actually nevermind I will switch to roof bomb
szmtex 19 Jul @ 9:33am
What the heck happened to this mod Im drilling for like 10 days and there is something lik 30 percent progress and my screen is full of stone chunks... had you slowed it down or sthg?

As it is its kinda useless drilling through room equivalent would most likely take several ingame years

Love you, Mlie. <3
Monkey Magic 24 Mar, 2024 @ 3:58am
Hmm, I guess that also means the rest of the map will not be reduced to thin rock roof then. That's cool, I'll check it out
Mlie  [author] 24 Mar, 2024 @ 3:25am
@Monkey Magic This only affects roof in a one cell radius. There is no cave in risk.
Monkey Magic 24 Mar, 2024 @ 2:24am
I have seen a couple other mods that achieve this, and they convert the overhead mountain to thin rock roof. However this affects the entire map, which is probably not the best idea as this will stop infestations, and allow shit to fall through from above.

So, does this mod only affect the area one is targeting? I'd like to open out a section of mountain to the sky as it half covers a wind turbine, but I do not want the whole map to be thin rock roof.

Also curious is this can cause cave-ins while mining. I feel this should be an applied risk to the task at hand

I don't know how much work it would be to add, but it would be nice if there was a way to designate an area for mountain mining, that way if you're clearing an area smaller than 3×3 you can place the drill and not need to worry about pawns drilling an over large area, or the order the drill clears meaning that it clears somewhere extraneous first, and possibly even enabling pawns to automatically move drills around to clear areas once the current location is fully cleared.

Either way, I really like the mod; it enables really nice deep mountain bases, especially combined with a skylight mod.
GwinnBleidd 30 Aug, 2023 @ 10:56am
awesome, thanks a lot, you are the best!
Mlie  [author] 30 Aug, 2023 @ 10:55am
@GwinnBleidd I see, should be fixed now
GwinnBleidd 30 Aug, 2023 @ 10:27am
to clarify DeadlyFISHYS's post (as I assume i have the same issue), tunneller mechanoids don't drill using mountain miners. They go towards them, start drilling and immediately stop, switching to wandering status.
Mlie  [author] 26 Aug, 2023 @ 6:00am
@DeadlyFISHYS It should use the standard mining skill so I assume so
Svartarokkdreki 26 Aug, 2023 @ 4:13am
Can the tunneller mechanoids from biotech use the mountain drills?
Mlie  [author] 24 Aug, 2023 @ 1:07pm
@DeadlyFISHYS Not sure I understand the question?
Svartarokkdreki 24 Aug, 2023 @ 11:21am
Is it possible to get tunnellers to drill on these?
Jerry Helldiver, Attorney at Law 17 Jun, 2023 @ 5:46pm
Spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out why this wasn't working. The miner would remove the "Overhead mountain" but the tile would still read "Rock roof (thin)". The thin rock roof was actually a regular roof that I had to mark for removal. Finally figured it out due to a comment below. Hope this info helps anyone else dealing with this.
Doktober 15 Apr, 2023 @ 9:37am
just what I needed thank you
CTH2004 6 Apr, 2023 @ 8:58am
"the roof auto-collapsed every time before I went looking for this mod lmao... THANK YOU!"

if it did it while searching, that's what pause is for!

also, as neat as this is, I'll stick with pillars. I use mountains to protect me from Drop Pods and Mortors, which this kinda invalidates...
Beaver 8 Jan, 2023 @ 5:25am
I just mined the same collapsed rock 4 times as the roof auto-collapsed every time before I went looking for this mod lmao... THANK YOU!
ericHNI 25 Aug, 2022 @ 5:17pm
@Mlie Thanks. Yeah the colonists mining skill was too low. The mountain miner works as intended. Thank you for hard work!
Victor 25 Aug, 2022 @ 4:48pm
@ericHNI The roof is probably being converted to regular roof and needs to be assigned for removal.
Mlie  [author] 25 Aug, 2022 @ 2:41pm
@ericHNI Depends on your colonist mining skill and the amount of overhead roof
ericHNI 25 Aug, 2022 @ 12:14pm
Okay so I'm mining for days and no sign of roof removal. Is this behavior normal? Thanks.
Mlie  [author] 28 Jul, 2022 @ 1:37pm
@Victor Sure, seems reasonable
Victor 27 Jul, 2022 @ 1:57pm
Can you move the research to Industrial? It doesn't make sense for Tribals to research drilling machines...
sayon 16 Feb, 2022 @ 9:35pm
@BoostHungry did it work?
Festivejelly 13 Jan, 2022 @ 5:48am
@Mlie thanks just saw that just before you typed it thanks, im blind as a bat :)
Mlie  [author] 13 Jan, 2022 @ 5:47am
@Festivejelly Its unlocked by researching "mountain mining". The miner is found under production
Mlie  [author] 12 Dec, 2021 @ 1:15pm
@Bob Ðigital Yes, it will remove mountain-roofs: "Allows for rock roof removal and produces chunks in the process."
Kenpa 12 Dec, 2021 @ 12:34pm
This may come off as a stupid question, but does this eventually remove the mountain's "roof"? Meaning, it'll let the warm sunshine hit my wonderful face, or... I don't know... let me setup some raider killing mortars from deep within the mountain? Hmmm? Thanks for the update.
Mlie  [author] 26 May, 2021 @ 9:57pm
@BoostHungry Not tested as I dont use that mod
BoostHungry 26 May, 2021 @ 9:19pm
Does this work with the multiplayer mod?
Jake, From Allstate, at 3am 16 Mar, 2021 @ 2:05pm
Ah, I see. Crank the bar up to max for the least amount of chunks. Perhaps update to make it more intuitive? A simple (more chunks) (less chunks) at either end would be excellent. But don't let me tell you how to run your mod. :)
Mlie  [author] 15 Mar, 2021 @ 3:16am
@Jake, From Allstate, at 3am As previously mentioned there is a setting for how many chunks you want spawning.
Jake, From Allstate, at 3am 15 Mar, 2021 @ 3:08am
wtf am i supposed to do with 500 chunks?
Mlie  [author] 2 Mar, 2021 @ 5:16am
@dnecro Update? Its already updated to 1.2
dnecro 2 Mar, 2021 @ 4:05am
any update of this? I love this mod.
[IX] Linarielle 16 Feb, 2021 @ 6:27am
just after i finished to cleaning the thousand of chunk of my map lol thank you for it ^^
Morloc 15 Feb, 2021 @ 7:35pm
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you!

