Scalable Init Support

Hey @SillySpaceCat - Scalable Init Support should be fully compatible with FrostEpex's AlyxLib [github.com], as AlyxLib already implements the relevant files for enforcing and calling Scalable Init Support at runtime (and as such, it should already function the same as Scalable Init Support during development and release). Could you clarify what specific functionality/benefit you are looking for, and how it differs from Frost's current implementation?

If you think this topic will turn into a lengthy conversation, feel free to start a Discussion here.

If it doesn't happen all the time, that leads me to suspect it's likely an issue with other mods you are using. One other thing you can try is before starting your game, go into your addons list and turn off & then turn on again Scalable Init Support (so that it is the most recently enabled addon). If that doesn't change anything, then I'd suggest narrowing down which other mods cause the issue by toggling them on & off together one by one until you are able to consistently repeat the issue. If there's still no clear cause after that, feel free to add me on Steam so I can try to reproduce your issue and we can troubleshoot one-on-one.

hello, no the saves mods are not changed. this might be an issue with another mod itself, however upon loading a previously made save with the same mods enabled, the mod will first not function properly (in this case: the Desert Eagle Addon will not scale mag and/or damage properly). the second time one attempts to load a save, the aforementioned behaviour occurs.

loading saves without scalable init will work flawlessly, loading saves with scalable init support will usually work, however, i have experienced this issue before, once, without the Deagle addon, which i suspect to be part of the issue(?). it could also be a problem with my machine(?).
Epic  [author] 6 Jan, 2024 @ 4:06pm
Hey M-Try - I haven't experienced that issue with my saves. Are you trying to load a save which had different mods enabled, or a save that was unmodded? To my knowledge, you cannot load unmodded saves with mods, or change the mods mid-save. If that doesn't resolve the problem, could you confirm the two following things:

1) That you are able to start a new game with addons where Scalable Init Support is disabled (such as by only enabling one addon map, with all other addons disabled), and confirm that you are able to load that save as expected?

2) That you are able to repeat the process above with the only difference being that Scalable Init Support is enabled this time when you start the new game with addons, and let me know if this produces the loading problem you're experiencing?

Hello, i dont know if this is the best place to put it but it seems like this addon breaks Loading save files. any playthroughs with this addon and other addons enabled seems to be impossible to load correctly, and will in fact revert back to a sort of "default save" equivalent to simply starting the game from the chapter one was in. this means you would have to play through the game in one go, or start over. is there any way to fix this?

Hi!
I have developed a new type of omnidirectional treadmill for VR. I'm very excited that the tracking is finally working and with our emulator, we can walk and run in basically every VR game.

The problem is just that the maximum in-game speed is slower than the maximum real-world speed. So in order to solve this problem, we want to build mods for the most popular games, to change the maximum in-game speed.
Please send me a message, If you are interested in developing a Half Life Alyx mod for this purpose.
You can find me on Discord under marvinfachtner or send a mail to marvin@xelerate-vr.com.

Thank you for this feedback, I will investigate the compatibility!

I found out why it wasn't working. I tested several options and found that together with the '' unpin ragdolls '' mod it just doesn't work. Thanks for the help, disabling the unpin ragdolls mod worked correctly, I left you a like! sorry for any trouble. If you can fix it to work with the '' unping ragdolls '' mod, it's very good! thanks

If you're unable to get this mod-loader working, make sure you start a "new game with addons" (the addon system does not let you load an old save), and have another mod enabled which depends on Scalable Init Support to confirm that it is working. I understand we speak different languages, but let me know if I can help you further and I'll do my best!

As far as I can tell, Scalable Init Support and the Gunman Contracts should be compatible (I don't see any conflicts). Note that Scalable Init Support is only a mod loader; to do something interesting you'll also want to subscribe to mods which make use of it. The Gunman Contracts should work fine with mods that use Scalable Init Support, but the specific map itself does not depend on this mod loader.

