This is one of my favorite maps, anyway you could make it with the new siberian biome dlc?

So if you want to make a river without spending any resources you could always use the cheat menu, it's activated by C+H+E, and then you could modify the map to your liking by adding rivers etc, plus, it's a lot faster than using bulldozers. Cheerz

Full-rocky seabed is the worst thing available in this game, because you cannot see underwater and have no idea why tf it takes ages.

Good luck with your move. I was looking and maybe doing an actual (small) river towards a NATO border (it is already kinda there?) would probably be enough.

Sewage is ok, in worst case you just build a sinkhole. I line it up with trees and bushes, so it it not too bad and that´s it. Before devs give is variable heights of water bodies (or even actual river flows), there is nothing we can do about it.

(My point was, if you're modding a map, set the minimum rock height to 1 meter, so that your entire coastline ahd seafloor is not rocky)

Yes, good thoughts, I do put a lot of thought into how the gameplay will work for people trying it on realistic, sewage is definitely an issue that makes some maps nigh impossible, maybe I can add some lakes or a river or something. Also, in my newer maps I try to add decent areas of gravel, in my opinion it shouldn't be too hard to get since it's not that valuable on it's own but is key to other industries. And the seafloor height is tricky to get because you have to import seafloor heightmaps as well, I think I have a way now using QGis. One issue I've seen with other people's maps is when they use the angle based rock generation. It makes mountains look nice for sure, but often makes coastlines too rocky for terraforming, which is often necessary to get ports and sewage outtakes etc.

Anyway I work full time and I'm in the middle of a move right now so it would be a few weeks before I got anything new done on any mods

Other thoughts:
- there is absolutely zero place to lead wastewater to in starting area. Yeah, forming a "shiethole" is an option an I accomodated two such craters already in my playthrough, but it is not too realistic. But I have no idea how to add small rivers without seriously overdoing walley to NATO border (and probably also widening it), as water flow downwards is not a thing in the game. So maybe "form a crater wherever you wish" it the best solution after all...

- Small republic od Deer Isle connection is fun and I started using it as separate from main network now and working from it to reach central islands (as terraforming a seabed is way out of my reach and patience for now). It would make an ideal "super-hard" starting area if it would be having only an 8MW of power connection to transformer of something like that, so you COULD start a small region from there without immediate need for powerplant.
Sirius Czech 21 Jan, 2023 @ 1:55am
That probably would be it, because otherwise it wouldn´t make any sense. So I am interested in new version if you will upload it some day, I may start a re-run.

If you will do it, I would probably make somewhere in starting area at least some small rock or two - ot at least give some rock patches to that big incline near the corner ot both borders. Not everywhere, so roads can be built, but at least few. Been restricted with gravel mining to only one section of the huge mountain, mixed also with coal, was pretty forceful for placing a starter city, as long as I love to do my gravel industry early.

Resources are great, only things the map needs is
- one more option for gravel mining in starting area
- bottom of sea higher then physical bottom of the map, so tunnels/underwater cables can be built there
- splitting resources from central island (and maybe move the uranium patch from bellow sea level), so it is more "even"

Thanks Jan, yeah I'm not sure what happens if you update a workshop mod. I feel like it wouldn't affect any older saves, so if you started a new game it would be the "updated version". I think the game imports the terrain directly to your save game the first time you run it. But I could be wrong here
Sirius Czech 20 Jan, 2023 @ 8:39am
What happens when you present "updated" version? It probably won´t change anything in current save, right?

Also, you included those resources, so it was not too long ago. And the map is beautiful, don´t take me wrong. And in realistic mode it is pretty challenging as well :)

Hi Jan, thanks for your comment, I haven't been modding for a while, busy in real life, but I need to make a new updated version of this map and others. When I made it, it was many versions of the game ago, underwater tunnels were not even a thing, nor was uranium or bauxite for that matter. I'm glad so many people liked this terrain, hopefully I'll find time to make an updated version at some point.
Sirius Czech 19 Jan, 2023 @ 9:19am
I really like this map, though i would give it 4,5/5 stars, because there is absolutely no way of building underwater tunnels like under "La Manche" or anywhere else, because the underwater terrain is at the bottom, so you either need to resort to "cheat menu" and lift it a little bit, or you have to spend hours in desperate pursue of anything.

For example I really love high oversees bridges with central section from big arch allowing ships to pass under, but in this game you HAVE TO divide bridges on dry land and this configuration makes it almost impossible.

Also dumping nearest deposits of Uranium ore to the deepest seabed is something I really do not appreciate, especially when the middle island has almost all resources clumped together (uranium, oil AND some bauxite iirc).

Don´t get me wrong, I started my first "true realistic" season on this map because I loved the challenge and I am all in for it and will go on. But there details prevent 5 stars from happening.

I will be updating this for the new aluminium deposit update when I can figure out how to get it back into my steam workshop WIP folder.

I love this map! The best on the workshop. I have even made undersea power cables just because of this map!

Классная карта,труднодоступность большей части территории заставляет делать акцент на корабли и в будущих обновлениях на авиацию.

Genuinely the best map I have played in this game. The hilly terrain forces you to be smart about how you develop your economy and what land you use for what resources, and makes you build some interesting-looking settlements. The fact that so many resources are on the islands but the best flat farmland is down south pushes you into making really cool logistics networks, which are made even more interesting by the amount of planning and land shaping needed to make a decent train network.

Just a 10/10 map all around. Great job.

looks pretty good, i canoed from ft simpson to innuvik inth NWT in 1992, this map reminds me of the area map i used.
good work

That being said this is not actually a DEM from northern canada but actually the inner passage of British Columbia near the northern end of Vancouver island
[FIRE] L4z0rr0b0tz  [author] 6 Apr, 2020 @ 8:53pm
Yes, those are a result of using the DEM, in real life those hills are steeper, but I wanted it to be flat enough to be playable, so I flattened it out, which left some weird spots here and there!
kromgart 6 Apr, 2020 @ 10:25am
The map has a good potential, but all coastlines go in very straight lines, with 90 and 45 degree turns. Also lots tiny rectangular shallow lakes near waterline. Probably caused by the source heightmap.
