@RoyalFox:
I am looking to insert Gem mining into my game with a custom mod (nothing for upload, too many copyrighted icons^^), and this looks like a perfect base mod to piggyback on.

Would like to exchange a few of your scrap resources with my custom Gem mines, but since I am going for a tribal-ish campaign & mod-setup, I would also like to keep to a simplistic approach, and mining that scrap seems a good way to exploit "high-tech" in a simplistic manner fitting for my little tribe of cannibals.

So before I go running around the place without aim, where are the scrap resources you made mine-able concentrated the most? That's where I would go replacing some with my custom Gem mines, if it fits with visible geography/geology of the map.

Hey Mandalf, feel free to use it in any way you see fit :praisesun:
Good to see people modding kenshi :beeped::cactusrum:

Hello RoyalFox, I have taken what you said below to heart and made several a series of submods and a scrap resource out of this mod. I hope you don't mind this (as indicated below) and I give you great kudos for this magnificent mod.

"Here at Slightly Harder Kenshi Mods Inc, we believe that all this power should come with a price. So we have set about adding steep research requirements and additional build costs to the workbenches created by this mod. No longer is all this scrap processing free and easy, now your climb to the empire of rubble will be slightly steeper!"
Rasta 5 Feb, 2023 @ 11:10am
@royalfox - Thank you for this. We miss you
RoyalFox  [author] 19 Feb, 2022 @ 5:40pm
People in the comments section; Please just tweak what you want with the mod and upload a modified version to workshop if you think you can create something more fitting to your tastes. I've long since abandoned playing Kenshi after 2000+ hours and its very easy to learn the forgotten construction set. There's no coding involved and you can even import the changes from this mod if you wanted to, just fix the references to maintain compatibility.

Probably the most amazing mod on the entire site, as much as I love the other mods for different reasons, None. And I mean None.

Can compare to the beautiful ways one can completely change their game into a new play-style, into scrapping and scavenging for ways to build an entire empire out of the rubble of the old! It takes much longer, but can be done.

Thanks for the awesome mod!
Гном-хуекрад 4 Jun, 2021 @ 2:54pm
I may not understand something, but can you explain to me how to create objects from scrap metal? I found scrap, but how to make something out of it?
Sahexil [EH] 6 May, 2021 @ 10:25pm
If you're a modder, make a better version of this one.
Simple.
Legion 3 Apr, 2021 @ 3:14pm
1) Lack of self control is a you problem. You shouldn't put your lack of control as someone else's responsibility. 2) I don't have to be the author to criticize requests. This is a public space. 3) I'm not speaking for the MA; I'm speaking as someone criticizing your poor request and as a MA myself who despises requests like this SPECIFICALLY for your stated reason. 4) Again, I am criticizing you; that's fair. Being offended that I'm not backing you does not make me unfair. You're not the MA here so being "unfair" to you is irrelevant. Do a better format than the adult version of "I'm rubber and you're glue., and do better than twisting my words around.
Thundercraft 21 Mar, 2021 @ 10:56pm
"You may make multiple versions of a mod, but taking your standard and attempting to plant it on others is still unfair." Unfair, you say? But that's exactly what you're doing to me now: Attempting to impose your point of view and standards on someone else.

"...make multiple versions of a mod that I have to keep up..." Actually, I can understand and appreciate this sentiment. Yes, maintaining more mods is more work. Even so, some mod authors are amenable to creating at least one or two alternate versions.

If you feel the mere act of making such a request - even politely - is "unfair" to a mod author or even feel insulted by it, then it sounds to me like you're just unusually thin-skinned. But I'll definitely try to remember to never make such a request concerning one of your mods.
Thundercraft 21 Mar, 2021 @ 10:46pm
"...ESPECIALLY when it contains features that CAN be easily ignored." This mod contains one feature that I really, desperately want as well as what - to me - seem like obvious cheats. This is a dilemma because I really do not want the latter. The temptation is always there to build those benches and use them. Also, I'm pretty forgetful and I don't do well with self-control in games. That, and it contains similar stuff that I already use other mods for and may conflict. And I'm sure that others exist who'd feel similarly about this mod.

