It's for in case you want to render the radar above an existing image.
It's just the maximum object display distance. It must not exceed the maximum distance the radar (or sonar) you plug in. If you set it to 100 the radar will not display any objects further away than 100. Objects that are 100 units away will be just at the edge off the circle. Same applies if you set it to 1000 (objects that are 1000 units away will be visible at the edge of the circle). So it's a zoom in a way.
Have a throttle or something as input for it. That way you can change it on the fly.
