Also, here to say I'm very glad this mod exists, it's become a mainstay for me.
Thanks for putting me in the right direction and for making a great mod!
It's just that insects with unique chitin are being patched too.
Looking through the logs reveals that it is indeed patching AA insects

This image shows the black bugs, among others, are being patched.
That's strange that my mod seems to the having the issue even tho yours dosen't. Hopefully this isn't too hard to resolve.
Right now I have Alpha Animals chitin enabled in the settings and it seems to be working as intended for most all insects.
However, when slaughtering black hive insects normal AA chitin is dropped, even tho it should be dropping 'black insect chitin' from AA
If this could please be addressed that would be great, black chitin is very valuable and I hate to be missing out on it!
You might want to look at the mod setting menu included in this mod to help you decide, not sure if the other includes one.
Are the recipes showing up when you try to create new recipes?
You mentioned that toggling the recipes wasn't working? Can you check the log when starting RimWorld again, there should be a message saying the recipe users were removed for the recipes if enabled. This doesn't actually remove the recipes entirely, just stops them from showing up at crafting benches.
Make ALL your clothing out of it, then transmute it into something more comfortable. ;D
The only complaint I have is that there's SO MUCH chitin. If I kill some insects after an infestation, I get inundated with TONS AND TONS OMFGWTF of it, a lot more than i know what to do with.
Could you reduce the amount butchered? And maybe add some kind of a sink like a "fine" floor for nobles that would eat up a lot of chitin for constructing.
