Given that they also receive any bonuses to thane recruitment level I'd suggest the latter option, with a factionwide bonus attached to the Bugman's Brewery landmark.
I went to check because I'm subbed to the SFO submod but it has been deleted.
Does that Bugmans Brewhouse or whatever building give any bonuses to the ranks of Brewmasters?
You're talking about Dwarfs of Karak Eight Peaks. That one adds your unit.
I am using that 'The Hammer of Grungni' mod, which adds in a new Hero: The 'Dignitary'/'Shadow Hunter'. This seems to 'push' the Brewmaster of the list of recruitable Hero Types, as I can't see the brewmaster anywhere. I also don't see any arrows to switch to see more heroes (like I think the Scaven have).
No idea if this could be added by this mod or not.
Maybe i need to start a new campain?
The autoresolve nooking may be becouse the unit has no melee CP in main_units_tables so the game thinks it is COMPLETELY worthelss in melee, unable to protect itself up the melee CP to 250-300 and reduce the ranged to 250-200 to blaance it out, the dude is better in melee anyway.
Bugmans Ale does work for all units please fix this as well.

I set them to elite and it seemed to fix the issue. Not sure if that's what you did.
But one little issue... they suck up ALL the damage in autoresolve. Like I can autoresolve a stupid clean up fight, and get one single casualty, the brewmaster. Make sure you got them labeled as ranged so they dont tank all the damage. Cuz I hate having to play every fight no matter how mundane just because the brewmaster will die if I dont.
Almost all dwarf faction can recruit Brewmaster in campaign.
I do some fix, it shouldn't have problem now.
