Mission 5 has either been screwed up by subsequent patches or is just ridiculously overtuned in the beginning. By the time you get off the deck the two interceptors are about 12 miles away and will immediately launch on you. It makes no sense that they'd get that close without any response from the carrier group, and you end up having to restart until you get lucky and they shoot someone other than you.
My suggestion? Have them SILENTLY appear once we're RTB on a trigger. So that we can either make a break for it, or fight our way out. If someone doesn't notice them appear, they'll come in from behind and they WILL catch up, the way you set them up.
If the player sends their wing to RTB, or to disengage, they will also not be caught unaware, so there is counterplay and it won't screw them over. Unless they were careless, like me, and that turned out to be a memorable experience. While I feel the successful run is, kind of basic in comparison.
I had a really unique experience in this campaign on the second mission. I had spent far too much time on the island, and my wingmen went bingo fuel, winchester. I had Two sidewinders, guns and barely enough fuel to get home but more than them. So here we are, now just reaching the water, with 56nm to the carrier.
Suddenly three fighters had caught up to us, and it was me against the three.
Really smart fighters, I could down two, but the third always got me. Trying to fight them always had one peeling off and going for my wingmen. Eventually I would try to make a break for it, and lure them. I had quite the afternoon trying to kill these guys.
To repeat what Flanker Said,
Could you please update the FA-45's weapons list for the campaign?
There are NEW weapons for the FA-45 that are smart targeting bombs. They are wing carried or internal bays.
You need to allow us to select them on airplane loadout. These are important weapons for this craft and since it is lacking, it is harder to complete
Could take some of the new air to ground missiles and just pelt the ships with them. Maybe use the cruise missiles to take out the sam sites first. The sam sites are usually not very successful at shooting them down, then even if they do you have a chance to take them out with guns while they reload.
I also designate the ships as targets and have my wingmen attack them first.
Could also use the mountain as cover, so you can lob bombs around it onto the ships, or snipe them with guns.
- Started with 8x GPS bombs and 4x cruise missiles
- Turned right after taking off, ordered my wingmen to orbit and went around the far side of of the island at 1000 feet.
- Planned 4x routes to each port and and fired the missiles. After that I climbed to 32000 feet, lined up the GPS targets for the SAM and radar on the long outcrop along with the airfield and bombed them with all the GPS.
- Returned to the carrier and ordered my wingmen to attack.
- Reloaded, only enough money for 1x cruise missile and 8x GPS bomb
- Returned to the island, all wingmen down
- Fired last cruise missile
- Dropped bombs on the SAM on the far side of the island and the ships in harbour
- 2 ships left, no money and only guns left, I managed to destroy one ship SAM but got shot down by the others.
22 destroyed out of 24, failure.
I think it is almost (perhaps not quite) impossible but I had alot of fun trying to beat it! Thanks again! :)
Does anyone have any tips for the first mission? I destroy most targets but I can't get near enough to the ships without getting obliterated, tried cruise missiles but they get shotdown or crash.
Thank you for letting me know that it's not automatic. lol
Could you please update the FA-45's weapons list for the campaign? It lacks a lot of newly added weapons.
