5k doesn't seem like much when you're mining the actual mountain above...?

This has to be vanilla :boykisserSmug:
Murmur  [author] 19 May, 2024 @ 2:12am
I start in the center of where I want the hole and dig around it until it's all cleared, by the time the center collapses the pawns are pretty far away from it.
MatrixVirus 19 May, 2024 @ 12:46am
How are ya'll mining the roofs to prevent pawns from getting crushed? I am just having carefully mine the last edge piece last but is tedious. Any better options?
Torkkar 17 May, 2024 @ 12:06pm
so how bout mining the thick roof before it collapses? Tunneller mechanoids work with this? & can we add thick roofs if we're building in a mountain?
Murmur  [author] 12 May, 2024 @ 12:13pm
Well, regardless, I just tested it, this mod is collapsing thick roofs as it should, so your problem is due to another mod.
Murmur  [author] 12 May, 2024 @ 12:06pm
When do you get that message?
oXslothXo 12 May, 2024 @ 4:59am
im on 1.4 btw
oXslothXo 12 May, 2024 @ 4:59am
for some reason, im getting the message "nothing can remove thick roofs" with this mod active :/
Zaka Waka 14 Mar, 2024 @ 2:16am
that's so cool! I'll try it out!!
Murmur  [author] 13 Mar, 2024 @ 6:27pm
@silly knight gamer, I don't know if you're still paying attention but in the 1.5 version I added settings to fine tune all the drop chances, including the chance for nothing to drop.
The Reformed Chad 13 Mar, 2024 @ 4:27pm
Damn this is a damn good solution
Zaka Waka 12 Feb, 2024 @ 1:35am
Super sick! Thank you for your time even if that won't be for a while, it's a great mod and I appreciate the correspondence
Murmur  [author] 12 Feb, 2024 @ 1:24am
yeah it wouldn't be a bad idea to have more options, i'll look into it next time I'm doing rimworld stuff.
Zaka Waka 12 Feb, 2024 @ 12:25am
The problem in my opinion is that the mod options don't quite do anything to help this situation as even if you change the drop rate you're going to have a 4/5 chance to get a chunk, perhaps not to the same insanity if you lower it from the base chance. If there was an included option to choose the % drop rates of the items themselves, well, in that case I would just work the numbers and it would be easy to "fix", assuming you shared my viewpoint.

It must just be a difference of opinion but it sounds like you think that this is a penalty feature to get all of these chunks where I would say its the opposite as there is never a downside to having an abundance of stone materials as they are generally better than other stuffs since they're immune to fire and have lots more HP than most other buildables minus later game stuffs. For now I'm just gonna have a 0% drop chance for anything and simply deduce my colonists are atomizing the mountains as they go (or something)
Murmur  [author] 11 Feb, 2024 @ 11:47pm
I kinda like it giving a ridiculous amount of chunks because of what it represents, you are hollowing out a mountain essentially, you should have more material from that than you know what to do with. I personally enjoy the balance of dealing with all the chunks because of how powerful an open area in the middle of a mountain can be. But that's just me, which is why I included the other options.
Zaka Waka 11 Feb, 2024 @ 11:10pm
I take it back, after 5 piles I had about another 150chunks, I am just turning off the drop chance for chunks/resources entirely so I can at least still do the manual work for getting rid of the rocks while I think about what to do with all this marble LOL
Zaka Waka 11 Feb, 2024 @ 10:28pm
Where as I don't think these deep collapsed rocks should be an item farm for tiny amounts of metals and other resources, I really think there should be some level out to the spawning of chunks as it gets kind of crazy. I love this mod as an alternative to brute force mods that let you just delete whatever roof you want through overriding the mountain and have used it forever, but as stands it is so incredibly absurd that were I not gonna mine all the rocks for a before and after to help showcase the insanity of chunks I would honestly just use the dev commands to delete the rocks and go back to using one of those mods that lets you just delete mountain roofs with normal unroofing work.

Hopefully this makes some sense, because I genuinely think this is a mod that is such a quality of life and balanced integration to a otherwise frustrating game mechanic and would love to see it shine even more.
Zaka Waka 11 Feb, 2024 @ 10:28pm
Hi! I will start this by saying I know this mod has not been updated since 2022, that being said:

Two years later I'm commenting on this again cause I've used it on and off without complaints. However, after playing my latest save I really feel there should be a passover to the dropping of resources when you mine a collapsed section. Now I know it's noted that you can adjust this setting in the mod menu, however while I feel the base drop chance itself is fine, the "80% of the time it will be a chunk" footnote is where things are a bit weird upon further investigation.

