if you could attach this link to your workshop page it'd be great, lil tutorial on how to save guys with FCS in detail, got my main guy back after I couldnt recruit him back after sparring (game crashed so had to load up autosave)

Okay perfect, thanks! I also found out that they just hang out like normal citizens in the town you dismiss them in, I find it cool if I want a recruit but can't handle them at the moment. They just survive on their own.

Unfortunately the tools we get to mod with are pretty limited and i cant tell you how the engine handles dismissing with saving/loading or loading and unloading due to distance.

I hadn't tried dismissing them and then just leaving them as they go into Tech Hunter Shopping package by default and start walking away, so i guess Ruka has decided to become a Tech Hunter trader.

if you dont have any saves beforehand and you want Ruka back you can open the modding tools when launching the game, find Ruka and edit their dialogue package to have a recruit option.
use the new mod to recruit them then deactivate it after.

The problem is that I have two other characters out-of-party in the same city and they still work normally, they just hang around but I can still bring them back.

@KubedKiwi i think your issue is the same as eđgyŧoxickiđ, i just tried it and they are not talk-able if you load a save after dismissing them.

I guess the engine does not save something to do with the player on NPC's.

I fixed it by copy and pasting the platoon file from an earlier save into my current save.

The talk option doesn't seem to appear after loading into a game with a character already out of the party. I have them in the cage of shame and they're healed.

Ruka doesn't have dialogue after leaving her in Blackscratch and then coming back, It had worked previously and still does for other characters.

@HippoThese either a modded character or random generated character name, if you are sure they are not from a mod then if you can remember where they originally came from, faction, where you recruited them and i might be able to find the correct class.

@eđgyŧoxickiđ GG, no idea how you even managed to do that as it only calls FastJoin on the character and its probably a engine bug. Enjoy your new character i guess.

I cant talk to my character "takao" after dismissing. since its only him its not a problem, but its still a bug

I found the problem. It's actually a mod that prevents characters from sparring.
I don't know if other characters besides the starting ones are affected by this. It's the "Players Slavery" mod.

Just tested "Freedom Seekers" and they work in my game.
"Nothing at All" is not an unmodded game start, "Nobodies" is and they are the ones i do the tests on.

If you are using mods try changing the mod load order.
Later loaded mods override previous ones.

I don't have these type of mods. The "Freedom Seekers" and "Nothing at All" starts have this problem.

Are the characters added or modified by a mod/overhaul?
If they are not what start did you use.

If they are added by a mod and the author did not use a default player talking dialogue then they wont have a talk available. Pretty sure i got all the base game characters but if i missed one let me know.

After i dismissed them, there was just NO TALK option available for me ,and my click was YELLOW, SINCE I AM ALLIED WITH TECH HUNTER. IT WAS YELLOW AND NO TALKING OPTIONS

hey this mod makes it that the drug peddlers are hostile (but they don't attack i just have the red click icon when im on them which i didnt have before getting this mod), but the ones in cities chilling i have the sparring partners options dialogue with them, im just saying it, this bug doesnt bother me, i just never know if it might help someone, but otherwise the mod works very well

That would be because they are using one of the player dialogue packages for when npcs are recruited as the Hivers default dialogues and when you heal them its triggering the rejoining part.

You could open Sparring Partners and find the main dialogue package then just remove the On Heal section.

Causes instant recruitment of hivers you heal in Rogue Hivers expansion for some reason, dope mod though. I like it, just annoying that they're semi incompatible and I'm too stupid to figure out why.

Added a video to show how to use the mod. However some modded characters wont work as the mod makers don't use the vanilla player dialogues.

Make sure you are not allied with Tech Hunters, there's a relationship modifier option in the sparing menu.
Pretty sure that's what makes them run away.

Great mod. An immersive and balanced way to train. It's multi purpose and I use it to train almost every combat stat. Not OP at all and you feel like you are personally training your guys. 10/10 mod

I see. It has since worked perfectly, I believe I knocked my sparring partners out too quickly and thereby missed the rejoining event. Works great.:steamthumbsup:

They are hardcoded to Tech Hunters when dismissed and as far as the Ai is concerned they are hostile so anyone not set to passive will come running, best to set everyone involved in the sparring to passive and do it away from bases and harpoons.

They should be remembering the block settings unless something has changed

The way it should work is when they are dismissed and you select sparring it "hires" them like a merc for X time after the time is up if they can still talk then it fires the next event which makes them join the group.

If they are knocked out they don't get the event or some other mods might be interfering with it.
If you are running other mods you could try putting Sparring Partners lower in the mod order.

I'm not sure if I'm using this right. Whenever I dismiss a squad member in order to spar and select the sparring option (incorrectly spelled as "sparing") nothing happens until I click on the dismissed squad member with a red arrow, at which point they just aggro as if they were an enemy. I had mine set to block but they don't block, and the entire base rushes in to join the fight. They don't automatically rejoin either, I have to incapacitate/imprison them in order to trigger dialogue that allows them to rejoin.

its a simple cage to allow sparring partners that were knocked unconscious (missed their dialogue trigger) to be recruited back.
It was added and made free in case the player does not have the research or materials to construct a cage.

It's a cage? If you don't want to use a free cage then don't build it?

I advise saving first. You need to dismiss the characters first, done in the party menu bottom right (they will become tech hunters)
Then if they are unmodded or inherent the base dialogue packages then you can talk to them and begin sparing. i would also advise using weaker weapons so they don't hack limbs off.

I can't get this to work. Is there supposed to be a dialogue option or something "Spar with me" something along those lines? When I click on one of my characters, and then right click on another I see no option.

honestly this is one of the best sparring mods, best to pair with "Training Weapons Vendor" mod so u wouldn't accidentally lob off a limb or insta kill someone

That is an engine bug, when they swap factions any ranged attacker will keep them as their target until its manually cleared.

Best to keep the sparing away from turrets so they never lock onto your people.

I found the problem.. this specific character i had other talk options besides sparring so i was not able to use the cage of shame... thanks for helping me debug! npc was "seth of the white wolves" incase you care
