Override the vanila LCD panel and LCD panel wide because of the

But for the sake of just dressing up builds wile playing having the the decorative blocks auto lock to a surface allows us to use them on large grid for example

If all window(The Glass material) could be emissive at a distance, so as the window goes into its LOD states it uses an emissive version of the material
This is so that windows will always look lit up the further away as you start to leave the working light radius range. It would ensure that windows will always be lit in the night or blackness of space.
Up close there vanilla transparent with the real lights showing
Then the first lod state decreases the transparency and adds emissive
Till its last lod state where its fully opaque and fully emissive
And for blueprints ... no way I think.
Or else, something like "Adjustable LCDs" should be done.
Instead you can place them like real props in any 360 rotation and they lock to the surface allowing for a more organic prop placement wile still being able to fly around
Given landing gear locks without its own power and if you can set them up to not be used for parking by default then they would function invisibly just place and forget
Now if only there was a way to blueprint with connected landing gears then this would be perfect

There is a critical error in your implementation of the piston heads as decoration elements ...
* Place a vanilla piston
* Wonder why it has no piston head
* Click add piston head in its control menu
* SE crashes
The idea is brilliant to add a freely placable piston head. I had to add them via creative and copy/paste so far. Very annoying. But the survival method ( piston, merge block, grinding ) is even more a pain in the a**.
Therefore I would really welcome a free piston head
It is bearing fruits ... a little bit.
* The Suitable Ion Thruster has a little shorter collision box now here in my game. 3x2x3 instead of 3x2x4
* I am able to cover the last row of blocks of the exhaust, now. That's enough to let the ugly thing disappear
* Sadly the Suitable Atmospheric Thruster is still resisting your and my efforts ( especially yours ). The collision box is still 3x3x4.

I made a smaller bounding box on the Large Bloc Large Grid Ion and atmospheric thruster. Normally you can build around, closer for the Atmo and squarely in the nozzle of the Ionic
I have also tested for a possible conflict by using your mod in an empty world with only your mod enabled. But no luck either, sorry
Your idea is good, I think to integrate it in a future update.
They will be in parallel with the original thrusters (Like landing gears)
Do you have already a mod for these adapted thrusters uploaded ? Or are your screenshot only concept / proof of concept work ?
For your idea of thrusters, if I understood correctly it would be to be able to build around them.
It is true that reducing the BOX of the thrusters will not be bad;)

You asked for new ideas ... maybe you like this one : I was looking for "armored" large grid large thrusters ( especially the atmospheric ones ). But sadly all mods offering modified thrusters seem to be broken. If you could do the same for the large thrusters, you have done for the landing gears ... this would be awesome.

... the grid areas marked with X, there are always ugly gaps. If it would be possible to close these gaps independently ( e
g. on one side to have a nice fillet ... on the other side keeping the round ) ?
This would be even better than any armored thruster with all or nothing in the gaps.
