If you truly want to step up realism, think not of the zombies, but your fellow survivors . They can take so much more shots than zombies can! Why not up the ante by making shots to your fellow survivors hurt them as much as they do zombies? Perhaps if you shot a teammate enough, they would instead DIE rather than be incapacitated?
I just thought I'd put out my thoughts,
But, if we have to compare them to anything close, whacked out crack addicts might do. Realistically, taking down a crack addict can be hard when he's running straight at you. A shot to the head will more than likely finish him, whereas body/arm/leg shot will only make him angrier and possibly slow him down-- but with enough body shots, you can still kill him. So all this nonsense about only a headshot being able to take out a zombie, who pursues you much like an angry crack addict, completely ridiculous. (cont)
