in the next patch (orion) now in beta they will add frigate ship i would like that you add ship sections for frigate
Artacool  [author] 12 Jun, 2022 @ 10:39am
@dRuPpl I am just getting back into Stellaris after a break. I'll look into adding some science ship sections. Is there anything you are looking for in particular?
Artacool  [author] 12 Jun, 2022 @ 10:38am
@napamathguy This mod just adds additional ship sections, and is compatible with other mods. The Ship Design Expanded changes how starbases, ion cannons, juggernauts work, but it is not compatible with other mods.
Artacool  [author] 12 Jun, 2022 @ 10:33am
@doctornull I don't think it changed anything for this mod. No files are overwritten, so it will continue to work for future versions.
dRuPpI 15 Mar, 2022 @ 6:08pm
does this have new science ship sections too?
napamathguy 23 Jan, 2022 @ 3:47pm
I have subscribed to your Ship Designer Expanded. How is this mod different from that?
doctornull 6 Jan, 2022 @ 10:44am
Did Herbert change anything relevant?
minecon2 29 Sep, 2021 @ 2:35am
Thank you!
Artacool  [author] 28 Sep, 2021 @ 4:19pm
@minecon2 Yeah it's Lem compatible. As far as I can tell they didn't change anything about ship sections. I'll be updating the version number soon, so it won't have that little triangle.
minecon2 24 Sep, 2021 @ 10:51am
Lem 3.1 compatible?
-=EDF=- Kouta Seto 19 May, 2021 @ 7:06am
"I made this mod because I was disappointed with the vanilla ship templates. Many of the vanilla templates made it difficult to make specialized ship designs by mixing hangers and torpedoes with traditional weapons that don't penetrate shields and armor, or large weapon slots with small weapon slots that will never be in range. This causes 'wasted' weapon slots, and limited viable designs." Uhm, no design ever has wasted slots. Especiel when you hit plasma/disruptor even the corvetts get some usefullnes back (althou a dedicated 18 BB fleet wipes the floor with the AI's mixed ones with ease (mixed = few large ships mostly smaller ones). Nice mod anyway, especiel since the stuff is hidden behind tech this time.
doctornull 25 Apr, 2021 @ 4:07pm
How odd. Probably some legacy code on their end.

Anyway, what you did just now does seem to have fixed the launcher's version warning. Thank you!
Artacool  [author] 25 Apr, 2021 @ 4:03pm
Thanks for letting me know. Looks like it only updated the "supported version" field to 3.0.* while the "version" field is still 2.8.1. Not sure why it wouldn't update both or why there are even two fields for version. Let me know if it is fixed now, or if I have to track down other places.
doctornull 25 Apr, 2021 @ 2:20pm
It looks like this updated today, which is great, but the PDX mod manager still thinks this mod is for 2.8.1. Is that a problem on my end?
SarikOstheim 18 Apr, 2021 @ 8:07pm
Please update.
Artacool  [author] 3 Mar, 2021 @ 9:01am
@Vix Cosmos, it works fine for me. This mod doesn't overwrite any files so it must be another mod that you are using.
Cosmos 10 Feb, 2021 @ 3:05am
None of the ship sections let you add weapons
allanonkai 4 Nov, 2020 @ 1:36pm
update for 2.8?
Artacool  [author] 28 Oct, 2020 @ 7:29am
@boisegangpc Oof I didn't notice that before. Should be fixed now. Thanks for letting me know.

@Mindlessmrawesome yeah the hanger/hangar thing has been fixed in the mod, just not in the screenshots. I'm not very experienced with photoediting programs, so those thumbnails took me way longer than they should have, and I don't look forward to redoing them. I also added an "s" to the titan stern. I also like consistency, however, if you stare at a wall of text long enough, the details starts to blue away. Thanks for letting me know.
Mindlessmrawesome 26 Oct, 2020 @ 8:15pm
It's minor details, really, and I'm most definitely going to use this mod in my next playthrough regardless. I just know that, as an author, I'm going to lose my mind seeing "hanger" every time I open up the ship editor.
Mindlessmrawesome 26 Oct, 2020 @ 8:14pm
Haven't tested the mod out yet to see if these have been fixed, but hangar is spelled with an A, and the screenshots show it being spelled with an E. It's a minor detail, but it's still annoying looking at the screenshots and seeing "hanger". Also, you called one of the new titan sections "heavy weapons core" and then another "heavy weapon stern". I'd suggest putting an S at the end of "weapon" either all the time or none of the time, even if it only has one slot for ordnance.
Boisegangpc 25 Oct, 2020 @ 10:22pm
The Tactical Stern has a hilarious bug where it uses the same model as a Bow (tested with the base shipsets and the Machine shipset). Thing got no engines.
Artacool  [author] 16 Sep, 2020 @ 8:35am
@qyli2004, yep, this mod works fine with everything.

