there actually is a function in place built to move things around, but whenever i save and leave the edit mode the list just acts like i never used it. so that's cool.

aarrrg well that was an accident. nice catch though! will add it in next time i update it. you see its not so easy to update this list cause to have everything in the right order, i have to remove everything and and add everything back in order; i must have missed something when adding things back. It's basically why i don't update this list immediately when a new gripfly map comes out.

Hm, what happened to Escape the Cubes?

yeaup. augur brutal mode pretty much makes mobra look like a sunday walk in the park.

Oh dear the list got an entry after Mobra now...

No problem man. Glad I could help. Also, your path actually might be easier and faster than the one I take. I might try to set a time with it in the future.

Between the smoothing setting (1 tick lower) and jumping on the third ledge I managed to get bronze. Silver is at 12 minutes... ugh, guess I'll try that next :D TYVM for the tips!

Thanks a lot for the thorough explanation! I do have that setting in the middle, didn't even know it existed. I'll try the lowering it, hopefully what muscle memory I have doesn't go in the trash right away.

I was hoping my path is somehow flawed, as I can pull it off probably once in an hour, and that after warming up. I'll definitely try jumping from the 3rd mini-ledge, not sure why it hasn't occurred to me. Probably because I reach it so rarely :D

Guess I'll just have to put quite a few more hours in; I thought I'm doing something very wrong. On the bright side, most other tracks seem like a breeze after Reaga.

Its also really nice to have the difficulty sorting here, since some of the Backgrounds' tracks start off very mildly and then turn into a real nightmare at some point :)

5: Most of everything else is practice. (Fun fact: Backgrounds' favorite quote is "Practice.", said by himself. It's often referenced in the distance discord as a means to tell other players to "get gud" when they complain about something being too difficult.) You probably already know practice is inevitable and necessary, but it's just one of those things you gotta say.

As far as front twists go, I think doing them at that point in reaga is more difficult, but there have been others who say that it makes it easier. Really, if you aren't used to front twists it will probably be harder. Currently, I think no map requires front twists, and they are usually used to just do things faster rather than easier. They are nice to learn though. What I did to learn them was to try and do a front twist every time I would otherwise barrel roll (on far easier maps than reaga that is), and eventually I got the hang of it.

As far as a video tutorial goes, I... might actually do that.

4: It's funny, just two weeks ago I discovered Backgrounds' himself always had his digital input smoothing set to default middle, which may explain a lot of things. This probably isn't a miracle cure to all your problems, but it should help out quite a bit in the long run.

Second: as far as camera control goes, you can either control the camera by controlling your velocity (the camera always points in the direction of your velocity), or get used to weird camera angles, being able to tell where platforms are when they aren't completely on screen or seen at the perfect angle. Both of course take practice, but learning to control the camera with you velocity is probably the easier one to learn. In the end you probably will use both to your preferred extent, but hopefully it gives something to work towards.

3: Any lower though and it becomes too sensitive to benefit from (at least as far as gripfly goes; if a map is made up of only tight turns for example, setting it all the way to the left will allow you to make such turns much tighter). However, I recommenced setting it one increment below the default middle first, and then only after you get used to that, setting it two increments below the default middle. It might take a bit to get used to, but it's worth it, trust me. (There is a benefit from setting digital input smoothing above the default middle, but there's only one map where I've found this helpful: Nonsense 7. Essentially, having it set high makes it easier to gripfly and drive without moving to left or right at all. This may seem helpful in levels like reaga where there are killgrid walls on either side, but it only really becomes beneficial in the extreme cases where even 1/5 a car length in either direction spells doom).

2: What this does specifically is kind of complicated. The best way I can explain it is it controls the sensitivity of thrusters, wings, and on-ground turning. The farther the bar is to the left, the more sensitive these things get, and the farther to the right, the less sensitive. For example, with the bar set all the way to the left, you can make tighter turns on the ground than you can with it set to the middle. If you play with it, you will see that the bar only moves in fixed increments, that is, you can't just set it to any value between the maximum and minimum possible. Through experience, I've found that setting the bar two increments below default gives the most benefit. Since the sensitivity there is higher, than at the default middle, you have more control over your thruster movement. Through testing, I've found this setting works best both for complex gripfly maneuvers and speed.

1: First off, holy heck good job on beating reaga. Not only have few people ever beaten it, but there hasn't been a new finisher of reaga for over 6 months since Tribow beat it. Congrats!

Hm, your approach seems fine. The only thing I would do differently would be to jump off of the second to last small platform (the one at 0:37 in your video) so you can go back faster to the next platform. Yea that is the hardest part of reaga and definitely was the hardest part to master. There are two big pieces of advice I can offer.

First, judging by the way your gripflight looks, it seems you have your digital input smoothing set to the default middle. What is digital input smoothing? If you go under Options > Controls, there will be a slide bar labeled "Digital Input Smoothing" in the bottom left. While what this bar is set to has no effect on controller users, it does on keyboard player (such as you and I).

So to answer your questions, i'm going to post 5 more comments labeled with a number at the start. The comments are meant to be read in increasing number order. I have to do this because there is a lot to say and comments have to be less than 1000 characters each.

Do you have any tips for reaching the 2nd to last checkpoint in Reaga? I've put hours of practice at it and while I see great results on other tracks, I don't have a feeling I'm getting better at those tiny ledges. I constantly bash into the side kill grids, misjudge the landing or get too careful with the boost and so lose to much momentum.

I see dreifachpunkt doing front twists, should I try practice this? It feels well beyond what I can do though. I've watched other replays, your included, but it just looks like magic in the replay. ("Distance - Reaga Part 5" on YouTube is my upload, for the path I'm trying to do with little success)

Also have you considered doing an advanced-advanced grip-flight tutorial? The one from Brionac is great, but I feel for the Rise/Risen map set from Backgrounds' maybe some extra tips exist. In particular angles at which to grip-flight upward (with thrusters) and some semblance of camera control while doing stuns for regen.

Yes. It gets more difficult the farther down the list the level is.
Hotride 29 May, 2020 @ 11:28am
Thanks for the list. Is it sorted by difficulty?
