i know all that but that doesnt explain what you meant by "it is not done the same way as other mods. It prevents end users from controlling what gets loaded into game and can break the game to easily". i guess you thought about using an installer or manual overwrites of files instead of using the standard workshop modding way then.

Have not looked at this in a long time but here goes... The tech progression is laid out in the file researchables.xml. When that is changed the game tech tree updates. You can edit the tree that way but as a mod is not very user friendly. For a workshop mod it is better to create a new file with just the changes. Which loads after researchables.xml and replaces it at run time. Use the example mod in the game files data folder to get yourself started with this. At the time I was editing it was not possible to overwrite researchables.xml. However this was all very early in game development and things might have changed.

hey lonewolf, add me so we can have a chat about the research tree modding, im was working on that too and would like to know in detail what you mean by modding the research tree is not done the same way as other mods and whats the alternative way you refused to use. need more insight in what you found out so far

I can mod the research tree. However it is not done the same way as other mods. So I am not releasing the code. It prevents end users from controlling what gets loaded into game and can break the game to easily. Will revisit the issue later in game development when there is a final tree design figured out.

The research tree can be be changed but it still produces progression problems. The catch is still the basic cost of two Research Capsules are the same. Yellow and Green. Whilst both Red and Blue come at start of game. We need a better order of production difficulty first. Then we can use that to measure technology tiers. The standard default difficulty is :
Red = Blue and Yellow = Green.
I suggest here it should be :
Red < Blue < Yellow < Green.
Having said that watch out for another mod coming soon (ish) that does just a research tree change.

by the way, wouldn't it be better to tweak the research recipe instead? But I'm not a modder and I don't know if this is possible, but it would be nice to balance the research tree precisely.

Anyway, thanks! I might give it a try when start with research feature! :)

ahaha, if the developers can't manage to balance some aspects of the game... Well, then the players will do that instead :D
