do eras start at 0 or 1 in the code?
Linkeplayer 26 Feb, 2024 @ 10:48pm
Hi, love your mod, but I do have one question. The "anti-plague" units aren't working like their suposed to be. For some reason they reduce the duration of the plague's by 0 turns, instead of -1, -2 etc. What can i do to improve this? Thank you in advance.

Hey, it is a really good mod but I cant play it with the Builder Lag Fix and I really need it for my games. Is there anyway that could work?
GreenCross6504 14 Aug, 2023 @ 6:54am
thank you

After saving your changes, you need to open the folder UI, then Replacements, open the file CityBannerManager_BlackDeathScenario, delete everything inside and replace the text from this docs :

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RZV7PhW_y5lMjZBju-fzK6nW4ERNPwlYzOn77PletWU/edit?usp=sharing

At this point the mod will work again, but the city banner will not appear, to fix it you will have to download another mod on the steam workshop named "Sukritact's Simple UI Adjustments"

Part 1
GreenCross6504 it means that if this mod does not work for you, I've found a way to fix it.
You need to locate this mod folder files (for me it is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\289070\2853822889 )

You will then have to open the file named "UnitPanel" (if windows ask with what to open it up, you can just use notepad), delete everything that is inside and replace it with the text in this docs :

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Kk7-zK3x7CmQIdeWR21xomtDqr1VTr48CqzxGe-t86Y/edit?usp=sharing
GreenCross6504 4 Aug, 2023 @ 11:18pm
what does that mean
SpatialX 4 Aug, 2023 @ 6:24am
Part 1
NHC or FearSunn I found a way to kinda fix this mod. The two big problems currently are that when you create a new city or a new district, the game will freeze for a minute, and that the city banner does not show up.

I tried to compare the mod files with the Black death gamemode files to see if all the files where up to date, and I found that replacing this mod "CityBannerManager_BlackDeathScenario.LUA" located in UI\Replacements by the same one located in the gamemode stopped the bug who froze the game.
SpatialX 4 Aug, 2023 @ 6:24am
Part 2.
I couldn't find a solution to bring back the City banner, but using other mods that modify the city banner (like "Sukritact's Simple UI Adjustments") bring it back.

I don't know if it can cause other bugs, but "UnitPanel.lua" seems pretty outdated (again, by comparing with base game UnitPanel, things like DisasterCharges or units Lifespan are missing in this mod UnitPanel, I think the best way to fix it would be to just copy and paste the updated UnitPanel, and paste in all segments of code with "--sss" in it).

If I don't recieve an answer, I will post an fixed version in a week.

This mod is broken. Won't work by itself with the black death.

can you make a plague doctor unit just to make it feel more real

To all of the people complaining that this mod is way to hard, getting some other mods make it a lot easier. I would recommend mods that make sure you can get a religion and have a decent faith generation so the early game is less punishing. Add some mods that increase your housing capability's, there are great aqueduct mods that make regrowing your city's easier after having a mass die off that also add housing bonuses to make it less likely to happen again. There is a mod that adds domestic trade yields per district in your cities that make the ai less likely to trade with you early game and also make growing your cities back easier.

I personally really like this mod and hate seeing how much unwarranted hate it gets. If none of the above helps you, this just is not the mod for you, go hate on someone else.
NHC  [author] 1 Feb, 2021 @ 7:48am
Unfortunately, the mod seems to be broken with the latest New Frontier Pass patch and I have no idea how to fix it :(
Fenragon 21 Jan, 2021 @ 3:15pm
Updates:
"- New plague can appear in maximum one city at a time. One city is taken randomly in the pool of possible cities. The expectation of new plague increased linearly with the number of cities and I want the expectation of new plague appearing to be the same no matter the number of cities. The spread mechanic of existing plague to other cities did not change."
" - New Plague chance divided by 4"

Thanks!

What did u just update?
Treemonkey60 19 Oct, 2020 @ 7:40pm
+1 to the wanting difficulty slider. personally to go in the opposite direction hehe.
I keep finding myself with a strong religion cleaning city centers while ai atrophies.
Either way love what you've done with this mod!
Noah 11 Oct, 2020 @ 7:51pm
Agreed with the others. Not to pester you or anything, but it really would be appreciated if the difficulty could be lowered a bit.
Silverfishv9 8 Oct, 2020 @ 6:54pm
@NHC, I really tried to give this mod a second chance, seeing that it was updated since I tried it last, but I'm afraid the issue still remains. The chance of plagues spawning is simply too high, with numerous strains active simultaneously, leaving the world in a state of near perpetual malaise for most of the medieval to industrial eras. Simply tying this to game difficulty does not work, lowering the difficulty makes the AI too pathetic to be worth playing with for experienced players, and increasing it makes the game an absolute slog to play. Separating it and allowing control over the plague spawn chance and duration, regardless of actual difficulty, or at least just lowering them to more reasonable levels, is really needed to make this mod bearable. As is its just as slow and torturous as the diseases themselves.
Dandy Drake 8 Oct, 2020 @ 6:21am
your idea is great, but i have an issue with the purple-ish colour in shadow, the razed tile, or destroyed city or districts, that make me uncomfortable, i have a request to make the colour be normal, it would be helping, thank you.....:lunar2019grinningpig:
Cooleatack 22 Sep, 2020 @ 9:23am
NHC, People are not complaining for the sake of complaining. The idea is great, but it makes the game unplayable. Please, make it easier. An idea (If possible to implement): Make a slider like the disaster intensity that players can slide during setup of the game. This way the spread intensity could be regulated.
NHC  [author] 1 Sep, 2020 @ 2:59am
For people complaining it is too hard, playing in easy (Settler) reduces the duration and chance of the plague appearing.
DeadWeatherDrums 27 Aug, 2020 @ 11:23am
This mod is such a great idea that Firaxis should steal it. However, at present, it's just waaaaaay too strong and bogs down gameplay and the fun factor too much. Genius idea, dear Author, just needs tweaking to being like any other "natural" disaster: it's neato, it hurts, but it goes away fairly quickly.