"It was a polite request, but not immune to being criticized."
I'm confused: Why? You're not the author. It was not addressed to you. Then again, I am always confused by those who seem to feel it is their moral obligation to feel insulted on the behalf of others and to speak on the behalf of complete strangers by interpreting how they should feel about something.
Legion 21 Mar, 2021 @ 1:54pm
I can actually say that I never made a request of a mod author save for me being allowed to update their mod if it appears abandoned. What you believe is irrelevant; so, you don't get to make that call, slugger. As a mod author myself, I can appreciate comments as well, but I don't appreciate people asking me to make multiple versions of a mod that I have to keep up on when one is plenty enough. ESPECIALLY when it contains features that CAN be easily ignored.

You may make multiple versions of a mod, but taking your standard and attempting to plant it on others is still unfair. It was a polite request, but not immune to being criticized.
Thundercraft 20 Mar, 2021 @ 9:44pm
@Nomadic
It was JUST a request. I thought I was polite. (I even used 'please'.) You almost make it sound like I was being pushy or demanding, like I have seen in some comments.

It doesn't hurt to ask. And it doesn't hurt the author or other players to read comments. About 95 times out of 100, requests get ignored, anyway.

If you've ever used more than a few mods, then don't tell me that you've never, ever made a request of a mod author, because I don't believe it.

As a mod author, myself, I actually appreciate comments - even constructive criticism, suggestions and requests. I might ignore a lot of them or fail to actually respond more often than not, but I do appreciate all of them.

Sometimes, I even accommodate a request to make a separate version. :steamhappy:
Legion 20 Mar, 2021 @ 9:09am
Or, Thunder, you can EASILY ignore everything else about the mod you don't want to use if you have proper willpower. Why should a mod author release several versions of a mod because people want to be picky? That's unfair to them.
Rasta 20 Mar, 2021 @ 6:28am
Left a Like. This mod is very lore friendly especially for a post apocalyptic world.

@ RoyalFox [author]
I really wanted to use this for the ability to harvest scrap from junk piles. But then I learn that it also adds benches to build books, ancient science books, engineering research, and AI cores as well as stuff to build scrap weapons.

Granted, as you say, we aren't forced to use all parts of the mod. However, there are plenty of other mods on the Workshop - many of them popular - for building things like books and AI cores and some of us prefer to use those.

In my game I don't want to see multiple different ways to make books. That would be confusing. And I don't want even a single way to make AI cores as I want to be restricted to obtaining them more legitimately. Also, I have my own preferences on junk weapons, such as "Lore Friendly Weapons - Turret Bat".

Would you consider releasing a separate "Scavenging" mod that only includes the scavenging scrap from junk piles? Pretty please?
kasandra.ardnasak 23 Jan, 2021 @ 7:15am
I love this mod. It works upon existing lore of the game, hella immersive. 10/10 would reinvent again through scavenging.
RoyalFox  [author] 10 Aug, 2020 @ 5:14pm
It's tinkering, not turning metal into paper. Because if you had all the components in front of you and enough time, you'd be able to reinvent the wheel. Kenshi just uses books as its research costs instead of a million spare parts you would waste learning how to create functional electricity or wind turbines
IC 10 Aug, 2020 @ 8:38am
I'm very much appreciated the works you've put in in every mod, but a question if I may... How can a man turn iron plates into books!?!?
Marshy 16 Apr, 2020 @ 9:59am
Seconding Nyarlathotep's request. A dismantle button on the constructed scrap piles would be helpful.
Nyarlathotep 25 Feb, 2020 @ 5:53pm
Can you add a Dismantle button to scrap resource objects? They are blocking places I'd like to build in a number of areas.
RoyalFox  [author] 5 Dec, 2019 @ 6:09pm
I have no idea how that happened, Does that happen without any other mods enabled?
Bacon & Eggs 5 Dec, 2019 @ 2:37pm
I'm not sure if its because of a mod conflict but I am able to craft AI cores and Science books without any ingredient costs.
RoyalFox  [author] 12 Nov, 2019 @ 6:45pm
I would have to know what they were named in the editor, sorting through all the random foliage is very time consuming.
ToastnSalmon 12 Nov, 2019 @ 6:33pm
Hey is there a way to add Barges as scrap resource nodes? I have them at my base in burning forest (glutton for pain) and would like to use them
Darenkel 10 Nov, 2019 @ 2:58pm
Yay! We have Scrap Storage Boxes!
Darenkel 7 Nov, 2019 @ 9:59am
As a player that ends up using this mod as my primary form of resource generation, it would be nice to have a storage box for scrap because my consumers seem to have trouble pulling scrap from multiple available sources.
Ikamus 5 Nov, 2019 @ 11:17am
i would also like to see a storage box for scrap if possible.
Damos 3 Nov, 2019 @ 8:12am
And why on all of this research items productions 20% rate? it makes me angry.
Damos 3 Nov, 2019 @ 8:10am
AI core production is faster than Engineering researches, change production speed of researches?

