Like I said on here, I've personally suggested a better implementation, whistle posts. That way you could post them near yards, tunnels, crossings of all kinds and some just for the hell of it because dat sweet sound.
But, yeah, not possible...yet.
That is, the Guard's Whistle sounds first, then the sound of the doors closing, and finally the train horn as it takes off.
@ Aksorn there is actually a way to add bells. theres a door open event and a door close event. it sounds like you would want the door close. you would just add it to the passenger car. the locomotive could still produce the whistle. you could also have two different sounds for the same event!
then comes the problem of the trigger. Currently there are only waypoints and signals. You could maybe get away with horns at every signal, not sure how realistic that would be, but a horn at every waypoint wouldn't be realistic. So that means another whole type of track side item just to trigger a horn.
I want the horn at tunnels and crossings just as much as the next guy, but it wouldn't be as simple as flipping a switch. I do agree, that was my original suggestion when i spoke with the devs. They told me though this wasn't even possible, which this is simply a work around.
That is to say, an item you place at trackside, like a waypoint or signal, that the Train will "toot-toot" at when it passes?
This would be a much more realistic solution, methinks, as well as allowing for lots of customisation..!
The many times I took Amtrak as a kid it blew the whistle just before leaving the station or as the doors were closing