I cranked your setting all the way up and got only two chunks with completing the drilling of one square. That seems just about ~perfect~!

You are awesome!

-Morloc
Magicthize 15 Feb, 2021 @ 12:21pm
Yay! Thanks for the update.
Mlie  [author] 15 Feb, 2021 @ 12:15pm
@Morloc @Mr-Bandit There should now be a setting for how often chunks will spawn. Its still randomised but the setting changes the randomisation-range.
Hope this helps!
Morloc 15 Feb, 2021 @ 11:53am
Aye, but even with a 20 Miner using other enhancements, you're still looking at well over 100 chucks when doing a 3x3.
It's good that it's difficult to remove mountains, but the chunk management is a bit too much. :\
Mr-Bandit 13 Feb, 2021 @ 11:02pm
in the old days you could reduce the number of chunks by having an expert do the mining, the length of time drilling was the trigger for chunks. not sure if that still applies...
Morloc 13 Feb, 2021 @ 8:14pm
Hi Mlie, I've been using this mod since waaay back, and do seem to remember it takes an ungodly amount of time to clear all 9 squares above the miner. I presumed this was the balance to being able to remove thick roofs. The problem has always been the way-too-many chunks that this process generates.

Is there anything that can be done to reduce them? Reducing chunks by a factor of 50 (just a guess) might be about right if you consider the rate you can get chunks from a deep drill.

Given the choice, I'd say stopping chunks entirely would be better that what the thing does now.

Thanks,

-Morloc
Magicthize 5 Feb, 2021 @ 11:25am
@Mlie Awesome. Make sure you remember to get some sleep between making/maintaining/updating all the mods! :D
Mlie  [author] 5 Feb, 2021 @ 10:09am
@Magicthize Ill add it to my todo-list
Magicthize 5 Feb, 2021 @ 9:11am
@Mlie I've tested it on a new colony and it does seem to clear the nearby tiles as well. Just takes a long time (at least with the rando pawns I used). I'll go back and try it again with my main save.

Would it be too cheeky to ask for some options to let the player customise how long it takes and how many chunks you can get? ;) Time is less of an issue than me seemingly drowning in chunks. I'd understand if my colony was under a mountain but I'm just trying to clear out a small hill about 20 blocks across.

Appreciate the mod either way.
Mlie  [author] 5 Feb, 2021 @ 8:44am
@Magicthize Not sure, but the skylights mod have conflicted with other thickroof changing mods
Magicthize 5 Feb, 2021 @ 8:37am
Dammit I hope it's not a mod conflict! I'll have a look then. It just seems like they do the first tile super quick and then just generate infinite chunks after that without doing any more. Hmm. Will give it a try again. The only other mod I *think* I'm running that does anything with roofs is Dub's Skylights. Should it matter where this appears in the load order?
Mlie  [author] 5 Feb, 2021 @ 8:21am
@Magicthize In my tests it removes roof in all the 9 tiles. You might have a mod conflict or not waited long enough perhaps
Magicthize 5 Feb, 2021 @ 8:03am
I think the way this mod works is misleading. It shows a 3x3 area of effect, but the roof itself is only removed from the tile above the tool. I was very confused by how long it was taking to remove the overhead mountain til it twigged that I have to move it after every tile is complete which potentially involved a *ton* of micromanagement.

What I think would be good is if it worked like the deep drill and affected the 3x3 area until complete then stopped. If you wanted to retain the ability to mine the roof for infinite chunks (which seems a bit silly to me) it would be better to have it as a toggleable option when you've got the tool selected.
