this is not a laser pointer, it's a laser cutter

I AM NO LONGER MAINTAINING MY MODS; IF YOU WISH TO TAKE OVER THIS MOD, PLEASE POST A MESSAGE IN THE COMMENTS AND I WILL GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU
Teirdalin 10 Dec, 2021 @ 12:30pm
lol, the energy usage. What are you doing?
Moustache 9 Aug, 2021 @ 1:30pm
You have the key ring version? i just need a marker to dig a strait tunnel
Kaito 8 May, 2021 @ 7:18pm
Maybe you should do some research into what a 20MW laser can do before you tell everyone to fuck off, mate.
Knuckle farmer 8 May, 2021 @ 7:06pm
I get that the energy usage is realistic so I dont see any reason to change it. Everyone else can just learn how to mod it as that was the intent.
Kaito 27 Apr, 2021 @ 3:31pm
By the way, if you want a designator for a rotor turret, Froid's script now has fixed support for using vanilla turrets as designatorsr, such as the MA Designator turret.
Kaito 27 Apr, 2021 @ 3:10pm
With a 20MW laser "pointer", we don't need any other weapons. It would cut the ship in half all by itself.
xTUx Death Lord 22 Feb, 2021 @ 9:50pm
20 MW power draw...... would of been useful if not for the power requirements to just mark a target for turret fire.
Dziwo 17 Feb, 2021 @ 3:21pm
We almost had a competent designator for WeaponCore, we were this close
Siv 28 Dec, 2020 @ 7:55pm
Agree with others. This is really cool, but as a cosmetic device it should really consume negligible power.
lord.riker 25 Nov, 2020 @ 5:11pm
I have to agree with the others. I really like this, but it takes far too much power.
Dexaldem 23 Nov, 2020 @ 10:16pm
This seriously need an update. 20 megawatts a second for a targetting laser is insanely ridiculous and wasteful. At least drop it to 2 megawatts at worst. Half a kilowatt at best.

Or, hell, allow players to adjust the range of the laser so it consumes significantly less.
BtU 22 Oct, 2020 @ 7:57am
cool mod, but please do change it to something less absurd like half a kilowatt
Veter 16 Oct, 2020 @ 11:06pm
with 20MW laser you can cut 5 meters of steel on distance of 1 meter in 2020. In 2020 laser pointer with 2 kilo watt power usage can reach moon and transmitt data with it...
If you look at military laser pointers they can target at 50-100 km (when clear view) with only 100 mili watts laser...
C R Y T I S 11 Oct, 2020 @ 7:50pm
As far as the range goes, will it work with mods that increase weapon range? I was looking for a laser that can "shoot" a ground target from orbit.
Defecticon 17 Jul, 2020 @ 11:41am
A 20MW laser can probably cleanly slice through steel. Maybe more.
shid 11 Jul, 2020 @ 8:28pm
yeah the power rating is absurd. a 10 watt laset can melt plastics and burn human skin
Molten Carnage 27 Jun, 2020 @ 3:20pm
Seriously have to question the power consumption. A 500 miliWatt laser can reach the moon IRL. The most powerful laser someone can own is a 5 Watt laser. Telescope lasers are 22 Watts. A 20 MW laser (20,000,000 Watts or 20,000,000,000 mW) is going to do massive damage to anything IRL.

It works for me.... Unsubscribe, resubscribe; if that doesnt work, please provide the log in %AppData%/Roaming/SpaceEngineers/Storage/2060182062.sbm_WeaponThread/ in the Crashes/Problems Discussion
[LP] Shadow 16 Jun, 2020 @ 4:54pm
It is installed, I got a few other WeaponCore mods in that world.
TheGoudaShoota  [author] 16 Jun, 2020 @ 4:31pm
Please make sure that you have WeaponCore subscribed and added to your world as well
[LP] Shadow 16 Jun, 2020 @ 2:34pm
Doesn't work for me - No beam there. And I guess the terminal souldn't offer the functionality of a conveyor sorter?
[DKS] Killaim 3 Jun, 2020 @ 5:16am
was thinking something like this for when you were docking.
a laser pointed from one dockingport to another. so when you looked from cameras or just viewing it you had a easier reference point for moving into place.
TheGoudaShoota  [author] 2 Jun, 2020 @ 12:15am
Ideally it'd have a falloff.. Light continues on 'infinitely', just disperses, so, 35km is 'fine' just that it should be a faded 35km. idk... the use case I had for this had a long beam length. I'll see about making some additional variants maybe, but its not high on my priority list atm as I just finished a major release of Hazard Mechanics
ExCaedibus 1 Jun, 2020 @ 10:11pm
Honestly, 35km is rather extreme, even for something like a targeting laser. And as a planetary beacon is probably has the length of the moon's diameter or something. THis is the only thing that makes it awkward to use. Could this be toned down a bit, like maybe 10 or 5 km? Weaponcore weapons all have specificly fitting ranges set if I am not mistaken, I am sure that could be done for this laser as well, that would really be great!
TheGoudaShoota  [author] 2 May, 2020 @ 10:56pm
It is not adjustable, I'm not sure thats anything WC could do
Dragon Crisis Core 2 May, 2020 @ 8:44pm
Is beam length adjustable trying to design a ship around the idea of a self contained photon thruster so a beam of light that is adjustable would be epic to display photon pressure.
TheGoudaShoota  [author] 26 Apr, 2020 @ 2:00am
You can make one yourself if you want that. WeaponCore is worth using
8vantor8 25 Apr, 2020 @ 2:52pm
Could we get a version that does not need weaponcore?
TheGoudaShoota  [author] 22 Apr, 2020 @ 11:12am
Yes, there is a small block version, and same range
ExCaedibus 22 Apr, 2020 @ 3:28am
Can someone please say if this has a small block too and whether the range is the same?
Bikko 16 Apr, 2020 @ 7:33am
gps marker would be so cool
FifthPegasus 14 Apr, 2020 @ 9:07pm
Can you make this output a GPS marker for a target that is pointed at for a period of time?
Like takes 5 seconds of pointing to return a GPS marker of the Targed Voxel or Grid?
