Also, I know this is a dumb question but how exactly does one start a game on this map? I have the megalomaniac mode engaged and all that but when I click to start a Free game, I can't for the life of me see the map...
Generally I'd rework the ratio between the different industry stages. I'd like to more often be able to use several suppliers for a plant, this of course covers the different stages. Steel mills require 2iron+2coal for steel so you need 2 iron and coal plants each to maximize a mill, a goods or machines factory also needs 2 fully upgraded steel mills to maximize. Also the plastics or planks would be needed in the same amount.

- Chiba Food Processing is too far from a farm, I also route the output from Nakatsukawa Farm to the Nagoya Food Processing Plant
- The location of the Nagoya Food Processing Plant was better before 1) it was at the end of the return from Nagoya via the farms, where the Grain could be picked up from a shared truck stop. 2) It was accessibly by ship. So just change it back
- One of Shizuoka or Yokohama Chemical Plant is redundant
- Maebashi Construction Materials is without a good Quarry in the vicinity
- Move Sapporo Oil Refinery a bit so that it is accessible by ship
- Nagaoka Oil Refinery#2 is at a good location, but Nagaoka Oil Refinery is now redundant
- Nigata Tools Factory and Nagaoka Machine Factory both compete for planks
[Part 2/3]
FYI I spent around 35 mio to build two large airports, one north of chiba (relatively cheap) and one between Kyoto and Osaka, which was 24 mio.
Another thing I noticed, is that all bridges are impassable for ships, e.g. between Kobe and Tokushima. This could easily be fixed if you'd increase their height.
Another that you could look at, would be to make the plants close to water more easily accessible by ship, right now you have to build tunnels through the mountains so that the catchment area is close enough. Examples for that are the Kanazawa Construction Materials Plant and the Uwajima Oil Well.
I opened the update in the map editor and I'll just list what I would change:
- Kushiro Farm is really far from Nayoro Food Processing
- Okayama Food Processing Plant is far from another farm but close to Takamatsu Food Processing plant, I'd replace the former by a farm

I've made some adjustments based on your feedback, Tokyo area should provide better routing options now. Changes some other industries around aswell to make it more manageable to build cargo routes without having to tackle rough heights early on.
Sadly I can't/don't want to do anything about giving "free" space for an airport, Japan terrain is naturally very rough and most costal/plain areas have towns and cities in them. That said, theres a couple places moderately far from cities that can hold an airport with little to no terraforming.
I hope you try this new version :)
The other problem I see, is that there is hardly any space for an airport, but I don't know it that can be fixed without messing up the map.
Greetings!
I'll try to upload the map with no cities/industries tomorrow, removing them should be easy, but i need to clean up the terrain and roads as well so it might take a few hours to finish
Quick update about the map. I added a new City and 30 + industries. After trying a couple different starting spots I found the available routes too strict and punishing. I expect this change to open up more starting oportunities and provide more expansion mid/late game.
I apologize to everyone who started a game in this map already, but I recommend you start a new game with the updated map for a better enjoyment!
I'm heading out to work now, if anyone finds something that should be changed or has any suggestions please comment :)