That said, if you're using something like the Glorious Gloves mod, note that on maps like the Gunman Contracts the gloves won't appear to be active. This is because certain maps intentionally don't equip the player with default Gravity Gloves to enhance interaction, and therefore the Glorious Gloves mod does not activate. In that specific case, you can likely still enable the gloves by equipping them in the console.

Hey epic is gunman contracts supported
Epic  [author] 22 Mar, 2023 @ 7:47pm
Hey Dragon skull - The most important piece of info is that Scalable Init Support can only enable multiple mods if those mods use Scalable Init Support (it will typically show as a dependency on each mods' workshop page; there are a few exceptions). With that understood, to start a game with multiple compatible mods, simply make sure the compatible mods/map you are interested in are all enabled inside HLA, including Scalable Init Support, and then start a new game with addons. Note that you cannot retroactively add mods to an existing save, it has to be from a new game with addons.

Let me know if this information helps!
Skullsteppa 22 Mar, 2023 @ 6:33pm
How do you enable multiple mods on modded maps?
Skorne Tet'Zu 9 Nov, 2022 @ 3:11pm
As to Wrist Pockets, I've got nothing important (a Grenade and Health Needle); but I I'm loving my pistol; almost fully upgraded... and I can finally hit something without emptying my magazine (Spray & Pray).

But GREAT Info to have; because I know I'll be replaying this game a few times!!!

Good Looking Out Mate!!!!
Epic  [author] 9 Nov, 2022 @ 2:50pm
Happy to help, enjoy the game!
(And I don't know if it will help, but if you don't mind losing some specific progress like what items are in your wrist pockets and what weapon upgrades you've chosen, you can start a "new game with addons" from specific chapters!)
Skorne Tet'Zu 9 Nov, 2022 @ 2:46pm
Noooooo!!!! Oh Well... this is my first play through, so I'm learning as I go; but, at least, I'll know for next time.

Thanx Mate :)

hi
Epic  [author] 9 Nov, 2022 @ 11:55am
Hey skrone_tetzu - Addons only work when you create a "new game with addons", and unfortunately I don't believe anyone has found a way to change which addons are active for an already-existing save (but if anyone does, please prove me wrong!). So let me know if it works when you enable those addons, and then select "new game with addons" with the mods you want already enabled?
Skorne Tet'Zu 9 Nov, 2022 @ 7:10am
FlashLIght Toggle Button MOd doesn't seem to be working for me. I Sub'd to Scalable Init... then I Sub'd to FlashLight Toggle; then loaded the game; went into Add-Ons... Turned on FlashLight Mod... then Turned on Scalable Init Mod (So Scalable Init was the Last Mod Activated); loaded my latest Save Game; hit the Left Hand (and tried Right Hand) Arm Grenade button (Note: While I had nothing in my hands): But the FlashLight never game on.

I then tried Turning Off the FlashLight, and Back on; so it was the last add-on turned on; but that didn't work either.

Note: I have no other Add-Ons... Just these two.

Any Ideas?

FYI: I'm Posting this exact Message under the Other Mod as well, in hopes the answer is somewhere :).

Advanced Thanx

In those screenshots, the issue I see is that there are different glove models being used. The gloves in your first screenshot are Alyx's default gloves. The gloves in your second screenshot are Gordon's gloves , which are a thicker model and were never made to work with the Gravity Gloves, and therefore the thickness of those gloves occludes the resin/ammo counter.

I am still unable to reproduce this issue. Are you sure you don't have any other mods enabled which change the glove models? If you disable all your other addons and start new addon game so that only Scalable Init Support is enabled, does the issue persist?

Feel free to add me on Steam if you want to have a one-on-one discussion on this.
wangmauler 23 Oct, 2021 @ 9:47am
I posted about this back in april, but it's still an issue. Enabling this mod causes Alyx's gloves to clip a bit downwards, making seeing the ammo and resin counts impossible. Can this be addressed? Very immersion breaking as you have to go into the "load game" section just to see ammo counts.

See my previous post for screenshots, several posts below this one.

Hey @RadPandaGamer36 - As of when I last looked into this, we have not yet identified a way to change which mods are active for a save. So for now, it is my understanding that you need to start a new game.

