I hope someday you will consider porting it over
@GerarD MensoiF Nah it's very obnoxious to mod the skilltrees, and lords would take way more work than modding the hero trees did.
can you do the same for lords ?
Lorghul#6398
So, for example, if you mod the game so that all heroes get 2 skillpoints every time they level up my script will spend the first skillpoint on a hidden dummy skill and do nothing with the second skillpoint. So you'll have too many skillpoints.
Unfortunately I didn't write the script with mods that add more skillpoints in mind so you'd have to rewrite a bunch of the script to make it work properly.
I had a tough time makeshifting another mod to drop the hero modifications so I could still have level 60 lords with some extra skills and skills points without messing this mod up but it's worth it! Last issue is to add just a few more points to the heroes that don't get your new trees.
You see, I'm one of those TW players who don't like CA introducing skill tree mechanic for characters since Shogun2, but your mod actually making the skill tree feature not only playable, but also very enjoyable. The combinations in between the new skills is fun to play around with. And many heros' background traits are now engagingly relevant when making decision on how to build them.
10/10 quality!
only if it's something like "12% reload (hero's army)"
I'd be even happier if it was compatible with the dwarf brewmaster mod, but there are so many mods that add heroes and that one is a little more on the cheaty side than many
Limiting all the lords to have fewer skillpoints is much easier, just modify character_experience_skill_tiers_table. That is if you don't care about compatibility with other mods that add new lords, such as mixus. If you want compatibility you'd have to do what this mod does, and run a script that detects whenever a lord levels up and then dumps their skillpoints into an invisible dummy skill (that's why you can't use refund mods btw, because you get back all the invisibly spent skillpoints).
It's a fair amount of work to remove a minor annoyance, which is probably why nobody has done it yet.
Just out of curiosity, would the extend of making skill trees for lords be easier, if it just meant replacing the 3 tiers that certain skill have with just the last tier, so that all skills are essentially just one skill point? And then limiting the amount of skill points lords get.
That would essentially mean, that no new skill would have to be made, no balancing in terms of effects.
Doing lords would be too much work unfortunately. There are far more legendary + generic lords than there are types of heroes and their skills are far harder to design and balance because they change the stats of the entire army. Only doing generic lords doesn't feel worth it either, cause you don't use them nearly as often as legendary lords / heroes and because it would make them really weird/imbalanced next to legendary lords with vanilla skilltrees. I would love a version of this mod for lords too, just... so long as I don't have to make it.
I've tried changing something else, can you tell me if it fixes things? It's not much of a fix because it'll stop TEB duellists and myrmidia's from equipping their mounts, but if it stops the crashing I'll at least know where to look
I have another vague hunch for a fix so I've uploaded that.
Something super important to clarify - you're only loading Southern Realms, Southern Realms Asset Storage, and RPG Skill Overhaul, and it crashes before you reach the main menu? Or when you start a new campaign?
It's maybe caused by steam not properly downloading my mod or TEB when they updated, this kinda thing has happened before. Unsubscribing doesn't always fix this because it doesn't always delete the old file. Are you using the default mod manager or Kaedrin's mod manager?
Cataph's Southern Realms - Myrmidia and Duellist have skilltrees
Deco's Expanded Roster - Savage Boss and Regular Boss have skilltrees
Mixu's Tabletop Lords - Slayer has skilltree (Shadowdancer, Gorehoof and Empire Metal Wizard already had skilltrees)
SFO - Fleetmaster, Shadowdancer, Lost Sons and Wargor have skilltrees (the Slayer and Bloodthirster heroes didn't get skilltrees because they appear to be legendary heroes, please correct me if I'm wrong on this!)
New careers added, and a major balance pass on most every career. Generally speaking careers were simplified and had their negatives removed or reduced in exchange for the positives being weaker. Hopefully it's more balanced now, but changes can be reverted if everyone hates it
New method of applying skilltrees that should increase compatibility with other mods (basically, if another mod tries to add anything to the hero skilltrees, it can't. This should stop this mod and other mods having slap-fights over whose changes get applied)
Just as a test I've changed all the Empire Wizard starting traits. There aren't too many for now, but they're pretty impactful. Also Empire Wizards will be able to train up to Level 4 Wizard now, but only if they have the Talented starting trait