As far as the meta, I hope these sections shake that up. Destroyers are a bit stronger here, and if you use the utility bow or stern, you can reach 90% evasion with afterburners.
C.A. 14 Sep, 2020 @ 7:00pm
I just tested and this mod and it seems to be working fine with Downscaled Ships. The compatibility is really quite good.
Boisegangpc 14 Sep, 2020 @ 9:18am
@Dragon of Desire

Late game corvettes can be absurd if you can get them to the cap of 90% Evasion. The more powerful destroyer you're asking for is probably a torpedo hull and stern for an absurd 3 guided slots on a single medium ship, which can make it an excellent sniper.
C.A. 14 Sep, 2020 @ 8:39am
Hello, will this mod work fine with Downscaled Ships? thanks!
Dragon of Desire 18 Aug, 2020 @ 2:10am
Unfortunately the current meta is battleships and cruisers. By adding corvettes with a bit more takiness and power (Maybe also add in a similar powerful ship type from advanced destroyer hulls?) it'd make them more viable lategame.
Artacool  [author] 17 Aug, 2020 @ 10:54pm
@Dragon of Desire, I appreciate the feedback. I think that set up might be too strong as it would would probably be better than a lot of destroyers (same power with more evasion and less fleet cost). I may add a frigate to my next mod with more ship classes.

Personally I think the bomber is very strong offensively already. Although, I may be open to increasing its utility slot to a M.
Dragon of Desire 17 Aug, 2020 @ 12:21am
I highly recommend that you add a new Corvette hull named "Frigate" for Advanced Corvette Hulls:

2 S armor slots, 2 A slots, 2 G slots, 1 P slot and 1 S slot weapon

I recommend Bomber be either added to the "Improved Corvette Hulls", as it does't really seem to be "better" than the ones before. With this new Frigate, it'd help make Advanced Corvette Hulls more lucrative, instead of something you gloss over in favor of cruiser or battleship hulls.
Artacool  [author] 16 Aug, 2020 @ 8:27pm
It's actually not difficult to create ship classes without causing a bunch of compatibility issues. I just don't think the makers of NSC2 care enough to do it. Plus NSC2 has grown into this huge thing changes way too much.
Boisegangpc 16 Aug, 2020 @ 6:02pm
I'd actually like to see another ship classes mod (though I assume compatibility for every single big-name shipset would be overwhelming, since that seems to come up in every single ship mod lol).

Something I'd personally like to see would be a ship sort of in the middle of the corvette and destroyer, like a sort of corvette. Small ships don't have a lot of variety and are often overlooked in the modding scene because Battlecruisers and Dreadnoughts and Carriers sound a lot more awesome and imposing. Smaller utility craft like fleet tenders, fast attack craft, and the like don't get a lot of attention so any mod that adds more ships that focus less on just being powerful and more on being unique are pluses in my book :D
Artacool  [author] 16 Aug, 2020 @ 5:39pm
@boisegangpc Thank you for the praise! I am looking at further ways to expand the ship classes further, so any suggestions are appreciated. I originally had a tanky corvette, but thought by the time the player unlocked Improved Corvette Hulls, they would already have destroyers which is basically a tanky corvette. Maybe I could add it in without the tech prereq to give early game variety.

I'm glad you like the tech prerequisites. I was worried it would annoy people, but I thought it was fitting that "Improved" and "Advanced" hull technology should give more design options. It had the bonus effect of making those technologies a lot more exciting to see pop up.

There are a few changes I would like to make to Destroyers and Cruisers, but it would involve overwriting the ship class, making it incompatible with other mods that do that. So I am considering making a mod that adds alternate ship classes like "Tactical Destroyer" or "Support Cruiser."
Boisegangpc 15 Aug, 2020 @ 11:31pm
The Battleship and Titan seem to lack Armored sections, same with the Corvette (though I assume that's just due to how Corvettes are). It would be really neat if such sections could be added, though if not that's no big deal.
Boisegangpc 15 Aug, 2020 @ 7:46pm
Also, I'd like to praise just how unintruisive this mod feels. It's like something like this belongs in the game and gives a reason to research improvements to your older ships and such.
Boisegangpc 15 Aug, 2020 @ 7:44pm
Even with NSC enabled, this mod is a blast! It adds so much more variety to fleet designs and makes the core ship classes feel more like generalists and jack-of-all-trades than their more specialized brethren. There's a lot of interesting things that can be done with fleet composition, since you can much more easily refit a fleet of battleships and cruisers from artillery to missiles to carrier designs compared to purpose-built warships. It's just a little bit of extra flavor that really spices up the game in my experience.
Artacool  [author] 14 Aug, 2020 @ 3:34am
@boisegangpc @christophe.poth thanks for reporting that. It should be fixed.

