That would only mean those assets would not work. The District Style would still work and does still work.
It can not work anymore, some assets may become corrupted or get deleted, that's why he was asking.
m4gic  [author] 1 May, 2024 @ 9:47am
It's a district style. It cannot not work. It's a list of assets.
Catslayer556 30 Apr, 2024 @ 4:55am
still works?
m4gic  [author] 28 Dec, 2023 @ 12:28pm
ha! there are so many "bad sides" of towns across the world!
Romulator 22 Dec, 2023 @ 6:12pm
Man that's living on Detroit

Are you painting a large area with residential zone color? If you do, the game will try to spawn 4x4 almost exclusively. Have you painted 1x4, 2x2, 2x4, etc sizes that are isolated? Also, see the note that the smallest homes (shotgun homes and trailer houses) just won't grow in this District Style, even though they are assigned to this District Style. You have to grow those outside the Style area, or use Find It! to plop them onto appropriately sized zone area (must be outside of this District Style or they will not stay, and must be made historical or they will not stay).

You can also use Force Level Up mod to get past the first stage (vacant lots) and move on to higher level and different homes.
Panderman 23 Apr, 2023 @ 11:02am
I mean, they are literally all vacant lots. none of them are "trashy homes" as listed in the description.
m4gic  [author] 20 Apr, 2023 @ 2:44pm
Those will be the level one vacant lots. When they level up, they will develop into other homes. You can also try smaller sizes for different level one assets.
Panderman 20 Apr, 2023 @ 10:44am
my houses are just a fence with trees in it, the people just stand in the fenced area, do you know why?
m4gic  [author] 3 Apr, 2023 @ 2:11pm
Perhaps. Or perhaps there are no higher level assets for that type and size? Have you tried other sizes (e.g. 2x3, 2x2, 1x3, etc)?
WarGameKlok 3 Apr, 2023 @ 1:06pm
So when i use this style, the buildings get stuck on lvl 2 and dont progress from there. and other styles work, ive also subscribed to the collection. i think a building got taken off the workshop.
m4gic  [author] 19 Dec, 2022 @ 8:20pm
They are all in the Collection. It is, indeed, linked above.
Eelko76 19 Dec, 2022 @ 4:57pm
Where are the assets in this style ? No link ?
Fetti Stuntin 25 Nov, 2022 @ 9:31am
its deleting houses i plop down for the stupid vacant lots which i unsubscribed to idk why its still building tree houses
m4gic  [author] 22 Jul, 2022 @ 12:15pm
Nice!
Krusty_Ging 22 Jul, 2022 @ 6:37am
Interesting. Yeah I can see it in the collection and style so I know it's there. Not sure why the game wasn't picking it up. I added a few assets that were seemingly unrelated and that appeared to resolve my issue. No idea why or how but I will take it!
m4gic  [author] 21 Jul, 2022 @ 4:22pm
Not sure why CS does this. The asset is included in the Collection and District Style, but won't grow in the Style. There are always some assets like this. I either use Find It or let them grow in an area that does not have a Style applied and make them historical.
Krusty_Ging 21 Jul, 2022 @ 3:23pm
I have a few assets that are highlighted yellow (not loaded) in Building Themes Mod. One of them is King Leno's Family Dollar. I am subscribed to the Family Dollar, and can even Plop it using ploppable RICO/Find it. So it does appear to be loaded in the game, but the building themes doesn't seem to think it is. Any ideas?
m4gic  [author] 19 Apr, 2022 @ 5:04pm
@Josephdapro08 I think they did -- I think they are talking about the vacant lots used in the larger residential low levels.
Josephdapro08 19 Apr, 2022 @ 2:51am
@darinwbn you need to download the assets in the bsot collection
m4gic  [author] 27 Feb, 2022 @ 8:26pm
yep. read the description - level 1 and 2 are vacant lots. After level 3 houses will appear. Make some of the vacant lots historical and they won't change to home, which will help your District look like a "bad side of town".

Also, be sure you click the Collection above "bad Side of Town" and click "subscribe to all".
darinwbn 27 Feb, 2022 @ 7:50pm
Hi, I'm fairly new to mods and every time I use this style, only fields show up for my residential. Is that normal?
m4gic  [author] 4 Nov, 2021 @ 8:37pm
Ok — thanks. I am not able to update this right now but I will update this style soon, next week, to fix that.
hemislovak 4 Nov, 2021 @ 12:22pm
i have gone through the assets and realized the construction sites are not in the asset collection anymore. when i go into theme manager all i see is lvl 1 and lvl 3 assets but no lvl 2 for residential whatsoever. i have construction sites from the eccentric style but that creates some conflicts sometimes.
hemislovak 4 Nov, 2021 @ 1:44am
ive had issues will all the lot sizes not reaching lvl 2. only residential though but i will give what u said a try.
m4gic  [author] 3 Nov, 2021 @ 8:36pm
Also, see a little lower in the comments — there’s a related exchange below about trying various lot sizes, especially smaller ones.

