As far as the items retexture goes I'd go with the new ones.
The thing is, I don't want the textures that blend with vanilla for something that's in itself so alien to vanilla. Your old ones stand out with all that extra detial, and IMHO, that's a good thing for this mod - they give it character.
Dunno what's on the technical side of all of this (less details = better performance?) but by visuals only, no offense, I see your new ones as a downgrade.

I personally would love to see a slight rework of some workbenches, containers, etc. (in future updates), that still don't have the "vanilla style".
This is just my feedback, nothing more, nothing less, and maybe you're already working on it (and I might have missed it somewhere) :D
