This might need an update when VFE - Insectoids 2 drops...
Thranos 20 Jul, 2024 @ 5:03pm
Working in 1.5, no issues so far.
FireSloth 11 Apr, 2024 @ 9:35pm
Following for 1.5 update news!
Monkey Magic 24 Aug, 2023 @ 1:48pm
It's cool I made my own version after I noticed this was meant as companion for another mod. Besides I started over wit a fresh colony recently coz the save file has issues.
SirMashedPotato  [author] 24 Aug, 2023 @ 1:41pm
@Monkey Magic, if they don't have a leather in their info panel then something is wrong.
Monkey Magic 21 Aug, 2023 @ 11:13pm
Is this retroactive? I just murdered a bunch of insects that infested my old storage room (started with nothing, took over a cave - have since moved into houses like civilised people)

420 favourites, Sigh~ :/ *grabs the grinder*

I tried disabling them with Cherry Picker but got an error on startup, best I can do is disable them via Choose Your Recipe
SirMashedPotato  [author] 10 Nov, 2022 @ 6:15pm
@Victor, can't recall if it's Vanilla Furniture Expanded - Production, or the Framework itself, but it's one of those.
Victor 10 Nov, 2022 @ 5:53pm
I disabled all the recipes in the settings but they still show up.
SirMashedPotato  [author] 5 Nov, 2022 @ 2:46pm
@Nanoro, seeing as they already have a custom leather def, no. It'd be very simple for you to edit it yourself/make a patch.
Nanoro 5 Nov, 2022 @ 1:03pm
Hi! Could a possibly optional patch be made for "Biomes Expanded - Islands" to include crabs? As is, they drop leather, which feels a mite bit off considering they're carapaced creatures.

Also, here to say I'm very glad this mod exists, it's become a mainstay for me.
SirMashedPotato  [author] 27 Oct, 2022 @ 7:26pm
@Victor, probably wouldn't be overly difficult. The issue would be swapping to it now.
Victor 26 Oct, 2022 @ 5:22pm
I assume it's not so easy to use Vanilla's color picker for choosing the floor color, right? Have you taken a look at it?
zecond 25 Oct, 2022 @ 1:31pm
Say can you add an option for your mod to disable bones for insects? Or are the rimworld insect so broken they have exoskeleton as well as an endoskeleton.

Hey @Pants Shidding Man 56 can I ask how did you fix the issue between Medieval Overhaul and this mod?
SirMashedPotato  [author] 14 Jun, 2022 @ 4:22pm
No problemo.
Pants Shidding Man 56 14 Jun, 2022 @ 3:36pm
Looking into it further it seems to be an issue with Medieval Overhaul and its changes to the leather system.

Thanks for putting me in the right direction and for making a great mod!
SirMashedPotato  [author] 14 Jun, 2022 @ 2:41pm
@Pants Shidding Man 56, can you remove this mod and check to see what 'leather' Alpha Animals insects + black hive insects have. This mod shouldn't be overwriting the leather type already assigned to animals, it just adds chitin to appropriate animals that don't already have leather assigned.
Pants Shidding Man 56 14 Jun, 2022 @ 2:24pm
As a note, I do believe that not every AA insect drops a unique form of chitin, so its not necessarily a problem for some of them to be patched.
It's just that insects with unique chitin are being patched too.
Pants Shidding Man 56 14 Jun, 2022 @ 2:22pm
Hey thanks for the quick response!
Looking through the logs reveals that it is indeed patching AA insects

This image shows the black bugs, among others, are being patched.

That's strange that my mod seems to the having the issue even tho yours dosen't. Hopefully this isn't too hard to resolve.
SirMashedPotato  [author] 14 Jun, 2022 @ 1:47pm
@Pants Shidding Man 56, can you enable devmode, go into the mod settings menu for this mod, enable logging, and then restart the game. You'll get messages in the log after startup showing every animal that's been patched to have insect chitin. Based on my quick test there shouldn't be any Alpha Animals stuff mentioned there.
Pants Shidding Man 56 14 Jun, 2022 @ 1:28pm
So I am using this mod with Alpha Animals right now and I've noticed a potential bug.
Right now I have Alpha Animals chitin enabled in the settings and it seems to be working as intended for most all insects.

However, when slaughtering black hive insects normal AA chitin is dropped, even tho it should be dropping 'black insect chitin' from AA

If this could please be addressed that would be great, black chitin is very valuable and I hate to be missing out on it!
SirMashedPotato  [author] 19 Jun, 2021 @ 8:26pm
@VolatileGlitchAviator, idk, never used the other one. Mine just gives chitin to insects that don't already give leather or chitin. Stuff from alpha animals or Vanilla Factions Insectoids is mostly untouched. Whereas the other seems to make various balancing changes to alpha and vfe chitin.

