It's only working when you start a new game.
Jaba2Gus 7 Jan, 2024 @ 6:25am
i know that this mod is pretty much dead, but still.
is there a way to increase the maximum amount of characters you can enter in a name?
Inlogica 22 Mar, 2021 @ 3:28pm
EDIT*

Just copied your lines into the LUA from the other mod and now it works like a charm. Now i feel stupid and apologise for asking this question. Awesome work and thank you for sharing your mod with us!
Inlogica 22 Mar, 2021 @ 2:49pm
a very nice mod indeed but there are conflict issues when using alongside "all promotion tooltip" or something similar. Is it possible to make them work together somehow? Any kind of feedback on that matter would be appreciated.

you are THE man lol.!:clowney:

Doesn't work for me. Tells me that it's "blocked due to exclucivity". What the heck is that?
voxel 21 Nov, 2018 @ 8:51am
I tried right clicking on the name and pretty much everywhere else, but nothing worked. I have all the DLC installed if that helps.
Crashlionhart 10 Nov, 2017 @ 1:32pm
Right clicked on the name, picture, icon. Nothing works
Octopus 4 Jul, 2017 @ 9:01pm
Does not appear in mod list after subscribing
vondraco 4 Jun, 2017 @ 12:11am
@jehuxtable - Click on the NAME of the unit, not the picture. If that's what you ARE doing, apologizes, no idea why it's not working for you. I use dozens of mods and this one works just fine for Me.
DiktatrSquid 11 Apr, 2016 @ 5:39am
I subscribed, but nothing appears on my list, nor in my MODS-folder. I have BNW.
jehuxtable 28 Nov, 2014 @ 6:10pm
Doesn't do it for me......Right clicks only get me the civilopedia

I see the above text in
C:\Users\xxx\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\UI - EditUnitNames (v 1)

Only DLC active is BNW, this is the only mod activated.

A.K. what changes do I need to do in order to make it work for BE? When I installed it, all it did was made the Ui disapear? I'm not a modder, and maybe its real obvious. But can you help me out here? Thanks :D
Kalurak  [author] 6 Nov, 2014 @ 4:49pm
Folgore, this is the correct version for anyone who has BNW installed. As far as BE is concerned, I'm sure I will get it at some point and make this mod for it. If anyone doesn't want to wait and use this code for BE, feel free. According to A.K., it should work.
Nembo 6 Nov, 2014 @ 12:51am
what i have to do if i will use bnw and gnk?
8feet 31 Oct, 2014 @ 10:54pm
Plz make this a Mod in Beyond Earth :D
A.K. 26 Oct, 2014 @ 4:42am
This works for Civilization BE as well!(I edited UnitPanel.lua)
I experienced game crash once, while first try to load saved game.
Thereafter everything is fine it seems.
Thank you,Kalurak!

Ah, okay
Kalurak  [author] 21 Sep, 2014 @ 12:15pm
I've looked into that way back when I originally wrote this mod, and couldn't come up with a good solution. I think the font size was a limiting factor. There could be a way around that if you know what you're doing, but I basically just co-opted the existing renaming system and made it available upon right-click. Anything more is beyond my very limited programming skills.
ค็็็็็็็lex_ 20 Sep, 2014 @ 12:40pm
Do you reckon you could increase the character limit for a unit's name?
Ser Leoritch 22 Aug, 2014 @ 9:26pm
Nevermind, figured it out. new to this. thank you for the support. great mod
Kalurak  [author] 22 Aug, 2014 @ 5:43pm
Did you start a new game with the mod activated? It's been a long time since I wrote this or played Civ, but I think you can't activate it mid-game.
Ser Leoritch 22 Aug, 2014 @ 1:36pm
Hola Kal, cannot get it to work. I do have all expansions and i subscribed. This is the only mod active but when i right clik name, nothing happens. Any suggestions? Thanks for a great mod.
Civitar 28 Jul, 2014 @ 9:36am
Yeah you have to add that lua to all the UnitPanel.lua files (there is one with each expansion plus the vanilla one).
Kalurak  [author] 27 Jul, 2014 @ 11:16pm
Depending on which expansion you're using:
{Your Civ V Folder}\Assets\UI\InGame
\Assets\DLC\Expansion\UI\InGame
\Assets\DLC\Expansion2\UI\InGame
ค็็็็็็็lex_ 27 Jul, 2014 @ 11:29am
Where exactly is UnitPanel.lua?
Civitar 29 Jun, 2014 @ 6:36am
Two things:
(a) Thanks a lot Kalurak, I use this mod literally every time I play Civ5.
(b) Everyone, you can add the lua in the description to the base game's UnitPanel.lua in order to play with renamable units but still get achievements, after a while you'll forget ever not renaming units.
kadaju 12 Jun, 2014 @ 9:55am
thanks~
redda_19 8 Jun, 2014 @ 3:02am
Thanks, been waiting for a Mod like this for a while. AWESOME
EndlessAbyss 3 Apr, 2014 @ 4:51pm
I was talking to a friend of mine and said there is literally one thing wrong with this game, which was the inability to name units. Most brilliant!
cap 27 Mar, 2014 @ 11:38am
I know it's probably not your fault, but why won't this install?
Bag 15 Feb, 2014 @ 7:59am
It won't install when I launch the game. I've tried unsubscribing and then re subscribing but it still won't work :/
Ranger8599 10 Feb, 2014 @ 6:39am
A Must Have MOD!
Pilgrim 8 Jan, 2014 @ 11:04pm
And theres the problem... I started mid game :T Oh well! Thanks for the tips, mine friend!
Kalurak  [author] 8 Jan, 2014 @ 8:34pm
What do you mean by 'and such', doesn't it work on any units or just some, like naval units? Do you have BNW installed (the mods for other versions of the game are mentioned in the description)? Did you start a new game with the mod enabled? You can't start using it mid-game. It also won't work if you have any other mods that change the UnitPanel.lua. Good Luck!
Pilgrim 8 Jan, 2014 @ 7:51pm
I've tried to rename my Battleships, and such, but it isn't working... Any tips or anything on how to get it working?
Krokin 23 Dec, 2013 @ 6:28am
Why was this not implemented by default?
Plutsi 13 Dec, 2013 @ 1:54am
Thanks
DIY Miracle 12 Dec, 2013 @ 2:55am
The idea is to be able to rename them without levelling them up, derp.
Nopat 10 Dec, 2013 @ 4:58am
Fun to have personalized units from the get go.
Mechano 10 Dec, 2013 @ 12:10am
could be hilarious in multiplayer
Genie Goblin 8 Dec, 2013 @ 3:38pm
i named my giant death robot "Death con fun"
Genie Goblin 8 Dec, 2013 @ 3:37pm
you can already re-name your units when they level up

Kalurak  [author] 8 Dec, 2013 @ 12:52am
I've never played multiplayer, so I can't help you there. It should work like renaming a unit after a promotion - right clicking the name calls the same function.
UnstableCoffee 7 Dec, 2013 @ 11:35pm
Does it work on multiplayer? Does renaming work after the load game? And will the real player see changed name?
Kalurak  [author] 7 Dec, 2013 @ 10:33pm
Same character limit as when you earn a promotion. From what I remember, this is due to size constraints of the window itself, and I haven't found a way around that.
Houselord Greywald 7 Dec, 2013 @ 6:54pm
Does it allow more than 15 characters?
Trinity 7 Dec, 2013 @ 5:59pm
In response to Drake889 and anyone else who do not know how to download the mod, to download an mod is that you click upon the green "subscribed" button below the image and the mod will download atomatically to be ready for the next time you play.