@Double D I use this mod with Additional Vanilla Weapons and Additional Vanilla Components. I used NSC way back in early Stellaris, but it has gotten too big and adds too much stuff that I didn't want. I realized I didn't want new ship classes, I wanted the original ship classes to be more useful, so I made this mod.
christophe.poth 13 Aug, 2020 @ 2:35am
Hi Artacool,

Thanks for this mod, really cool add !

Just to report the same issue as boisegangpc , some slots of the Titan hanger/carrier section can't be filled with fighters or whatever... perhaps other section are concerned too.... It seems to concern all shipsets .

hope it can be fixed

Anyways , thanks a lot !

Best regards .
Boisegangpc 9 Aug, 2020 @ 3:50pm
@Double D I'd suggest Extra Ship Components or other ship component overhauls.
Double D 9 Aug, 2020 @ 1:31pm
Looking to drop NSC for this (I know it's compatible). Does anyone have any recommendations on what to use this mod with to enhance it even further? I had considered BSW but it looks like the authors gone AWOL.
Boisegangpc 8 Aug, 2020 @ 7:16pm
Adding to what @Nanu said, the same thing happens for the Titan Carrier/Hangar hulls, at least for the Machine Shipset (if that matters). Some of the hangars don't actually allow Strike Craft to be placed. Would show, but I'm away from my computer and will be for some time.
Artacool  [author] 8 Aug, 2020 @ 3:28am
@Nanu, Thanks for bringing that to my attention. It should be fixed now.
Nanu 6 Aug, 2020 @ 1:19pm
This is an awesome mod, only thing is some of the ship parts don't work as expected; I tried giving the corvette the Gunship section but it only let me place 3 guns, the 4th slot can't be filled for whatever reason. I haven't tested the others yet as I'm still in the early game. If it makes any difference, I'm using the mammalian shipset.
That Random Alien 5 Aug, 2020 @ 1:28am
Well then, great opportunity! Hope you have fun trying it out, and searching for the solution with compatibility!
Artacool  [author] 4 Aug, 2020 @ 10:19pm
@boisegang, I wouldn't be as worried about balance as much as theme. To me the point of bigger ships is access to bigger guns, with the Battleship being the first ship with XL and Titan being the first with T. Its the same reason why I don't like ship set mods that add an L slot to corvettes, even if they balance it by lowering Utility and Aux slots.

@Dscrub, thank you for the kind words and support!

@That Random Alien, turns out I have that mod favorited already. I probably wanted to try it, but it was conflicting with something else I was using at the time and I forgot about it. This is probably a good opportunity to give it a try while working on compatibility.
That Random Alien 4 Aug, 2020 @ 5:30pm
Heya, I would have made this comment earlier, but Steam was freaking out on me. This mod is where the living ships are from. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1455861246&searchtext=technology
Dscrub 4 Aug, 2020 @ 9:04am
so you're telling me you managed to not only make some sensible, balanced additions to vanilla ships but also were considerate enough to make it compatible to a hugely popular mod people might have installed when looking for new sections? Fantastic. Brilliant. Many thanks.
Boisegangpc 3 Aug, 2020 @ 11:34pm
Okay, I have a bit of an insane section idea, but...

what about an X-slot Cruiser bow? Like, no M, S, or A slots, just a single slot for an X-Sized weapon. Maybe make it a bit more expensive than others. I can see it being a heck of a difficult problem to balace but it would be pretty fun, especially since it *might* be possible to lock it behind requiring a certain tech.

Another idea that would be cool would be double spinal mounts for Titans and Battleships. I have a vague memory of that type of thing existing in one iteration of NSC or a ship section mod and haven't seen it since. I miss my dakkaboats.
Crazy Old Texan 3 Aug, 2020 @ 3:32pm
NSC2 Compat is a nice addition.
Artacool  [author] 30 Jul, 2020 @ 11:24pm
I'm not familiar with the living ships mod, but it sounds like you're right. I would probably only need to add a clone of each template that costs food instead of alloys and has a prereq with the different tech. With the hp and armor regen, I would guess that the living ships mod handles that in the ship_sizes file, so I probably wouldn't need to do anything there. I'll work on that after I finish breaking up my main mod into smaller more compatible mods.

I'm glad you are liking the destroyer concept, it was what originally inspired me to make this mod. I wanted destroyers to act like RL Navy destroyers and guard capital ships while adding a little bit of artillery fire, not act like a front line AA fodder.

Please let me know if the destroyers are TOO strong now by posting in the discussion thread. My goal is to add design while still maintaining balance. I'm thinking of taking the Aux slot away from the Torpedo Stern, because it seems way better than the other two sterns right now.