If you just paint or fill an entire area of residential zoning then the game prefers to grow 4x4, and I don’t have many 4x4 assets in this style because those tend to be larger, more well-off homes that wouldn’t fit in a “bad side of town” build. Therefore, try zoning isolated strips of small residential lots, such as 1x2, 1x4, 2x2, etc. once the assets grow you can zone the lots next door the same or you can leave them vacant and add fences, trees, props, etc. to make the assets look like they have larger yards.
m4gic  [author] 3 Nov, 2021 @ 8:15pm
Hmmm….that is a new one I haven’t been told before. I’ll have to check what’s up with the level 2 growables.

What lot size, specifically, are you having this trouble with? It may be just that specific size, such as 4X4, that lacks a level 2 asset or has a level 2 asset that has been removed from the WS or something. I will check, but if you could let me know what lot size that would be very helpful.
hemislovak 3 Nov, 2021 @ 8:03pm
i cannot get the level 2 construction sites to spawn. the upgrade bar for lvl 2 will fill up and then revert back to lvl 1. i have all assets. cant figure out what is going on or what im missing.
m4gic  [author] 14 Oct, 2021 @ 9:31am
LOL.
Kyte 14 Oct, 2021 @ 8:58am
based off these assets never realized I live in the bad part of town
maybe im just used to it lol
m4gic  [author] 31 Aug, 2021 @ 7:27pm
Lol!
Not Pete 31 Aug, 2021 @ 12:11pm
finally a Detroit district style
m4gic  [author] 21 Jun, 2021 @ 7:58am
maybe one day i will add some 4x4 residential assets level 2-5. until then, use the 4x4 size only for the vacant lots and other sizes for buildings and it will be fine. Also, see the note that for some reason the 1x2, 1x3, 1x4 trailer homes do not want to grow at all if in an area where the Style is applied, but will grow outside of that area, so once they grow make them historical and don't apply the Style there or they will disappear.
Alex Krug 20 Jun, 2021 @ 11:57pm
indeed
4x4 just don't grow.
m4gic  [author] 18 Jun, 2021 @ 7:14am
it's probably the size you are zoning. Try zoning various sizes - 2x3, 2x2, 1x2, 1x3, etc.

If you just fill a zone the game will spawn 4x4 assets first and these may not grow into different "bad side of town" homes, but smaller sized lots will.
Alex Krug 18 Jun, 2021 @ 2:09am
They should. But they don't. Gotta try once more
m4gic  [author] 17 Jun, 2021 @ 7:15am
Read the description above, please. The "vacant lots" with fences and trees are level 1. As they level-up they will change into homes.
Alex Krug 16 Jun, 2021 @ 11:55pm
"Not all assets loaded" - only fences and trees, however, I subscribed all assets in the collection.
m4gic  [author] 16 Jun, 2021 @ 4:34pm
I could make that but would need to use DK's trailer models so would need permission to do so.
Rodger 16 Jun, 2021 @ 10:18am
If you get the 4x4 working it would be great to see a total trailer trash one. Mobile home with a pile of junk cars out front.
m4gic  [author] 2 May, 2021 @ 6:42am
Great idea!

I tried to find a way to save buildings in their "abandoned" state and upload them to WS but I was unable to do so ;(
KiloJKilo 2 May, 2021 @ 6:35am
@m4gic, that's a nice thought. One thing this game actually lacks is societal elements. Organically anyway. Wouldn't it be amazing if you were to abandon a demographic or even a district, it would naturally turn into a slum? Sim Cities: Societies esque.
m4gic  [author] 11 Apr, 2021 @ 11:04am
Yes - my whole reason for making these was to make a more realistic looking city - the vanilla buildings are too cartoonish and bright, and everything is in great condition; a real city, though, has houses of all types and sizes and in all kinds of conditions. I would actually like to see more wrecked or ruined buildings on the Workshop. I was trying to figure out how to make buildings look dilapidated like the game does when a building is abandoned, but I cannot find out how to do that yet and it may not be possible.
travii1976 11 Apr, 2021 @ 7:04am
This style is fantastic for adding some real areas to a city!
m4gic  [author] 25 Nov, 2020 @ 1:16pm
Right. Read the comments.

That happens first in the lower tiers, then higher tier homes will grow there. Also, try making smaller lot sizes.

The smallest houses will not grow in the District when this Style is applied. It is a bug in the game with all District Styles - they prefer to fill 3x4 and 4x4 spaces first. Try forcing 2x3 homes to grow -- and level them up.

citiesbydiana 25 Nov, 2020 @ 1:12pm
This doesnt work. All I get are these lots with trees and fences and nothing else grows.
m4gic  [author] 23 Oct, 2020 @ 7:23pm
Also, try making smaller plots for homes, like 1x2, 1x3 or 2x2.
m4gic  [author] 20 Sep, 2020 @ 5:12pm
Oh, you mean vacant lots - yes. Level 1 is vacant lots, level 2 is construction sites, level 3 is houses.
bumbalu 20 Sep, 2020 @ 3:06pm
yes but still, only gardens
