I was just going to say "Hi" to a fellow Crossout Survivor, then I figured we talked once about Goliath-shielded side-built Mech Spiders!

I was playing my Dual Mammoth, you sent me your Scorpion YT link. Nice to find out you're also a fellow Space Engineer. Great build, btw!

Just to correct my last comment, its conveyor or small cargo blocks you must replace the welders with to make it airtight and keep the cryo pods working. You can also mount the welders above or below the missile turrets if you want to keep the repair function though it does spoil the look of the ship slightly.
Also to those struggling with leaving atmosphere its just like the author says, use the atmo engines until you notice the ship start to decelerate then pitch the ship to about 45 degrees so you can use the atmo and rear ion thrusters and slowly raise the nose of the ship to 90 degrees as the atmo engines stop working you should still be at full speed and running entirely on ion drives.

I see some people wanting this ship airtight. To do this simply remove the forward welders near the missile turrets. Replace them with armour blocks and then just add a vent somewhere, I put mine where the contract block was because I didn't need it. Like the OP says though you can retain the welder functionality just by using some oxygen bottles.

just need about 10 interior turrets for fighter/drone clearing and missile defense.

You should be aligned vertically and using your rear thrust by around 7000m if I remember correctly. You can't just spacebar to orbit.
WeebWacker 17 Jan, 2020 @ 4:16pm
i cant seem to get out of atmosphere
carn1vore  [author] 21 Dec, 2019 @ 8:05pm
Ion thrusters are significantly less powerful in atmosphere, but do still function. With that said, that's why testing to find the right balance between thrust and mass is so critical. It paid off in my very first multiplayer fight in this ship. It started on the moon and ended on earth with my opponent (in a very speedy hydrogen/atmo ship) leaving a crater in the side of a hill (:

Helpful, thank you.

As for atmospheric, I see the upthrust, but don't the ion cease to function? It can stay in the air, but can it maneuver on planet?

(2/2) IMO, seeing all the guts laid out helps me decide what else I will need and what I might actually be able to live without. Once I've narrowed the essentials down I like to stick them all together, slap a cockpit on, and find out how many thrusters I need to lift them out of gravity or to get the acceleration I want. With experience you'll be able to accurately estimate how much headroom you'll need to leave for armor, but you can certainly just slap a big block of heavy armor on there as well to help you judge. I hope you found some of this helpful, and good luck!

(1/2) Do you mean hydrogen thrusters? Because it's got four huge atmospheric thrusters. To use your PCU efficiently, remember the large version of many things like reactors and thrusters are often the same price as the small version, and are generally more efficient to boot. Doors are expensive, especially hangar doors, since it's easy to use a lot of them. One strategy I picked up from playing Crossout of all things, is to lay out your components before you start your build. Think of what you want the ship to do, and what it will need.

I was inspired by your design to make a simillarly practical ship which has both atmo and ion thrusters, but it's a bit slow. Any tips for keeping the PCU limit low without sacrificing important things?
carn1vore  [author] 21 Dec, 2019 @ 7:03pm
I'm glad to hear you like it! Yeah, it takes so long to get the resources to build ships in multiplayer, so I tend to get a bit nervous when people start shooting at me. It's nice to be able to press a button and be ready so you can focus all your attention on the fight. It's a pretty easy system to set up. The hardest part was just making the displays.

Very nice setup, my favorite ship from the workshop. I especially like the STATUS system and tried to make a similar system on my new military ship.

I really admire the practicality of this ship. Wish id had some atmo thrusters, but understand why it does not
cubesteak 1 Dec, 2019 @ 7:54pm
Nice! Thanks for sharing your work!

it is a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig faik
carn1vore  [author] 30 Oct, 2019 @ 6:23pm
I don't believe in compromising my designs performance and increasing PCU and mass to address a problem which can be solved with a simple oxygen bottle. All my ships are built for multiplayer, and thus with a real focus on trimming any wasted PCU.

You don't seem to like it, and that's perfectly fine, but your criticisms of maneuverability make me scratch my head. One of the common replies from people I've fought on official servers was actually on the ship's maneuverability. You won't repair much of the ship from the inside, but you shouldn't need to. Nearly every major component is accessible, from the jump drives to the reactor.

Hopefully the next time I build a ship with a self-repair system, two jump drives, a heavily armored CIC, the ability to operate in any environment, and a cost under 8000 PCU, it can get your stamp of approval.

Cheers.

Well the outer design is nice but thats about it. Its definetly not survival ready as it is not pressurized nor really airtight.

A bit small for a frigate espcailly if you consider that you have an airlock room which serveres at the same time as medical bay and locker room and second an bridge room. no access to the entire ship making repairs impossible to commence.

Also response, maneuvarbility is slugish at best while the inertia of the ship because of unbalanced thruster setup is insane. Now ay to turn or breaka ccurate making combat maneuverign impossible to do espaacially in planetary enviroment (and in space survival you just going to sufficate befor you die in combat).
[VED] JOHN FORGE 17 Oct, 2019 @ 5:01am
nice faik

what wolf said
The Bush Wolf 14 Oct, 2019 @ 10:56am
Well I'll say this, 4 pictures is pretty lame. Neat ship but more pictures is a must :/
Banana Elvis 14 Oct, 2019 @ 7:53am
Super sick ship, not really 100% sure if it's good for combat.
Schwarz 13 Oct, 2019 @ 8:06am
Really nice, was waiting for your new ships!

Awesome!

well modern day frigates are only 100-140m long
Lone-Raven-Knight 11 Oct, 2019 @ 9:04pm
looks like a gunship to small to be considered a frigate
BLU MIMI Sentry 11 Oct, 2019 @ 12:28pm
@raybould DLC is technically vanilla as in it does not require mods. The only time a ship would "require" DLC is if it had a industrial cockpit, which would be rather strange to find on big ships like this. Unless the ship is built soley out of armoury or toilet blocks, it shouldn't matter
BLU MIMI Sentry 11 Oct, 2019 @ 12:25pm
@Parszywy Lisi Bobek You need a mod
Parszywy Lisi Bobek 11 Oct, 2019 @ 6:35am
I'm back to the game wfter few years. I don't see edges on its armor. Is there possibility to turn it off, or i need no edges mod still?
Ray 11 Oct, 2019 @ 5:08am
The ship is looking good, but I have 2 points of interest:
Your description says vanilla, but you require a DLC to use, meaning its not exactly vanilla?
and
in your images, I count a max of 6 turrets?
Auren 11 Oct, 2019 @ 3:35am
Love the elegance of this design. Especially the internals. The way the med bay spits you out on the boarding ramp is genius.

Having done some weapon testing, you might want to add a gyro somewhere inside, away from the others, and some secondary power might be good too. Maybe a couple of batteries here and there.

Excellent design. You've given me some inspiration for my own smallish ships.

I love the conning tower look on your ships, they're like submarines in space. Looking forward to playing with this.
