I responded in the bug report thread a while back. You have a mod compatibility issue.

@cybvep It's a condition you repeat for every single lord in game so no, it is absolutely horrendous. With any other faction once you tier up you have access to all your fancy toys with all your lords permanently. That is not the case with a vow system, therefor delaying it even further makes it practically unplayable. Bretonnia's economy does not support peasant army spams. There's a limit to how many peasant armies you can field without breaking their economy. Also it's not how bretonnia suppose to play neither from a lore perspective or tabletop. They're all about fielding knights.

It seems that the Vow is not working to complete the construction.

50 turns? That's barely mid-game O_o. Many factions don't have access to the end-game units by this point, especially not tier 5 ones. Exceptions may be Skaven (instant tier V cities thanks to food) and post-rework Beastmen. Not exactly great recommendations when it comes to balancing...

Also, lack of supply lines alone make Bretonnia one of the strongest factions in the game. Not to mention very easy confederations which allow for unification in the first 50 turns or so.

All in all, "this would make bretonnia by far the worst playable faction in the game. " is a huge overstatement IMO.

@ Cybvep The issue is that every single lord will need more than 50 turns of gameplay to access almost half of the roster and all the end game units. That's a pretty big debuff. This would make bretonnia by far the worst playable faction in the game. Sorry to say that even though it's a good attempt at making the vows more interesting this does not cut it for me. Unless you're using some redicilous power mod for grail units this is kind of ridicilous. Bretonnia does not need more debuffs.

Screen shot was useful, thanks. And your mods shouldn't be a problem...
Question, was Daith killed in battle or did he escape? the pledge only triggers when a lord is killed + the battle is won. That means a stack wipe counts, but if the enemy army escaped with the lord alive - it won't count as progress for the vow.
Also just to be sure: you did select the pledge before, right?

Edit: Just opened a separate thread for discussing bug reports, so let's continue there

I just did the test you mentioned and Louen starts will all vows unlocked, so no problem there. I use some other Bretonnian mods:
- Animated Banner for Repanse, Chivalric Replenishment (Reupload),
- unit mods: Knights of Fracasse (unit cap 2), Knights of Gaudaron for Bretonnia - Definite Edition, Knights of Montlanc the Monster Hunters for Bretonnia, Knights of the Light (unit cap 4) (with custom helmet)
- Green Knight actual protector of Bretonnia
- [ME] Bretonnian Vassals

I can provide the whole mod-list if necessary.

Potato Meister: Yes, vows still effect unit upkeep. The balance implications were intentional.
ori  [author] 13 Sep, 2021 @ 6:12am
That's odd. I know what's causing the Rakarth bug in vanilla - CA never bothered to update the vow script since the Prophet and the Warlock DLC. Also Grom is missing in vanilla, by the way. But that was all fixed here... Any more details on your battle so I can recreate the bug? Maybe another mod that could cause a compatibility problem?

Regarding the compatibility issue, this is the easiest way to check: Start a campaign with Louen and check if he starts with his vows unlocked. If not, then there is a mod compatibility problem.

Report: my lord defeated Daith during siege defence of Castle Carcassonne, but this defeat wasn't registered as part of Claim the Wild vow.

In Vanilla there was a similar issue with defeating Rakarth not registering as part of the defeat 2 DE LLs vow. These sort of annoyances can make playing Bretonnia frustrating because their core mechanics (vows) can semi-randomly just not trigger.
cybvep 12 Sep, 2021 @ 5:06am
How is that an issue? You can use Questing Knights and Knights of the Realm just fine.
Gabe 12 Sep, 2021 @ 4:03am
Interesting. Does the vows still affect unit upkeep because I can see a huge issue with this if it'll take 50 turns to unlock grail units.

