Hi - I've lost the texture on this mod - been using it fine for several months and not added or removed any mods since ... but the roads are washed-out and looking like they have an opaque layer over them. I guess this may be unique to me but thought I'd post in case anyone else had something similar.

why is there boxes on the default roads the towns use to grow? the 20 mph ones
themeatballhero 11 Jun, 2023 @ 9:31am
Hey Iowa, I'm working on a giant roadpack and wanted to know if I could use your textures. Its got 3 different road types including grooved concrete, asphalt with cracks and thinner sidewalks, with lots more features. I requested you as a friend, so if you accept it, hit me up and i can show you everything. Thanks! ~meatball

Currently the textures are wrong on highways. Only two lane highways have the yellow lines, while the three lane and highway ramp have yellow.

@Overlord
The mod only replaces textures. So your saves should be fine.
Overlord 19 Oct, 2022 @ 8:52am
Can I use it in existing savegame? And what if I unsub this mod? Is the savegame going to be fine or no? I mean game replaces the american roads back to vanilla or all roads will be missing and I corrupt my savegame? :) Thanks

@kitsunelegendXx At least in California, the left edge line on all one-way roads is yellow.
Iowa  [author] 18 Dec, 2021 @ 12:46pm
@kitsunelegendXx thanks for your explanation, and thank you for the work you do as a truck driver. You guys keep our country moving, Also thank you for your kind words regarding the mod, I tried my best to make it as realistic as possible within the limits of the game.
kitsunelegendXx 16 Dec, 2021 @ 5:21pm
@Stormlover_51 Actually thats incorrect. There IS a national standard for road colors (marking styles can slightly vary, but are usually similar) They need to be this way so when you're traveling from one state to another, its easier to understand what to do.

Trust me, I'm a truck driver in the US. I've traveled all over this country, and through just about every state minus California, Alaska, and Hawaii. Line colors are pretty much the same whereever you go. Yellow in the middle, to dictate the separation of traffic flow, and white on the outside edges. The ONLY time you'll ever see a different set up is on major interstates and multilane highways, where the yellow line will be on the far left, with dashed or solid white lines denoting the different lanes.

Essentially, this mod is mostly accurate, with the exception of the interstates. But I wont fault the mod author for that due to it being a base game issue. :)
Stormlover_51 5 Aug, 2021 @ 8:15pm
In case anyone didn't know, U.S. road markings (lines and colors) can vary from state to state; there is no national standard. Thank you for your mod.
mlaw710 11 May, 2021 @ 11:27am
yellow lines are in the middle white lines are on the edge of the road i know this because i live in america
mlaw710 11 May, 2021 @ 11:26am
bruh american roads have a white line on the side not a yellow line
Iowa  [author] 10 May, 2021 @ 11:36am
"Please note that with the current way roads are generated, it is not possible to have 2 differently colored borders. I have decided to have them completely yellow rather than white for the more American look."

I haven't modded TF2 for a while, so there might be a chance this has been changed. I will take another look at it some time, but no guarantees that I am able to change it.
Evil.Iguana 6 May, 2021 @ 2:50pm
Question: Is is feasible to have the yellow center line but leave the white borders on the highways? I like the look of this mod for the bidirectional roads but the yellow borders on the highways are enough of a downgrade to make me hesitant to keep it activated. If it's possible I may try to see if I can achieve that through my own tinkering. I did a lot of road modding in Cities: Skylines but obviously the data structures here are very different.

Thanks for this mod - its essential for my style of play

Not sure if you could add the option for no end year, same as the guy has done with UK Better Roads... Thanks in advance
Iowa  [author] 13 Mar, 2020 @ 1:51pm
Sorry for the late reply, but those are the modern traffic lights. They will automatically be placed after a certain date (dont know the exact year) when placing down a new intersection.

Where can i get the silver traffic lights with the yellow border (if you are confused, fourth image) from?

Razgriz 26 Feb, 2020 @ 12:55pm
I don't think there are any american road types at all with outer yellow borders, at least none that I've ever seen.

Could you make a version where the outter "shoulder" lines are white instead of yellow on the smaller roads?

Sometimes I get the Traffic Signals and sometimes not in the city traffic, what am a doing wrong?
Iowa  [author] 6 Jan, 2020 @ 7:00am
Unfortunately, it's not. However most features of that mod are featured in this mod.
Gregory_TheGamer 5 Jan, 2020 @ 7:01am
I might be asking a rather stupid question, but is this mod compatible with Sparky66's Better Roads? I have a feeling it's not however I would like confirmation from the author...
kamykaze13 27 Dec, 2019 @ 12:37pm
Aha, yes yes. I checked and they don't, because of weirdo sidewalks on highways. x)
Iowa  [author] 27 Dec, 2019 @ 11:34am
I have added the borders to highway junctions. Apparently these weren't in the vanilla highway files, which means that the vanilla highways don't have borders on their junctions which is kinda odd.
kamykaze13 26 Dec, 2019 @ 12:13pm
Mh, yeah. Even though it would be nice to have that added, there is a problem.

