And the FRG (Federal Republic of Germany) aka BRD (Bundes Republik Deutchland) was formed out of the occupation zones of American, British and French. aka West Germany. West Germany joined NATO in 1955. While West Germany was supported by the United States, East Germany (GDR) was supported by the Soviet Union.
