One's mind can really get away with you. I particularly liked your "Why don't you assume that the enemy can hack into your PC and uninstall Stellaris?"
For a design level purpose, why should a Gateway be hackable? You are discouraging the player from using advanced stuff, because anything seemingly confortable now can be a weapon of your enemy to be used against you.
Why don't you assume that the enemy can find a hack of your fleet and use them to attack you instead?
Why don't you assume that the enemy can find a hack of your planets and dismantle everything they can and resettle every pop into their own planets as slaves?
Why don't you assume that the enemy can hack into your PC and uninstall Stellaris?
So, why to assume that the Gateway is hackable?
