Mod seems broken with the recent release of Tokugawa, in the sense that both the Dojo and the Electronics Factory are now accessible, you might want to look into that

I'm curious why you decided to put this in the theatre district and replace the art museum. My immediate thought upon seeing it was "Oh this replaces the barracks and gives some kind of culture bonus like when a unit is produced you get culture or something".

Genuinely just curious about the design philosophy behind this.

Made a small update, this mod no longer removes the Electronics Factory, bringing it in line with my (long-term) plans to give each civ a 2nd unique infrastructure. Also, the Industry Expansion ended up incorporating the Electronics Factory just fine, so that did not turn out to be an issue anyway.

Speaking of which, have you thought of contacting Albro and using one of his Korea Campus or VIetnam Encampment pics for your Dojo mod? That would be super kool.

Alternatively, I know an asset that might work for you. It was a unique building that had cherry blossom trees blowing their leaves all around. Very nicely done. It came from one of the civ's (or city states) in the Anno Domini series. I was playing this really attractive lady with dark hair and her troops were quite badass. That's all I can remember. Well, maybe a green top, somehwhat unbuttoned, revealing an impressive....inheritance.

At a minimum you could just color the vanilla building in something appropriate, like rising sun red.

Would this be compatible with Radiant's new Japan Civ rework mod?

Btw, if you haven't seen it, check it out. Thematically it is what Japan should be (and there are quite a few very smart additions and subtractions, boosts and limitations -- I actually think it's ripe for a unique Governor as well) and your mod here actually ties in perfectly.

Also, if you had any suggestions or leads for 3D art for him, that'd be great. I just suggested Albro's stuff, but those may have been commissioned and unavailable. These things are beyond me. As is the fact that, coincidentally, he dropped his badass mod on my birthday. What a nice present from the heavens.

I'm currently playing a game with UC + City Lights and the Dojo replaced the Cabinet/Mansion instead of Art Museum, but it also blocks the Archaeology Museum, so it's literally impossible to build the Archaeology Museum. Might be a bug in the City Lights Compatibility mod?

Downloaded this cause it just makes more sense for Japan to have a Dojo as its unique building 👌

Also it’s far more iconic when average people who don’t know history think about Japan (also if we’re gonna acknowledge the reality, South Korea, Taiwan, and even China have also been huge innovators when it comes to electronics)

your mod has been translated into German by Junky and the translation is now part of the Civilization VI Mods - German translations mod pack.

Hello JNR, I don't know if this issue has been reported already but in my latest game I noticed that loading my save all the 3D models of Dojos built before saving and reloading disappeared from the Theatre Squares, but if i built new ones i could see only the new ones but not the old ones. I was using all Districts Expansions, Dojo, City Styles and a bunch of other mods (mainly new wonders, gameplay mods, environment skin and vegetation).

Could you maybe make the Dojo replaces the armory instead? So that it's actually worth building in a domination game for the fact that japan is a good military civ. with some tweaks of course.

Hi JNR ! The method to have both Dojo and EF doesn't work anymore with your super District Expansion: Theater. Any easy fix ? :)

it's not auto-themed. It cannot be themed at all. That downside is there to cover for the variety of bonuses on the building. The Faith bonus represents martial arts as a modern sport and the way it reflects on athleticism as a spiritual experience.

Cool mod, but don't we think that's at least one too many bonuses. I mean a free extra Writing Slot (highly coveted) is great, as well as, the auto theme-ing full yield bonus. The +1 production per Great Work in the city is borderline too much, but most of it comes from later in the game anyways, so not a big deal for a mod, but also how do you think building in a different district should effect building's yields in another district. Plus, the combat modifier, isn't it all a bit much? I am not "ripping on you", I actually like all the bonus, but I feel it should be a pick and choose, then use the other bonuses as part of the leader or civ bonuses, then balance it out so it's not too OP comparing to other Vanilla Civs. :)

This is a good idea. Japan had its culture long before electricity was invented, so the Dojo is a better representation of that and feels more unique.

Nice mod, just one request. Since dojos existed in Japan during the Middle Ages, so could the building be unlocked at either Divine Right, Mercenaries or Feudalism (I suggest Divine Right the most since its the most spiritual of them and it unlocks the Kotoku-In, a temple in Japan). Thanks!

I know you probably don't much care, but I just wanted to say that this general idea would work much better if you just renamed the "Dojo" to a "Kabuki Theater" focused on Musicians and Great Works of Music instead of Art.

You could have made it as a 3rd choice alongside the museums and maybe even added some neat compatibility with the Real Great Musicians mod, having it replace the "Concert Hall" when enabled and whatnot...

Anyway, the model is amazing and the general idea behind it is great too.

looking at this I was worried about losing production but I think this has enough bonuses to make up for losing electronic factories. I will probibly add both because that sounds more fun. It would be nice if there was an alt mod that did it for you but its nice that you told us how to do it.

I dunno if those saying 'electronics factories are crucial to Japan' have a valid argument. The same thing could be said about Korean chaebols or the world's first actual electronics factory by Nokia in New Jersey. I assume JNR is going to make the electronics factory accessible to all other nations in some future mod. And that would make the EF building more reasonable as a concept. I doubt Japan's image will be discredited by having the dojo replace something that could be attributed to any other nation.

I wrote this for a reason. I know many of you have different ideas about what the building should be. You're free to pursue those ideas on your own. Unless someone throws a bunch of scholarly arguments at me for why my design is misrepresenting in a harmful way, I'm not gonna change it. I also said why the Electronics Factory is removed and anyone who wishes to reactivate it can follow the instructions above. I don't really plan to discuss this further.

i think the dojo should placed on military slot that gives maby +1culture or +1 military graet person or somthing like that. the electronics factory is a need to japan culture .

We can even when it's a Theater Square building. It could be anything tbh. It could even be a Holy Site building. In the end I chose the Theater Square because I wanted to integrate that district more into Hojo's trinity of districts and increase the interaction between all three. Besides, the pink cherry trees fit the color scheme of the Theater Square best and I think they're simply pretty, so this way I felt everything ended up together the best.

The reason I need to get rid of the Electronics Factory is because my IZ rework will use that model for a generic Factory upgrade. The reason I ended up removing the EF with this mod as well is balance. Japan is already very strong, so two UB would be ridiculous. I described above how to reactivate it.

What if the Dojo was part of the encampment district? Couldn't we keep both electronics factory and this together? Just a thought.

not sure if all descriptions in the civ selection screen will be accurate, but ingame it should not conflict, yes. It was not balanced for Civilizations Expanded, but Japan being strong already I don't think that's a big issue. Plus, the building is fairly strong.

see the info at the bottom. I deactivated it through only very few lines, I did not delete anything from the database. That should make it easy for other mods to reactivate it and assign it to a leader trait without issues.

I added instructions for how to re-activate it normally to the description.
