For balancing reasons, I rather keep this as semi auto but I do understand what you mean.
Believe it or not, SMGs are the easiest guns to make. That is why you see so many rebels with cheap, stamp metal SMGs
And if you can make an SMG out of a pipe, some bolts and a few auto parts, you can make a carbine fully auto
Carbines can be full auto, they don't have to be semi auto. The M4a1 is a carbine, a glock with a Roni kit is a carbine, if you have a desert eagle with a 12 inch barrel and stock, it's a carbine. Hell, a Kalashnakov USA Vityaz carbine can be automatic if you take the parts from an actual vityaz and throw into it. The AK74U is a carbine, though the SSSR classified it as an "SMG" due to the role it served.
It's based on the Sterling, but it's not an SMG