Problem With Animated Time of Day Not Working....
Fenragon 14 Aug, 2020 @ 3:16am
I have to agree with the people down below.
Whilst I love the "idea" of the mod, it's not really fun to play.

It reduces the gameplay to a near constant removing of the plague, no matter what era you're at.
Silverfishv9 13 Aug, 2020 @ 5:27pm
Tried it, and found it pretty interesting, but a bit overtuned. While the medieval era was known for constant plagues around cities, and major ones that wiped out large populations, they gradually became rarer and rarer as modern medicine developed. While the shorter durations attempt to represent this, its not nearly enough, and by the industrial era half the world is caught in never ending plagues that just won't stop, grinding everything to a halt. No amount of scholars or plague doctors could keep up with the sheer amount of tiles always under some form of infection, and even if they could the micromanagement is awful. The idea of massive world changing plagues is good, but they really need to spread and stop faster, and spawn less often to feel special. As it is even the modern world is just a blanket of spooky clouds.
NHC  [author] 7 Aug, 2020 @ 10:11am
@loveorb: The plague killed 30% of world population, and the mod does exactly that.
An asteroid of a few kilometers wide caused the Cretaceous–Paleogene mass extinction event which killed about 75% of all lifeform. In game, the effect is indeed ridiculous. It is the asteroid which is too weak not the plague that is too strong.
NHC  [author] 4 Aug, 2020 @ 10:58am
@weraptor : Yes, you are right the plague was caused by bacteria not a virus. The ability has been renamed as "Spread Diseases".
loveorb 4 Aug, 2020 @ 12:49am
Please make a mod after playing properly. The game balance can never be maintained. This is a bigger disaster than a meteorite impact.
weraptor 31 Jul, 2020 @ 3:19am
please rename the spread virus action to spread pathogen

Hello?
Tigranes 22 Jul, 2020 @ 10:11am
AI still builds Scholars but much less.
NHC  [author] 22 Jul, 2020 @ 8:21am
Never said that I fixed that. Only that I should. Anyway, I have now removed the ability to build plague doctor and scholar to the AI again.
Tigranes 22 Jul, 2020 @ 7:40am
Your AI scholar fix did not work. 2020 AI China for example has 53 of them by turn 39 and building nothing but scholars:

In all of my games where I reached future era, I purposely researched and spread the plague with +60 strength on all foreign cities everywhere on the map. So the mod is actually doing exactly what it has been designed for ^^. The only thing missing is a probablity of the spy dying when it spread the plague or incoporating that into a proper spying operation that would piss off the AI.
Tigranes 22 Jul, 2020 @ 6:38am
@NHC, that's true for medieval era. But I am talking about Information Era on Settler difficulty, modern World 2020. I hope to God we will fare much better than Dark age world 700 hundred years ago.
Please keep up playing with your own creation. One of the most depressing thing I find about modders is that they don't play their own games long enough to actually feel what did they modded. I hope you could finish a game or two starting in different eras to see the full impact of your changes.
NHC  [author] 22 Jul, 2020 @ 6:23am
By the way killing 30% of the world population is what the plague did historically so I am actually happy to see that the mod does exactly that :p
NHC  [author] 22 Jul, 2020 @ 6:20am
Yeah... I have uploaded a new version that gives an extra chance for AI cities to avoid death depending on the difficulty level. 10% chance per difficulty level.
(0% in Settler, 30% in Prince, 70% in Deity).
I should forbid again the AI from building scholars and plague doctors until I teach it how to use them properly :/
Programming AI is hard.
Tigranes 22 Jul, 2020 @ 6:07am
AI just spams Scholars like crazy and they are doing nothing, just crowding the map and slowing down the game. On the other note size 20 city taking -5 hit is a bit harsh. I use autorun to test this in Information era and with -1 population for any sized city plague still kills 30% of world population in just 60 turns on Prince difficulty. So @NHC you definitely went a little overboard here :steamhappy:
