Incredible. The ladders are usable now.

With a small teaser sneaked in I guess xD

Updated 😋👍

This is perfect! Looking forward to that update!
TwitchingPsycho  [author] 14 Mar @ 5:28pm
And I forgot the DLC ladder one. Will update soon again. Whoops xD
TwitchingPsycho  [author] 14 Mar @ 5:27pm
Wait theres a scaffold ladder now?!
Archon 14 Mar @ 3:23pm
This is exactly what I was looking for, it works great.
However, I noticed it only replaces the logic for the basic ladder block and not for the scaffold ladder or ladder shaft. Are there any plans to also apply this logic to those blocks?

UPDATED and works again as intended (probably) as of SE update 1.205 👍🤣👍

To be quite honest, I don't know why Digi refuses to have a side mod for the vanilla ladders not using the slow ass and very limited and trash animation based ladder climbing. Also, I'm shocked nobody is taking it over to maintain some of those mods or further develop them. -.-#
I'm gonna assume that ladder users are a minority or something, I dunno. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ xD

cant use ladders with this mod at all
Ace of Chips 1 May, 2022 @ 8:43pm
I hope this mod not only gets fixed, but also revamps the new "Most Wanted" ladder as well.

@Doctor Verum:

There was an API change by Keen that invalidated Digi's ladder Logic. Digi has fixed it, their ladders work just fine but this mod has not been updated to the new API so it will critically fail during load. =-(
Doctor Verum 13 Feb, 2021 @ 12:15pm
This just doesn't work for me. It just makes the ladders unusable.

Does this mod require digi's mod to be loaded too? The workshop page doesn't say so but I figured I'd ask
Drizzt 13 Aug, 2020 @ 3:39pm
hey, it's the word of the homicidal, dual wielding dark elf against the self professed psycho (and his army of self replacing ladders) - the courtroom drama is gonna be intense ;-)
TwitchingPsycho  [author] 13 Aug, 2020 @ 3:21pm
Haha :P
It was all Drizzt, he put me up to this! I've been framed, they got the wrong guy! Oh wait, too soon?
Drizzt 13 Aug, 2020 @ 3:12pm
all good - unless someone went on a massive spree of pasting ladders into the their own theme park "Ladder World", using the pre-replacer version, i doubt there's going to be too much inconvenience (but when the Ladder World executives send their legal team to demand compensation i just want to make it clear that i in no way have your back on this :-P)

thanks for the update! :-)
TwitchingPsycho  [author] 13 Aug, 2020 @ 1:51pm
New update was release, I'd suggest to read the top bit titled "IMPORTANT".
Sorry for the f*up.
Drizzt 6 Aug, 2020 @ 6:18am
and where a moment ago there was a ladder which only looked like a ladder (and where the planetary footfalls of a tonne of astronaut and equipment were silent as the vacuum of space), now there is ladder which also behaves like a ladder, and sounds like a ladder - great job! (and when i feel smart enough i shall go and see how the magic was done) :-)
TwitchingPsycho  [author] 6 Aug, 2020 @ 6:06am
I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause but i finally made the large grid ladder as a proper replacer, but the side result is that the substitute one will disappear from BP's and saves. I am very sorry. I can post a version that keeps the substitute one active but I'd suggest to better replace them with now properly vanilla ladders instead. Again, sorry for the inconvenience! :/
Drizzt 6 Aug, 2020 @ 5:43am
tested and all good - awesome stuff :-)
and thanks for confirming i'm not going crazy (at least not regarding ladder footsteps anyway......)
:-)
TwitchingPsycho  [author] 6 Aug, 2020 @ 5:35am
Resolved, hopefully no more bugs of this sort. :D
And yes, i think the vanilla ladder actually doesn't even have the sound. xD
Amazing Keen workmanship right there.
TwitchingPsycho  [author] 6 Aug, 2020 @ 2:30am
Yup, i see the issues. Working on resolving them.
TwitchingPsycho  [author] 6 Aug, 2020 @ 1:29am
Hm... 🤔 Shouldn't do double sound Tbh and definitely not play on Digi's ladders, I'm not attaching anything to his ladders. It specifically targets only ladder type, his is terminal type blocks. I'll check it out. And don't worry about commenting. If there are bugs, I need to know about it. Thank you. 😁
Drizzt 5 Aug, 2020 @ 7:34pm
ok - am i going crazy or does the vanilla ladder have no sounds? or have i broken my game somehow? (tested on a new world with no mods)
Drizzt 5 Aug, 2020 @ 7:17pm
oh yeah - sorry to be the guy who just points out little bugs like the most annoying car passenger ;-)
but with this and Digi's mod both active, the footsteps sounds play twice for both ladders
(feel free to kick me out of the car and tell me to make my own way there ;-))
Drizzt 5 Aug, 2020 @ 7:00pm
yeah, don't mind me, just thinking aloud in your comments ;-)
good luck with the replacer - really interested to see how you do it! :-)
TwitchingPsycho  [author] 5 Aug, 2020 @ 6:50pm
Well, the plan is to make it vanilla replacer, meaning that any already vanilla ladder would be the same, but have the new logic, and when removed, it would still have the ladder only working with Keens animations. Currently tho, i opted for a replace by hide option until i get it to be a proper replacer. At the same time, i see no real reason why there would be 2 ladders with different logic available. Essentially, you either want the new logic or not, see no real benefit of mix-matching it.
Drizzt 5 Aug, 2020 @ 3:23pm
One thing i will add is that you have definitely made a replacer in the sense that the vanilla ladder is no longer buildable with the mod active - but obviously in addition to old ladders remaining vanilla, if the world is loaded without the mod active all the new ladders disappear, as with any mod.