i love this mod *-* but we really need a storage box for the scrap. If you could please do that, it would be really cool <3
Ghost_Bunni 20 Oct, 2019 @ 9:11pm
Thank you so much
RoyalFox  [author] 20 Oct, 2019 @ 7:31pm
First find the mod by going to the workshop folder of the game which will be its store ID (The number on the url for the game) which is 233860, then find the folder for this mod which the ID is 1889663122, then you can copy the workshop folder to Kenshi's mod folder which is located inside the game folder, then change the name of the workshop folder to the same name as the .mod file, then you can open it in the editor that comes with Kenshi. There's numerous guides on how to do this.
Ghost_Bunni 20 Oct, 2019 @ 7:27pm
how can i edit some of the recipes in this mod?
DirtyLilToaster 19 Oct, 2019 @ 7:49pm
I found a way around it if this comes back up. I found this https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/233860/discussions/0/1694920442947326917/

But heres a quick version:
Backup your saves, or at least make a hard save.
Go to where you want to remove trees (or whatever else).
Open the in-game editor (shift-f12)
Click "Navmesh Tools"
Click "Roads"
Click "Foliage Removal"
Drag on the terrain to draw circles: drag out one or more circles covering where you want the trees gone.
Save
Load (f9)
Close in-game editor
RoyalFox  [author] 19 Oct, 2019 @ 10:46am
If you can't deconstruct the scrap piles I added like any other building there's always the map editor that lets you delete stuff, and I don't know why those things aren't disappearing.
DirtyLilToaster 19 Oct, 2019 @ 3:34am
Very cool and adds new ways to play which I always like. Question though: Is there a way to make it so this mod still lets the game "clean up" scrap piles near your base? My base is fairly congested and with the mod all the piles of junk that the game normally gets rid of after you build a building are back cluttering walkways.
I mean if worse comes to worse I could just enable the mod, make some books, and reload after disabling it. But I'm curious if I can avoid that.
Zwei 19 Oct, 2019 @ 12:05am
Maybe having a maximum capacity on each of the containers would be a great idea. Just a minor suggestion.
RoyalFox  [author] 18 Oct, 2019 @ 9:53pm
Yeah the scrap metal png is a random image I got from google so I'll see if turning off auto icon will fix it or not since it already works on my end.
animegeek 18 Oct, 2019 @ 5:43pm
It's probably due to the auto icon setting. here is what I found in someone elses post.
"Check if the item has it 'auto icon' true or false. If true it will try to take an icon that matches the icon size listed and by some other indicators (I haven't figured out what). Alternatively set it to false then make a new icon. It can be a PNG type (others might work too, haven't tested them) then place that file in a folder called icons within the mod folder that is generated when you created your mod. After that you will need to type in the path such as .mods/yourmodname/icons/iconfilename.png"
RoyalFox  [author] 18 Oct, 2019 @ 3:58pm
Yeah I get that glitch too but on other mods, I have no idea what causes the large red X and poking around the log files didn't teach me anything about it either.
Arlisbloxer05 18 Oct, 2019 @ 2:36pm
So ive run into somthing interesting, The Inventory icon for the scrap appears as a large red X, could it be a mod conflict?
RoyalFox  [author] 18 Oct, 2019 @ 6:42am
It's meant to be less efficient than the vanilla means of production and acquisition. You're welcome to open my mod in the FCS and change any values you like, and reupload it with cheatier values if you want.
SevenTheundead1 18 Oct, 2019 @ 12:33am
why does the eng research take a few life time to make
Essedus 17 Oct, 2019 @ 6:19pm
I may stop using clean and speed + just for this.
RoyalFox  [author] 17 Oct, 2019 @ 2:00pm
You should be able to dismantle them like any other building.
fulf 17 Oct, 2019 @ 1:10pm
Brilliant mod from what I've seen so far.
One tiny thing- would it be possible to make player-built scrap piles dismantle-able?
Lovecraft 17 Oct, 2019 @ 7:02am
this is a cool mod. i like
