Hi Storpapa, thanks I saw bits of yesterday's stream as well, so I'm glad she's been working well for you :)

Thanks Spite for your great work!
We built our 1st Hercules, Cool Runnings, in orbit over Triton and flew it to the surface as a lander and explorer vessel
After many mods including 2 trailers, more construction, more weapons, and a massive drilling rig, we had to let her go.

We couldn't leave Triton without her replacement: Cool Runnings II

In the videos we go over the build, and take it on a Search & Rescue mission across Triton spanning the entire planet.

Yup, if I remember right, I made the Hercules series before the Mk3 and Mk4 miners.

At some point I'll get around to doing new set of miner carriers

love the rover only down side i see is the mk3 tunnel miners are so close to fitting in there nice just have to extend it by like 2 bloks

So I just checked, and the Harpy can't lift it, but he pegasus definitely can!

Probably still better to the build the flying version though

Out of curiosity, is your "Harpy" series of tugs capable of lifting this series of mega-rovers? I know you're carting around the big green freighter in the screenshots, but I think this rover looks bigger. And especially Earthlike has a nasty habit of having pretty big chunks of the landscape blocked with mountains just steep and jagged enough to rip the guts out of anything with wheels.

Then again, maybe it's just cheaper to build one of the variants that can actually fly. o.O

Thanks! I really should update this and add some parachute hatches though

Rock solid design. I dropped this thing (empty) from orbit and I only lost the two back wheels. No parachutes or anything!

I almost went directly for the atmospheric version. I probably could have gotten away with that. I definitely have the materials lying around to make it happen and I might still go down that route. To be had, driving down the mountain is going to rough.

I understand what you are saying there. It's likely that my own will have a rather short life as a rover. The goal right now is essentially to drive enough materials to a nearby lake to setup an outpost, get a fuelling station setup and then ship out in orbit. My current base is likely going to get abandoned. It's on a mountain. The only reason I built there is that's where I landed, and there's an iron cobalt nickle deposit quite literally 10 meters under. It just made sense to refine what I needed to startup there.

Sure, go for it! I basically designed the interior function blocks + hangar, then built the ship around it. However I would also like to say that the reason it only has one large container is that is how much the Atmo version could lift in gravity, so that you could take it into space for Uranium/platinum and back.

Apart from that specific mission the idea is to use it as a mining outpost and have drones move the cargo back and forth, so driving around with a full cargo wasn't really top priority.

I will eventually get around to making improved versions (this was my first attempt at a mining carrier), but I'm focusing on the SG stuff at the moment.

I tested this rover in creative. My one big critic is that it flips rather easily. The problem is the location of the cargo. It's high up close to the rear which is what generates the rollover condition. I've decided to build a large portion of the shell, but redesign large parts of the rover for my own use. The ideal location for that cargo container is down low near the center of mass which puts it right where the hangar is right now, so that's going to require some thinking...