I'm just wondering if the replacer aspect might be better as a script, and have your ladder as a new block in addition to the vanilla version (maybe when the mod is active the vanilla ladder could be renamed "Grab Rail" in the menu). Then you could have the script work both ways, so that if people need to uninstall the mod (for example to use a world or ship on a vanilla server) they could run the second script to make all their ladders vanilla so that they don't disappear.

Just a thought - could also have two version of the mod, one a replacer and one a new block?

But anyway, enough chatter from me! Great job and thanks for fixing the strafe :-)
Drizzt 5 Aug, 2020 @ 3:23pm
Awesome stuff mate! - just tested it and works perfectly - Digi's ladders, but with the vanilla aesthetic (minus the pretty vanilla animations - but i expect for most that is a small price to pay) - and now we can have this and Digi's ladders to have two types of ladder which behave like ladders and decide for each ladder which look we prefer :-)
TwitchingPsycho  [author] 5 Aug, 2020 @ 6:28am
Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I am aware that it does not actually replace the vanilla ladders yet but I'm working on it. It's not as simple as I hoped but I'll see what i can do. Was my main goal but for now, anything is better then nothing. xD
My main goal is to make it a replacer so hopefully I'll figure it out soon. :D
Thanks for your patience. :)

Also, (hopefully) fixed side movements and tweaked the behavior a bit to better suit the logic for the vanilla ladder model. Enjoy! :D

" 2. Ladders placed before mod installation will still be vanilla (i guess your new block hides the vanilla one from the menu, even though it still exists? would it be possible to script a replace for vanilla ladders on a grid?)" THIS!! please :)
Drizzt 3 Aug, 2020 @ 5:18pm
Hey - nice idea - apart from looking pretty and having animation the vanilla ladders are really only useful as grab rails - if they had sprint capability and the ability to look around and activate blocks then i would say they had some value as climbing ladders, with Digi's being used as working ladders, i.e. anywhere that full functionality is required at the expense of pretty models and animations.
But as things are at the moment, if you need a ladder, it's a Digi ladder.
So i've noticed a few things:
1. Strafe doesn't appear to work for me (also means tutorial never completes)
2. Ladders placed before mod installation will still be vanilla (i guess your new block hides the vanilla one from the menu, even though it still exists? would it be possible to script a replace for vanilla ladders on a grid?)
Anyway, i hope that was useful feedback - thanks and long live the ladder logic of Digi! :-)
TwitchingPsycho  [author] 29 Jul, 2020 @ 12:45pm
My thoughts exactly. xDDDDDDD
Oh, and all thanks to Digi, i merely ported it to the vanilla ladder. xDDDD
