I can confirm that his method works. For those of you who want this mod to continue to work on the newest versions of Kenshi, please do the following:
1. Download the old 0.97 version of Kenshi through the BETAS tab under the games properties menu.
2. Open Kenshi with the finisher mod loaded.
3. Close Kenshi and redownload the newest update. The mod will be working again.
[As a side note, I tried to reupload a new version of the mod, and it didn't not let me update the mod.] I would have to make a whole new Mod page in the workshop].
Thank you all for the support and continue to enjoy this mod. :)
The mod only applies to humanoid characters (Ref first paragraph), which Hivers aren't apart of.
This is intentional, as I found them to be pretty frail and easy to kill permanently. They are also kind of a "creature" rather than a human like character, so I suppose a human looking skull wouldn't really fit their heads. haha
Thanks for investing time in this mod though, I hope you're enjoying the game!
Funnily enough, I did that today and no luck. I got what appeared to be a successful KO, with the sound effect in text form above his head. When I tried to loot him, no skull. He was a Hiver, if that matters.
But thank you for the quick response just the same!
I believe you can actually knock them unconscious while they're sleeping for the same effect. If you're going for a stealth build kind of assassin approach, you should have a pretty decent stealth knock out skill level.
Just knock them out and take their skull, and boom! You've got yourself a dead enemy in bed. lol
Very happy that you're enjoying the mod! I felt the exact same way! :)
I understand you, and thank you for your answer. I wish you good luck in your Hobbies, I hope to play your game, if I understand you correctly. Thanks
I 100% agree! But my modding knowledge of this game only goes so far. I am a game developer of my own games, and I spend a lot of time doing that. I like to play Kenshi but I don't have all the time in the world to invest in understanding it's context menus, which aren't as simple as item additions and their properties. I hope that clarifies the reason why I made this the way I did. I simply don't understand the engine to that depth.
Hopefully Kenshi 2 will have something similar, perhaps a skill added to Assassination.
I do not know which slaves used to have a skull because their traits have now been set to default. I do know however, which slave-type enemies that have skulls.
They are:
Drifter Cannibal Escapee
Escaped Slave Empire
Escaped Servant
Escaped Slave
Reaver Slave
Reaver Whelp
All of the other slave units do not have skulls. This also goes for the other extremely weak units who really pose no threat to you unless you are level 1 and unarmed, or bosses type enemies where you could cheat by knocking them out and take their skull. Hope that helped! :)
Merely asking for my own benefit: I do realize that this was back in late Dec of last year. But do you still remember the character types in the FCS that you altered so slaves no longer carry skulls (i.e., what they were labeled as in FCS)? Was it only the ones labeled "slave", or were there others? I've been trying to figure it out.
There are some slave units in the game that may attack the player under certain circumstances. I tried to keep the ones who aren't sold in cages the same as enemies, meaning they have a removable skull. If you find that there are still slaves in cages that can be bought with skulls in their inventories, please let me know and I'll go in and fix them. It's hard to balance it because slaves of different factions are all over the game. :P
"I just updated the mod so that Slaves no longer carry Skulls..."
Looking at the "Change List" in FCS, I see that "Escape slave Empire" and "Escaped Slave" still have "death items : Skull". Is this intentional? Or, is this an oversight?
It might be too late now because they have already spawned with it, but the update should fix it on a new game or an imported game.
I believe Triangle Bandits are not vanilla units?
I couldn't find them anywhere in the game's list of units, so I believe they are part of a mod.
I also looked them up online and couldn't find anything about them on the wiki, just links to mods for them. Perhaps they are named something different in the game's list.
I did just update the list to include Skeleton Bandits and Crab Raiders though! :)
Yep, I thought that would happen haha. It seems to be written that way in the games code.
Thanks for testing that out! You can always remove it from their inventory while they are alive and it should prevent your team from being able to be executed, which is up to you actually!
If you choose a human character to start with, you will start with a Skull.
I pulled it out of my own inventory right away and I didn't die.
Technically, it might kill you if you are knocked out and they take your skull item, but if you'd like to prevent that from happening, just sell the skull item in the nearest store you start next to, or throw the item on the ground. :)
