank goodness

Sorry about that @mzilli
Beast-Storm 27 Mar, 2020 @ 7:21pm
I'm not sure if this mod caused my game to crash but here's the report:

When I clicked on another Civ's flag the game crashed

I'll do another test run just to make sure
mzilli  [author] 26 Mar, 2020 @ 11:28pm
Updated to 2.6! Sorry for the long wait, everyone!
Beast-Storm 23 Mar, 2020 @ 9:53pm
I meant to say "I'm unsure" sorry if I sound rude this way @mzilli
Beast-Storm 21 Mar, 2020 @ 2:10pm
I'm sure if my game crashes is related to your mod but ever time I click on a planet (except for my homeworld) the game crashes
mzilli  [author] 21 Mar, 2020 @ 1:42pm
@Beast-Storm Very soon, just fixing some balance issues. :)
Beast-Storm 21 Mar, 2020 @ 1:12pm
When can this mod be updated?
greensniperhat 13 Oct, 2019 @ 12:38am
Just saw the planet-view error: try not putting the picture in quotes?
mzilli  [author] 3 Oct, 2019 @ 10:10am
@MayhemX8 No offense taken! I made this for personal use and decided to publish it for anyone who wanted to try it. The vast majority of gas giants don't have mining and food districts, I just threw those onto the starting planet because otherwise players would be screwed in early-game. And those are via modifiers, not physical deposits on the planet itself.
Journeyman Prime 2 Oct, 2019 @ 10:25pm
You can already do this lategame with the "Gigastructures and More" mod. They have better planet-view portraits too. Might I suggest asking those mod authors for their colonized gas giant portraits? Also, mining and food districts on floating cities make no sense, or at least are very tacked-on. You could stand to change the district portraits or the districts themselves to something else, like research districts or commercial districts (like Ring Worlds have).

Mechanically, there's nothing wrong with this mod. It's just really simple/primitive compared to the other options on the workshop. No offense intended. :)
