@Mats It's fantastic news that you are making a new map. Can you share any info about where new map will be placed and when you will release it?
Mats  [author] 14 Dec, 2020 @ 5:08am
@Aderod Yes, I am working on a new map :) Thanks for asking.

@Aksorn I like to make maps and create objects specifically for those maps in order to give the maps a certain feel. Together, they tell a story. Separately they do not, which is why I am not really interested in releasing parts of the mod as standalone mods. Furthermore, I think that the quality of those separate parts is good enough for the story map, but not good enough on its own.

@sandy_beograd: interesting, show me what you've got :) (in a private message)

@Mats: are you going to create any new maps?
Aksorn 5 Dec, 2020 @ 10:31am
Hi, would you provide paddle boats and elephants in a standalone mod ?

I love the design of this one! Really love the fact that industries die off and are discovered. Anyone know of other maps/scenarios that do this?? I'm bored of regular...

@Mats Thank you for putting in the effort for this map. This has given me some Railway Empire vibes, but in the TF2 engine. Really enjoying it more than normal Freeplay.
Legend!

@Coaster: thanks for letting me know, I will take a look at it. @Luzagal, great to hear, thanks very much! @Claude: thanks! I chose the Asian vehicles because there are a lot of non-British vehicles in the Europe set as well. Both Asian and Europe aren't perfect in this case. You can change the vehicle set easily though. :)

Hey Mats, thanks a lot for all your efforts to provide a great experience.
May I suggest that the vehicle parameters is set to Europe, thus British, instead of Asia?
Be safe

Hey man. Played that map and finished it yesterday. Every transport method worked without problems, I loved the timeline advancements because they force you to adapt. I think your map is one of the top 3 maps considering the story maps. Great job! Keep them coming and I will keep playing them :) THANKS

Seems to be a bug with loading a save game with multi compartment ships. The compartments get randomly assigned new cargo types upon loading, which often results in losing any cargo they had been carrying.

@MynOck So, in terms of presence the Portuguese were there for 143 years (61 years if you count from the point they officialy claimed regency), the Dutch 155 years (131 years formally) and the British 146 years (of which 123 years the entire island).

I, as a Dutch person, had always seen Ceylon as a "Dutch colony", which is inaccurate to say the least. Just like a British person thinking of it as purely a "British colony". Both countries can be quite chauvinist in their education about that material, although I don't know how Portugal handles that material.

The Portuguese were first, the Dutch were there the longest (by a slight margin) and the British were the only colonial power to get hold of the entire island. Strange fact is that all those powers were about 143-155 years on that island, such in succesion (albeit that the Portuguese and the Dutch had an overlap for 18 years).
Cadoras 29 Jul, 2020 @ 1:55pm
@MynOck So did the Portuguese. From 1597-1658 it was Portuguese, although they already built a fort there in 1515-1517(?) and from then on waged war on the Kandy. The locals made the mistake to ask the Dutch to get rid of the Portuguese, which they did - althoug it took about 18/20 years to make them leave officialy. The Dutch then took over from the Portuguese and "ruled" there between 1640 and 1795, so not 200 years I'm afraid.

Britain had its eyes on Ceylon for a long time and when the Netherlands got royally f*cked up the *rse in 1795 by the French (virtually became a puppet state) the British laid siege. In 1802 they got the Dutch possessions via treaty and started to wage war (1803) on the Kandy, who through all that time remained an independent kingdom on the island (neither Portugal or the Dutch ever gained the full island). However, it cost the British a staggering 12 years to win that war. Result however was that Britain ruled over the entire island from 1815 until 1948.