If you're looking for a specific part of a chapter to load into, however, you can list all the available maps using the console command "maps *", and then load into the map that you want by submitting the command "addon_play MAP_NAME_HERE". Note that this will load you in only with the addons presently enabled at the time you submit the command (for example, doing this from within the main menu after toggling the desired addons). I hope this helps, and I'll be sure to post here if I hear anything new on this topic!

Sorry I was just wondering if I needed to make a new save file for this mod to work, I'm still in the middle of my first play through and don't want to restart just to use this mod?

I really wanna use this. But I'm having an issue loading ANY scripts inside HLA. Placed correctly in the folder and everything, I just cannot get the engine to see any files. I added you on Friends, I would appreciate any direction!

This cool mod makes other cool mods work. So here's a big thank you!

I am unable to reproduce this issue on my end with only Scalable Init Support enabled and launching the third chapter of the campaign. If you would like to add me on Steam, we can figure this out together over instant messaging!
wangmauler 16 Apr, 2021 @ 12:34pm
I was just using Campaign+, but to test, I disabled that mod and uninstalled it, and just had this mod enabled, and the problem persists.
Epic  [author] 16 Apr, 2021 @ 11:40am
Hi! I don't believe this is an issue with Scalable Init Support, but rather any mods or maps which use Gordon's glove models and the gravity gloves at the same time. As I understand it, Gordon's gloves were not intended by Valve to "fit" with the gravity gloves and are chunkier than Alyx's gloves, so they clip through the gravity glove models. If you change to a different map which uses Alyx's glove models (such as a few chapters into the original campaign), does this resolve the issue?
wangmauler 16 Apr, 2021 @ 11:17am
For some reason, when I enable this mod and start a new game, Alyx's gloves are 'clipping' a bit, causing info to not show up/gets covered. Screenshot for example and comparison. First link is without this mod enabled, second with only this mod enabled (started new game):

I found out why it didnt work, if you already have a save file and you started it without the mod installd it wont work if you enable it later, you just have to make a new save
Epic  [author] 8 Mar, 2021 @ 11:04am
@Mr.Meme - As a test, does it work if you disable all other addons, just keeping Scalable Init Support and whichever mod(s) depend on it enabled? If that doesn't work, let me know and we can get to the bottom of this together. But if it does get things working, then sharing with me which mods conflicted would really help to make Scalable Init Support more universal!
EarthyTea 8 Mar, 2021 @ 6:26am
I tried disabling my maps but it didnt work for me
Epic  [author] 24 Feb, 2021 @ 11:11pm
I'm glad that you were able to get things working :) If you'd be willing to share what the list of other mods/maps were that presented a conflict, that information can be really valuable towards achieving greater inter-mod compatibility! Aside from that, enjoy your gameplay!
evoL 23 Feb, 2021 @ 8:04pm
Nevermind, I just disabled all the custom levels I had enabled. Works now!

Thank you for the suggestion, and for responding to me.
evoL 23 Feb, 2021 @ 2:40pm
Thank you for the quick response! And yes, I do have a few other mods activated as well, though I dont know how exactly they'd conflict.

The mods I'm trying to use Spawn Menu and Toggle Flashlight . Both of these list this mod as a dependency.

The other mods I'm using is the Classic HL2 Pistol replacer, Beta Grunt Reskin, and a couple wave-shooter maps.
Epic  [author] 23 Feb, 2021 @ 9:19am
@evoL - No stupid questions here :) To play with a mod which depends on Scalable Init Support, all you should have to do is ensure that Scalable Init Support (as well as whatever addons you want to play) is enabled, and then be sure to start your game with addons. I can confirm that Scalable Init Support is working on my end, trying it out with Glorious Gloves and Energetic Hands . There may be an addon conflict I am not aware of - Do you have any other mods enabled?
evoL 23 Feb, 2021 @ 2:35am
I may just be stupid, but addons requiring this mod as a dependency dont work.

wat do?
