Many otters species live on tropical regions and have to problem with higher temps, the only exception being the sea otter. It would be the same temperature range vanilla huskies have.
This part is subjective but the 'laugh' of the hyenas and the howl of coyotes is honestly annoying. I had a handful of hyenas and I was going mad because of their constant and loud 'HAHEEEHAHA' sounds. The coyote as well makes a kind of prolonged, constipated 'eeee!' sound and I can never bring myself to tame them because of it. If these animals were made to be less loud and make noises much less often, I bet most would appreciate it. Thanks
You need to reduce the spawn rate of those predators.
*getting back my peace of mind*
And yes, thank you to the VE Team - making these mods!
Either way, the stun/surprise attack works wonders to lower the chances of them getting hurt and bleeding out after hunting hares and such. I'm not sure why the mod doesn't have this initially, but I like the extra animals too much to just boot it, so maybe this will help other people who also don't wanna just remove the mod. And thank you to the VE Team for making so many mods for us. Cheers! :) (2/2)
In Vanilla predator defs have some additional code to their bite/scratch attacks called SurpriseAttack, which seems to be what stuns animals they hunt when they first attack it, giving them a chance to actually do some damage/kill before their prey can fight back if the first attack doesn't immediately kill them. Even smaller predators like foxes have it.
I just added the Surprise/Stun code to the RaceDef files for Otters/Coyotes and it works wonders for not having them bleeding out and dying constantly. I just compared/contrasted it to vanilla defs to make sure I got things like the placement right. (1/2)
some ppl love it - some ppl not.
and vanilla animals do not bleed out against a rat or a rabbit that often. it's possible but it's rare.
i can rpg-explain it for me as territorial fight. but always both die (winner by bleeding out), so you get 2 corpses (meat, fur) for free -> pretty imbalanced, so i dropped this mod.
same bleeding out with otters as i mention below,
i never gone hunting and had no place for animal corpses because all suicide on the map so frequently...
There is of course, the very high chance I've broke something with my mod pile and have no idea where to look to fix it. Perhaps set the coyotes to hunt smaller prey?
"All bears, Alpacas, Ostrich, Rhinoceros, Cow, Elk, Caribou, Warg and Elephants can now be used as pack animals and will be used by other factions"
So if animals don't have to be addressed individually, and this is doing it on a "category-wide" basis, I think it's time I abandoned that mod.
Thanks for the help Oskar+Sarg, you guys are the best, bar none!