You might want to look at the mod setting menu included in this mod to help you decide, not sure if the other includes one.
VolatileGlitchAviator 19 Jun, 2021 @ 8:18pm
would you say this is better then the other one? I am trying figure out which one does better
SirMashedPotato  [author] 19 Jun, 2021 @ 8:01pm
@VolatileGlitchAviator, one would likely overwrite the other, so most likely not.
Fossil.21 1 May, 2021 @ 1:12am
Ok I unsubbed and resubbed and it seems to be partially working now. VFE Chitin has been correctly patched to each insect, however the issue still remains that the conversions appear in the butcher's table, despite being turned off. It is not a big deal though, I am grateful you have resolved the issue with the Chitin!
SirMashedPotato  [author] 1 May, 2021 @ 12:37am
@Fossilized Sadness, make sure you are on version 3.1.3, you might need to force steam to download the update.

Are the recipes showing up when you try to create new recipes?
Fossil.21 1 May, 2021 @ 12:22am
Still not working unfortunately. It does say that the recipes were removed, but they still show up on the butcher's table. Also, same as before with Chitin drops. It patches each insect, but only assigns them 0 Chitin.
SirMashedPotato  [author] 30 Apr, 2021 @ 11:46pm
@Fossilized Sadness, should be working now.

You mentioned that toggling the recipes wasn't working? Can you check the log when starting RimWorld again, there should be a message saying the recipe users were removed for the recipes if enabled. This doesn't actually remove the recipes entirely, just stops them from showing up at crafting benches.
Fossil.21 30 Apr, 2021 @ 10:33pm
Ok, thank you for your quick responses!
SirMashedPotato  [author] 30 Apr, 2021 @ 10:31pm
@Fossilized Sadness, I'll take a look soon, might have broken something in the last update.
Fossil.21 30 Apr, 2021 @ 10:30pm
Also, I got it to partially work after a few restarts. The way I got it to work was by putting the yield amount to 100%. This allowed chitin to drop, but it did not disable the recipe conversions like I told it to and it also stopped working completely when I dropped it to 50% again.
Fossil.21 30 Apr, 2021 @ 10:28pm
Ok, nothing popped up but I went into the console and saw that it was patching it and giving them 0 chitin. This checks out because I on the info screen for insects, they are listed as chitin leather type but it doesn't have a yield amount listed, unlike the meat amount. I would post the logs, but it is giving me an error when I try to share them
SirMashedPotato  [author] 30 Apr, 2021 @ 10:20pm
@Fossilized Sadness, enable dev mode and the logging option from this mod, then restart and see if anything pops up.
Fossil.21 30 Apr, 2021 @ 10:18pm
Yes. It isn't giving me any chitin in fact, neither one nor the other.
SirMashedPotato  [author] 30 Apr, 2021 @ 10:18pm
@Fossilized Sadness, are you restarting the game after making changes?
Fossil.21 30 Apr, 2021 @ 10:11pm
seems like no matter what I do, the settings do not change anything for me. It also doesn't seem to add chitin either. i have no idea why
Mr McNificent 26 Apr, 2021 @ 1:36am
I run Rimworld of Magic too, and gotta say the chitin is great for transmuting into other stuff with an enchanter. lol
Make ALL your clothing out of it, then transmute it into something more comfortable. ;D
SirMashedPotato  [author] 25 Apr, 2021 @ 2:45pm
@Valikdu, I've added in a setting that lets you reduce the amount of chitin, and added in polished chitin tiles.
SirMashedPotato  [author] 25 Apr, 2021 @ 12:38pm
@Valikdu, I'll add in a mod setting that will let you reduce the amount butchered. Not sure about floors, but if you have Rim of Madness Bone then you can use chitin in several of those recipes.
Valikdu 25 Apr, 2021 @ 5:43am
Great mod!
The only complaint I have is that there's SO MUCH chitin. If I kill some insects after an infestation, I get inundated with TONS AND TONS OMFGWTF of it, a lot more than i know what to do with.

Could you reduce the amount butchered? And maybe add some kind of a sink like a "fine" floor for nobles that would eat up a lot of chitin for constructing.
Mr McNificent 13 Nov, 2020 @ 8:15pm
Awesome :)
SirMashedPotato  [author] 13 Nov, 2020 @ 9:52am
@Mr McNificent, just updated it, reducing commonality from 1.0 to 0.3.
Mr McNificent 13 Nov, 2020 @ 12:10am
I really want to like this, but holy shit it's making EVERYTHING be made of chitin. So many of the ruins, tables, floors, weapons, etc. The entire world is made of chitin now and I can't find any way to dial it back a bit
FallinDred 4 Nov, 2020 @ 1:30am
oof. lol. i'll just love the mod the way you make it. :P
SirMashedPotato  [author] 4 Nov, 2020 @ 12:04am
@FallinDred, I can give it a shot. If you want to remove the recipes you can always delete / edit the corresponding xml files from the patches folder.
FallinDred 3 Nov, 2020 @ 10:35pm
is there any way to make the chitin conversion recipes optional in the mod menu? thank you for making this mod so customizable. you are an awesome modder!!