Updated :)
ori  [author] 31 May, 2021 @ 12:30pm
My original plan was to make an update when the new (and last) DLC comes out. Then I can make a proper update, since I'm anyway not planning on getting WH3...
In other words I plan to support this mod for a while. That also includes SFO compatibility you asked for a while back ago, which is still on my to do list.
Crassie Wassie 31 May, 2021 @ 11:26am
Aye so playing the old save game with it reset everybodies vows including louens. I'm not surprised but :steamsad:
i'm surprised my save didn't just grow wings and fly away so I guess that's better than nothing but nahh I guess rakarth isn't very legendary lmao
certainly not legendary enough to fulfill chillfroy's questing vow
i honestly dont know why I didn't use this mod in the first place
also thank you bby for updating for me ;0
I'll tell my friends to get this mod

ori  [author] 30 May, 2021 @ 9:43pm
wait, noooooooo
What you mentioned is exactly the kind of small details that won't work because I haven't updated the mod XD
I guess even CA are too lazy to update the vow script when new updates release...
See if the mod is compatible with your save, and if it is, leave a comment and I'll try to throw Rakarth in there just for you ;-)
Crassie Wassie 30 May, 2021 @ 4:25pm
Damn lmao
I was playing a Louen Campaign and I used Chillfroy to kill Rakarth I felt all cool and stuff and then the vow didn't succeed imediately switching to this mod I hope to god I can still use that save though I was having fun

I have dabbled in the vow script recently, there’s a part called “function add_starting_vows” and mentions the 2 keys for the starting vows but I’ve tried editing it but nothing works sadly.
ori  [author] 10 Mar, 2021 @ 12:36pm
1. Shouldn't be any problem editing vows without adding new ones.
2. Starting vows are determined in the first lines of the vow script.
3. I recommend asking for scripting advice in the modding community Discord server, since I myself am in a position similar to yours (no background in programing - just a lawyer :S).
The Discord can be found by a quick Google search, and the people over there are very friendly and helpful. Also they have guides that were very useful to me as a beginner.

Good luck!
Alex the Great 10 Mar, 2021 @ 12:33pm
Haha! Yea Im already in that discord, I'll ask around in there, thanks buddy! :D
Alex the Great 10 Mar, 2021 @ 12:01pm
Oh almost forgot to ask, have you ever tested on how to give like henri for example, starting off with all 3 vows for him? Not exactly sure how to give it to specific characters, Im very new to this scripting thing.
Alex the Great 10 Mar, 2021 @ 9:41am
Oh I see! Is there a way to edit the existing vanilla vows without adding any new vows by any chance?
ori  [author] 6 Mar, 2021 @ 3:16pm
Yes, it's still working. There are only a few updates that need to be made for T&T: adding the new LL's to the list of lords that unlock the Pledge to Untaint/Protect, and adding the new settlements to the list of settlements that unlock the Grail Vows.
Both of these don't seem like much of an issue to me... As long as you don't rely on razing the Witchwood to unlock a grail vow - you should be fine ;-)
Alex the Great 25 Feb, 2021 @ 2:10pm
This is still working right?
cybvep 19 Oct, 2020 @ 4:54pm
This is a really interesting mod. Vanilla vows are super boring and end up doing the same ones, while you turned them into a real faction mechanics with some flavour as well. I hope that you expand the mod to Prophetess and Paladins.
ori  [author] 7 Aug, 2020 @ 1:34am
Seems so. I'll make an update after I take a deeper look, but on the surface I saw a small compatibility issue (that can be fixed).
Crassie Wassie 4 Aug, 2020 @ 7:24pm
I had sfo and this mod enabled
Just a problem with SFO?
ori  [author] 31 Jul, 2020 @ 7:01am
Currently my computer is giving some trouble, so I asked a friend to check, and he said Louen's starting vows work fine and are all unlocked. I'll double check for myself in a few days.

In the meantime - do you have any other active mods? Because this sounds like a mod compatibility problem. If so try disabling all the other mods and see if Louen's vows are unlocked; If you find the mod that collides with this one please let me know so I can update the description (and hopefully fix the mod to be more compatible).

As a general note, all the Bretonnian LL's vows should be unlocked as in vanillla, and if they aren't it means something is wrong and the mod is not working for you at all - also with the other Bretonnian factions.
Crassie Wassie 31 Jul, 2020 @ 2:58am
Louen doesn't start with all vows like he's supposed to
while i'm incredibly interested in this mod I dont think I can play it without louen working
amazing idea I cant wait for louen to get his update
