Could you make a variation of this mod that ADDS the smaller bench rather than REPLACES the existing one, please?

I dunno, tested it and it works just fine. Try putting my mod bellow "Do your F***ing research".

VE Textures Variants uses (6x2) vanilla sized textures which renders incorrect on (3x1) sized object. So it is indeed incompatible.

There's a soft incompatibility with VE Textures Variants, in that the stuff on top of the bench gets all squishy and distorted. Doesn't hurt anything, just looks kinda funny because the two mods do different things.

Smaller benches are perfect for SOS2 runs. Combine these with the tiny workbenches mod and you can fit more stuff in your ship.

It would p funny if he made the advanced research bench the size of regular research table in vanilla rimworld just mess with people... "Like it is smaller no? That's what you wanted yeah!? >:3c" But ye I think a 3x1 version of that bench would be cool too :>