If you change the width of a road and load an existing game, already built roads of that type will still be unchanged and can't be demolished, or upgraded. That's an issue. :)

Anyway, thank you.
Iowa  [author] 26 Dec, 2019 @ 10:12am
Hey Kamykaze13,

Thanks for the comment. I will look into the issue with junction borders for highways.
Regarding the small one way country road, I will look into that as well.
kamykaze13 26 Dec, 2019 @ 6:32am
Hey there Doge.
There seems to be an issue with junction borders for highways.
They weren't showing up for me and i discovered that there was an entry for 'junctionBorder' missing in 'country_large_one_way_new'. I added this and everything is fine now.

I also would want to suggest making small one way country roads wider. I increased their width to 4 and lanes to 3. I think it's nicer this way, because trucks barely fit those narrow roads, which looks a little silly.
Spearin 21 Dec, 2019 @ 5:08pm
This could also be considered Canadian roads.

Made a temporarily fix for the arrows reflection, permanent fix in the works.
Iowa  [author] 18 Dec, 2019 @ 11:30am
I am aware of the issue with the reflections on arrows. I am looking for a way to fix it.

Well, lets just say, if you didnt do this mod, I would have :D

I appreciate the fact that you don't demand stuff like some other people and instead are trying to find a solution to both sides of the problem.
CC Johnson 17 Dec, 2019 @ 1:26pm
Your mod, your desicion. Appreciate the hard work and the conversation.
Great, looking forward to some sensible roads. Thanks.
Iowa  [author] 17 Dec, 2019 @ 1:23pm
Regarding the sidewalks on country roads, yes I was already planning on removing those.
Iowa  [author] 17 Dec, 2019 @ 1:22pm
I appreciate the feedback, but I still find the yellow border better than all white when it comes to American roads. Until I find a way to have 2 different borders they will stay yellow. Regarding urban roads, I will give those a look again to make sure they are realistic.
CC Johnson 17 Dec, 2019 @ 1:21pm
@Doge
I see. Didnt realize that before.
But now I have a conflict with "No sidewalks on country roads". Would you be willing to include getting rid of those rediculousnesses (?) in your mod? By the way, the yellow side lines on city oneways look really good. The ones on coutry roads still dont.

@Celendis
Yeah, as I said, urban looks good.
Country not so much. I know you have left line yellow right line white. But since its not possible right now I stand by my opinion that two white looks better (on country) than two yellows.
Celendis 17 Dec, 2019 @ 1:14pm
Now that I considered it, I was only looking at urban one-way roads. Our divided highways definitely do have the yellow on the left, which might be what you are trying to figure out.
Celendis 17 Dec, 2019 @ 1:12pm
@Doge, thanks for making this thread. I see you are looking into making different line colors on each side of a one-way road, but we typically only have white markings on one-way roads, if there are even any side markings at all. I checked in several major US cities using Google street view, and haven't seen a yellow line yet.
Iowa  [author] 17 Dec, 2019 @ 1:00pm
The vanilla roads use the same lines for the medium roads and the large roads. Which ended up giving the larger roads yellow lines for every lane. With the custom config files I made I was able to counter this.
CC Johnson 17 Dec, 2019 @ 12:47pm
Great. One more question: This one replaces the lines, doesnt it? Why include anything other than textures? Does it change anything else in the roads configs? Might interfere with other street mods that dont alter appearance but maybe add other road wides, for example.
Iowa  [author] 17 Dec, 2019 @ 12:42pm
Lol! I completely forgot about those, expect that to be fixed in the new update.
CC Johnson 17 Dec, 2019 @ 12:39pm
I just had a glance at the luas and I dont think you can. Might be wrong. One more thing: You changed the shapes of the arrow (which I love, the vanilla one are plain ugly), but you need to adjust the normalmap and gloss dds's.
Iowa  [author] 17 Dec, 2019 @ 12:33pm
I appreciate the honesty. I am still looking for a way to have 2 different borders on the same road, so I can have the left side yellow and the right side white.
CC Johnson 17 Dec, 2019 @ 12:28pm
Great work, thanks! But to be honest, I think, the one way streets look better in just white instead of two yellows. But no fuss, I just delete the corresponding roads from your mod. Thank you!
Iowa  [author] 17 Dec, 2019 @ 12:25pm
New update published, made the yellow lines darker and added yellow lines to one way streets.
CC Johnson 17 Dec, 2019 @ 12:10pm
Great to hear. Thanks. Looking forward to it.
