It still works, although it still needs an update to fix the fact that everyone can recruit them without the dynasty legacy.

Made an updated version of the Historical version of his mod and also made it a separate one so it will not overwrite the default one and made it so you need warfare legacy 5 perk unlocked before you can get them https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2986838585

For anyone wondering how to fix the issue with everyone having access to the house guards, you need to edit the "...\1158310\2224834860\common\men_at_arms_types\PRICEless_house_guard.txt" file. For each unit you need to put:
can_recruit = {
exists = dynasty
dynasty = {
has_dynasty_perk = warfare_legacy_5
}
}
So only dynasties with the last warfare legacy perk unlocked will then unlock these men-at-arms.

bummer..this does not seem to work..ive tried modifying the files to place the 3 types of guards in different places but it doesnt seem to work the same way as wrote it with the honor guards in the original maa file.

Don't experience crashes with this mod but I have the house guards and arbiqueses from the very start of the game (and so does everyone else). This has been like this since the 1.5 updates.

Can confirm that this mod is currently broken. All rulers will have access to house guard regardless of having tier-five martial legacy. Many rulers seem to start a new game with some house guard already recruited.

I am able to create Man-At-Arms regiments for all three of these House Guard units, but when I raise my army only one of the House Guard units is raised and two remain unraised. Is this expected behaviour?

Weirdly enough, that didn't work either. Maybe what I'm downloading from the workshop isn't the updated version? Additionally, is the ugc_2224834860.mod file supposed to show up in my documents/paradox/mod folder after running the game, because it hasn't for me.

Either way, I don't really want to waste any more of your time on what seems to be an individual issue. If this happens to someone else hopefully they figure it out and post it on here haha.

hmm, if that's the case, what you can do is create your own mod via the launcher, label it appropriately, and just extract the contents of this mod (excluding the descriptor and thumbnail file) there. It won't be auto updated, but it's something at least.

I did all of that and its not working. I think the paradox launcher is the issue. I'm guessing its saving the old data which is overriding your new update. I'm just going to unsubscribe, delete the mod from my workshop folder and from the paradox mods folder, delete my paradox launcher folder, verify my game and try a clean install. I'll let you know if it works.

ok, found the culprit, it's imperative that you do a clean install. that means delete the file you download from the workshop as well as the ugc_2224834860.mod file in the documents/paradox/mods folder. The reason it didn't work on my end when i tested with the workshop version was due to it conflicting with the raw files and it's own .mod file. I removed the raw files and the workshop version works again.

hmm, it seems steam is not properly uploading the files. i tried subscribing to this mod instead of using the raw files, and true enough, it doesn't work. I'll try to find a way to remedy this issue.

So I ran a few tests and I'm still not getting the units to show up on 1.2.2. I tried unsubscribing to the mod, starting the game without it, then reinstalling the mod (w/o any other mods active) and I still didn't see the new units after creating brand new games for years 867 and 1066 on max renown.

I went through my steam workshop folder, manually deleted the mod folder, reinstalled it via steam and still couldn't get the troops to show up with a brand new game for years 867 and 1066 on max renown.

Is there additional requirements for the troops I'm not aware of? Like cultural research and what not? Sorry for bugging you.

Odd, just tested and it works fine on my end. Anyways, i reuploaded the file, see if that sorts the issue out.

Can confirm as of 1/8/2021 this is not working with the 1.2.2. patch. Ran the game with nothing but this mod and the units are not available after reaching max renown for the warfare tree.

Thanks for the awesome mod. Please update it soon, I hate going through my playthroughs without it. Thanks!

House guards in here have ridiculous stats and unit size. That's why they are kept to 1 unit size. Would be pretty broken otherwise. Unless you are min maxing with spamming military buildings in all your domains and keeping hold of more than 2 duchy capitals and rule through absolute might and fear, they are pretty balanced in this mod. The +4 maa cap is there to encourage the use of the new units (in essence making them "free"). Even adding +1 maa cap is pretty significant in vanilla since it can stack up to 18 with technology.

There are 2 main problems with house guard and this mod does little to address either of them.

1) Original House Guard couldn't be raised to greater than size 1 so they were a waste of a MAA slot
2) Original House Guard only had one type of unit

With this mod the problems are:

1) House Guard couldn't be raised to greater than size 1 so they were a waste of a MAA slot
2) House Guard only cover some of the unit types

So the mod is a solid improvement but only a small one, but because the improvement is so small it still isn't worth grabbing that unlock in most cases. The +4 MAA groups is nice but thats all the upgrade has going for it right now IMO.