I collapsed a huge section of mountain in my base and the rocks have an average of 2k to 2.5k hp. As I went to mine them out, I got through maybe 20ish of the 275 piles before I was swimming in chunks. Like, SO MANY CHUNKS. At the time of writing I have converted most of them into blocks and am sitting on 5600 marble blocks AFTER using only marble for 5 rooms worth of walls, floors, furniture, shelves, etc
[RTB] Sarianos 26 Jan, 2024 @ 3:46am
I second TheVillain's suggestion, we really need a way to trigger a roof collapse in a small area without first having to mine out half the map.
TheVillain 29 Jun, 2023 @ 9:01am
Really enjoy this approach to mountain roof removal. Make sense, but has some risk to it so not just a 'one and done' tool.

Are there any mods/ways to change the minimum distance required to cause a roof to collapse? The overhang of 6 tiles is annoying.
Murmur  [author] 20 Dec, 2022 @ 6:54pm
Mod conflict, the roof goes away in the collapse.
noskingod811 20 Dec, 2022 @ 6:36pm
I was expecting to be able to get rid of the roof but if you turn on the roof it is still there
Stellar Harbour 12 Dec, 2022 @ 11:17pm
So it's buff to difficulty?
Murmur  [author] 29 Nov, 2022 @ 4:57pm
Yep that's exactly it.
Zaka Waka 29 Nov, 2022 @ 3:47pm
I think I understand now. I thought the search radius was for determining how far away mountain roofs will be before they collapse, but it seems it is actually for the determining of the collapsed rocks HP pool. My mistake 👍
Zaka Waka 29 Nov, 2022 @ 3:36pm
maybe I am misunderstanding, but to me it seems like the setting for the roof detection radius doesn't really do anything? changed it from the default down to as low as 1 and the roof collapses are preforming the same way. restarted game after changing to check as well.
[RTB] Sarianos 11 Nov, 2022 @ 1:49am
Personally I'd still like to see an explosive for triggering a roof collapse / cave in.
Osseez 27 Oct, 2022 @ 12:21am
Very clever solution to not being able to remove mountain roof at all and it being instant.
Blutdrachen 2 Oct, 2022 @ 5:24am
Idea. Collapse mountain roofs to make really thick strong walls that aren't claimed so raiders don't bother them.
Murmur  [author] 20 Aug, 2022 @ 12:02am
Mine outward from the center, by the time the center collapses your miners are further away at the edge.
[Z]ebra 19 Aug, 2022 @ 10:13pm
You mine it to low hitpoints first then shoot/blow up it from a distance
Murmur  [author] 26 Jul, 2022 @ 10:05pm
You have to micromanage them a bit but it's totally possible to not crush a single pawn.
Katieclysm 26 Jul, 2022 @ 6:13pm
How would one use this without having a bunch of pawns crushed to death in cave-ins? Or is just that part of the price to be paid?
Frying_Dutchman 20 Dec, 2021 @ 12:51am
I kind of figured that wasn't supposed to happen. Not sure what mod it might be, I have like 100 active.
Murmur  [author] 19 Dec, 2021 @ 1:03pm
That is the opposite of what is supposed to happen so I'm assuming you have a mod conflict.
Frying_Dutchman 19 Dec, 2021 @ 7:25am
ive encountered a bug where i remove all the rocks, but the thick roof remains just floating there supported by nothing.
kp-beeferella 2 Sep, 2021 @ 6:02pm
ooooh excellent
[RTB] Sarianos 2 Sep, 2021 @ 8:36am
@koolpin Our lord and saviour Mlie has done an update of the RoofBomb mod, and I've requested that same feature both here, on the old RoofBomb mod and just now on Mlie's update, so it's been pretty well asked, but it never hurts to give the suggestion a ditto.
kp-beeferella 7 Aug, 2021 @ 10:03am
It could still reasonably be argued that the HP mechanic takes care of being OP, and people who build into mountains would still want to shave off the edges to prevent infestations, so 'force roof collapse' would be a nice addition - or a roof collapsing version of the resource-consuming (but not yet updated) Roof Bomb mod
Murmur  [author] 7 Aug, 2021 @ 9:17am
Oh I see, well this mod is supposed to be an alternative to those mods that I felt made removing thick roofs too easy. With this mod you can remove thick roofs, but it requires some planning and time.
kp-beeferella 7 Aug, 2021 @ 8:27am
That or just the 'remove overhead mountain' command you can get from other mods, like Terraform Rimworld or Raise the Roof
kp-beeferella 7 Aug, 2021 @ 8:23am
Maybe they mean something like a 'mine above' or 'intentionally collapse roof' command?
Murmur  [author] 7 Aug, 2021 @ 7:38am
Im not sure what you mean...
Su 7 Aug, 2021 @ 1:07am
this mod is great especially gaining resources but can you add remove overhead mountain please?
Murmur  [author] 1 Aug, 2021 @ 2:10pm
Should be fixed now.
