Not recommended. This mod makes battles a slog. Elite archers will shrug off calvary charges because of how they tweaked morale and the bonuses. Lot of weird interactions... Had a siege take almost 2 hours because infantry is incapable of dying. You can tell how broken the mod is when you run down fleeing enemies with cav at the end and they literally can't kill them.

Does this mod rework the Nanman forest mechanic? Han units get a severe stamina penalty in the southern forests.

I have to ask again, because I'm still playing only with that mod and can't feel other combat system variants in the right way.

Is there any chance that TROM and TUP will be overhauled in BARS style?
Not necessary in the fully polished and tested way, of course, but at least in somewhat playable conversion with more slow paced gameplay.

Battles can last longer, though probably not as long as DEI as the unit morale is quite fragile in BARS.

It's more that it shifts the focus of the battle away from causing casualties.


@LiusAlaguna92 Afraid not, but it won't cause issues being alongside it, but the TROM units won't be effected by my changes.

I'll admit I've not touched 3K in a while and so I'm a bit out of the loop. I really used to like UAD (as it had really good historical type battles) but I don't think its updated anymore :(

Wonderful news regarding AE, not that it's a new team per se, but that it's being further worked on....what a great overhaul. Thanks Petellius and others for such magnificent work as always. Much appreciated.

I suppose I must ask you then, given that your preferences tend to align with mine in terms of direction, features etc...Is there a mod for 3K you'd recommend that adds in more unit variety (even better would be AOR), but still is aligned with say the direction of BAR? (Assuming it'd be incompatible given additional units and what BARs does, so I have to ask for a mod recommendation, apologies)

Finally what about compatibility with the bug fix mod?

Also, very glad to see you all modding this. Ancient Empires is fantastic (one of the best TW mods I've played, and I've played most literally since the early days of the original Shogun). Wish AE was further updated, but appreciate it either way.

Loving the mod in line with what I have played in Attila with Ancient Empires. Morale is everything in this mod. Romance kind of breaks it with morale reduction/increase abilities, Infantry battles are great and cavalry is very strong, archers get few kills but cause massive morale penalties, just like in Ancient. Artillery with fire ammo is insane and lots of fun. Thanks for this great mod. Btw any chance you can overhaul the nanman slinger arcs? It kind of make my eyes bleed seeing them fire in such way. I thought the slinger barely has any arc, and by default they should be firing in a much more straight direction.

Lastly my troops will rally only after they ran a good mile away, so getting them back in the fight is near impossible (and they're always tired/winded), yet the enemy will turn around just after clearing the engagement, and then hit you with another infantry charge morale hit. So yeah, I'm playing on hard (very hard was just ridiculous) and records mode. I enjoy the challenge and I think you did a really good job with this mod, but I think it really needs work/update.

Been playing a lot more, and I really think this needs an update... You did a great job, don't get me wrong, but the rate at which your units break compared to the enemy is completely ridiculous. Cavalry is nearly useless now, because they'll stop mid-charge almost every time, regardless of bracing, and since they're almost always winded, there's no hit and run anymore. They charge, basically stop, then are completely stuck. Yet, my troops will drop in morale even if the enemy horses are literally just standing near them. I've had battles where I'm attacking the very last enemy unit (a general), and my units are constantly breaking because of the morale hits from horses in the vicinity. And again, this is the last enemy unit, yet my troops are running. I haven't even gone against the Nanman yet, but fighting a hero on an elephant was near impossible, so I have no idea how i'll beat a squad of them. Just a note, night battles only make my troops tired and not the enemy.

@Petellius I really like your mod, but it makes bow cavalry useless.

Could u strengthen white horse fellow (It acts as an elite unit but can't beat an ordinary crossbowman alone)? So that they will not be defeated in 5 seconds when facing the opponent's archer alone

Yeah that's kind of the idea, you need to focus on morale over anything else in this mod.

I know that this is asking a lot from you, but can you please make BARS overhaul for TROM? I just can't play combat without BARS, because it's brilliant and exactly what I like in tactical battles.

And I really like TROM, and their units logic and unique perks, but battles still have too fast and arcade feeling.

I removed unbreakable and gave the units and heroes that had it a morale boost (though I may have missed one or two).

Out of curiosity, what does Unbreakable do in this mod? Does it just give a morale bonus instead? I imagine that Vanilla Unbreakable would probably be game-breaking in this mod.

@Petellius Hi i got the siege ram bug, attack the gate and do 1% damage at a time. After using your mod and Bug the white tiger raider fires a Poison arrow, has no damage and is not poisoned .

Is this mod compatible with mod 1.7.1 ? In any normal battle, my units fatigue always winded to tired while the AI army always fresh.

@Atomic Gandhi I believe I already have removed the combat bonuses, or at least vastly reduced them. The AI still has morale changes based on difficulty though.

There seems to be an issue with Imperial Sword Guard units where the buff icon of "Imperial Solidarity" is spamming continuously which murders the frames and blocks out the screen.

Could you please add support for higher difficulties, by removing combat bonuses, and increasing AI morale based on difficulty?
I think this would be the best way to balance it. This way Unit on Unit combat is still logical (eg AI militia loses to player Soldier instead of winning), but the AI army becomes harder to break.

man I love this mod but running speeds are a bit too slow for me, is there a quick table edit I can change to customise and bump running speed to halfway to vanilla and bump archer damage same - halfway to vanilla?

hi @Petellius i just revist the game today, and Lv Bu's rage of Lv bu ability is stil not working. i test it with mod on and off without any mod it does work,

as long as this mod is active it doesn't deal any dmg, it even have it's moral debuff. just dont have any dmg. hopefully it's bug from my end. have you test it yourself?
