Scaled works too. Any light armor that seems to be made out of leather works.

if you made it 1/3 or 1/4 of the leather recycling looted items might make for a better balance. And the suggestion of leather strips only from boots makes sense.

Is it possible to have the amount of leather recycled be random? Bandits might not be as rigorous at maintaining their armor, so no usable leather to recover some times.

@JarlSagan Maybe if you got leather strips out of boots, that's all you'd really get from them anyway.

It's too bad they took out the durability facet of armours. That would help you decide how much usable leather you can get from converting the junk you get off of thugs and barbarians. A nice idea though, I was just thinking this should be do-able.

@Backreaper Do you have any balancing suggestions? Should I require two pairs of boots to get one piece of leather?

nice mod, but you get a little much leather from junk items...
