only strange thing indeed is, the AI seems to like to drive on the fast lane the whole time lol.
As far as the mod on topic I already suggested make the current version and just rename it like '70s style driving or something like that
But if you really want an extra version of the mod just say it and I'll cook something up
I don't have the interest to set up a change in the mod name but I'm willing to put up a version of this exact mod with a bit more traffic while slightly lowering the safety settings.
Right now these are the other settings:
ai_safety_modifier: 1.0 (stock is 0.3)
ai_patience_modifier: -1.0 (stock is 0)
ai_horn_delay: (7.0, 15.0) (stock is 4.0, 8.0)
ai_blink_delay: (1.0, 4.0) (stock is 3.0, 6.0)
ai_yield_wait_time: (10.0, 20.0) (stock is 20.0, 30.0) lower patience -> higher wait time
ai_yield_timeout: (2.0, 5.0) (stock is 3.0, 5.0) lower patience -> lower timeout
let me know what you think is best
But for the life of me I can't find that mod (albeit when I was using it, it was 2017) that changes all the scenery and signage to make it look like 1970. If you know what mod I'm talking about, help me out here. I can't find it anymore and apparently lost the only copy I had.
Overall: The traffic indeed drives safely. But I think "over-the-top" safely and slow for a modern day feel.
The upside: One advantage to this traffic mod in it's current state . And I do mean keeping the issues I am mentioning here. If anyone still plays with the 1970's mod and 60's/70's trucks to make it look and feel like it did 50 years ago, this AI traffic mod would be perfect for that. Because that's exactly how people drove back then. (I grew up in that era.) It literally felt like 1970, with much less traffic, and everybody giving more room and driving slower.
I would definitely keep this mod. But I would rename it "1970's Traffic Behavior" because that's exactly what it is. I would keep it in my favorites for that reason.
This mod seems to be going in the right direction, but needs some tweaking. Very good job, but 2 things I noticed need improvement if you are trying to replicate 2020's traffic behavior. (Note on that below.)
1) The traffic seems to be half as much as default. Great for framerates and low end PCs, but seems dull with the only major traffic being in cities and towns.
2) After trying this mod for about 6 hours, I noticed that most of the time the traffic drives at the truck speed limit instead of going faster. Not only was it strange seeing all the cars go as slow as trucks, but it made it very difficult to change lanes. Because now you would have some car matching your speed right next to you, and you no longer have the ability to wait for him to move on so you can get behind him.
ALL the AI vehicles drive faster, which is good in that you don't get stuck behind slow traffic, but cause them to behave unrealistically. I had a bus drive in the left lane for an hour (in-game) as it slowly, slowly, slowly passed me.
The speed can be 60, you're doing 62, and every other truck is passing you in the left lane doing 70.
You won't be able to pass anyone. I came across a truck entering the highway which was uphill, so it started off going rather slow. I had enough momentum to pass, but by the time we crested the hill, he began accelerating. Speed was 60, I'm doing 65 just trying to complete the pass (trying not to get a ticket), and he's now beginning to pass me in the right lane.
Again, it's not necessarily terrible. Some people will appreciate it, some won't.
In short = more safety means more distance. Not sure what I can do, but I might do a temporary edit to the parameter to see if it improves at all. Let me know what value you want to see (default is 0, modded is -1)
@kostial.k unfortunately the amount of traffic is controlled by the same file I used for modding the traffic behavior. Adding a bit more traffic may be possible if it isn't too hard on older hardware but I can't turn it into a rush-hour mod :(
